The harsh truth; the "Dracthyr" were a mistake for Warcraft

I’m not sure if the dracthyr were a mistake, but I do feel like Blizzard allowing permanent visage form for non-evokers is sort of Blizzard giving up on the race.

“Fine, whatever. Yeah you can be a flying elf.”

I agree delete DK. Thanks

Why do people forget that Drakkenoids and other dragons are too large for scale and would require everything to be resized just for them?

I like the Dracthyr because they’re not A) Human or B) Elf or C) Dwarf.
Three weeks into TWW and I already hate Dwarves.

You can throw mechagnomes in there as well.

i mean it was clear from day 1 when they were revealed people didn’t want to play as big ugly fetish dragons. everyone i showed the leak to the day before they were formally revealed said they were hideous or something along the lines of “this has to be fake, it looks so bad”

“Playable dragons” was a minefield with no clear best way to handle it. Actual dragons are very powerful, which already poses issues with scaling when you can play as a creature with power comparable to or a step below Void beings and Elemental Lords. Dragons only use one type of magic depending on their color, so it was better to make a race with the power of every dragonflight. Their real forms are quadrupedal beings and they generally don’t fight in visage form often; if they were, say, an all-race class that defaults to visage and only turns into a dragon as a flight form and during certain spells, then that mostly defeats the purpose of them being dragons at all.

Can we stop pretending that there was a massive demand for drakonid before dracthyr were introduced? Like, I genuinely have not seen widespread support for the former before the latter came along, almost as if it was in direct response. During BfA and SL, vulpera, sethrak, high elves, and Shadowlands races were the big name requests, then suddenly people wanted to huff copium and convince themselves that drakonid would be a super secret last-minute allied race, complain that they should’ve been made playable instead of dracthyr, or suggest them as a Bear Form for dracthyr druids.

It would be fine if drakonid were actually interesting as a race, but they’re not. They’re basically the dragons’ foot soldiers, and DF’s sporadic attempts to typify them as anything else didn’t really make them any more remarkable. Physically, they’re ill-fitting for any playable class other than warrior. They don’t even rule over their own society. Dracthyr, meanwhile, actually have a good backstory of being Deathwing’s lost experiments and part of his legacy, which is a pretty big deal in an expansion that dealt with all of the Dragon Aspects, both living and dead.

Dracthyr are something new, drakonid are just dragon-flavored orcs, but at least orcs have the distinction of being one of the most important races in the setting.

[Insert Billy Madison “Everyone is this room is now dumber” clip here]

It’s a good thing they won’t listen to your suggestions, because your insipid crusade toward convincing a video game developer to merge two races that were meant to be separate entities with different capabilities and ways of birth is doomed to fail. Dracthyr already exist. Evokers already exist. DF already happened not too long ago. The devs aren’t going to scrap their existing plans to expand the dracthyr’s class selection to instead retcon (I’m not even sure if that word is being used correctly) their backstory, merge them with dragons, and then explain why natural-born dragons are suddenly members of the Alliance and Horde, while leaving every other part of the game’s story intact. You can’t remove the part about them being science experiments because that’s a major part of who they are, including one of the first bosses of Aberrus being a trio of unstable prototypes for the race.

I wonder if there’s an emotion for when someone says or does something so idiotic that it fills you with both disbelief and genuine anger, because I’m feeling it right now.

I don’t think Dracthyr were an inherent mistake. they just came in at the wrong time.

The modern devs making them androgynous and their gameplay having poor draconic theme is the biggest crime of the Evoker Dracthyr.

If this race came into play earlier in WoWs history it would have had Body type 1 and body type 2 design you can laugh at lizard bewbs all you want but it is what makes argonians look so much better than the dragonborn in traditonal DnD

look at how Peak the argonians look. love this race and all their lore in Elder Scrolls, even to the lore excuse on why they have “mamaries”

They already didnt commit to the playable dragon fantasy when these cowards created the visage forms. IF you are going to create a monster race (which dragons are) then you commit to it, not give us some waifu scaley fanfic nonsense. The visage form should have never existed.

The mail armor makes sense because in Vanilla a lot of “dragon scale” armor was mail armor.

I do think the Dracthyr “dragon mage trope” could be successful but the problem is the devs didnt fully commit to the true diversity of dragonflight magic.

instead red is a dot, blue slows, green heals, earth CCs and Yellow does time wonky stuff.

I just wish they would chill out with the over reaction when you ask them if you can go for a ride on their backs. They get so bent out of shape. Do I flip out when someone asks me to go for a walk? Well, when playing WoW, yes. I do. That’s my me time!

Otherwise, no, almost never.

FWIW, and I know I’m in the minority, I think Blizzard actually did a good job with Dracthyr. It was incredibly risky, and I think it was a good risk to take.

They didn’t make a Draconoid, they made a slender lizard to fit the mage archetype.

This doesn’t mean I think Dracthyr are perfect and criticism is unfounded. Just that I appreciate they took a risk and executed a concept that actually felt different.

They aren’t going to retcon Dracthyr or change their entire model and gameplay to please you OP lmaooo

  1. They seem pretty popular, see them everywhere.
  2. That was last expac, we covered this 2 years ago.

I barely consider any of the Warcraft “dragons” to be actual dragons let alone a subrace based off of them. I’d say WoW’s dragons are closer to the magma wyrms from Elden Ring than any true dragon. They’re really stubby and too small, like a pit-bull drake.

Please show the court on the doll where the Dracthyr touched you.

Seriously though, it’s just another playable race, they weren’t a mistake, they aren’t a problem, they are just something you can choose to be bothered by or not. They don’t harm anyone, or anything, unless someone has Dracthyriphobia or something, I dunno.

I dislike almost every race in the game, but that doesn’t mean they are a mistake in any way, just not my personal preference.

Wrong term, it would be Tumblrphobia. In a time where the game had no real creative lead they let someone’s fan art project into the game and made them playable.
