The Goblin Way lore

While I know there is a thread about the new short story, from the first few posts I’ve seen… the lore isn’t actually mentioned so I figure I would just create a new thread…

  • Marin Noggenfogger is the leader of the Steamwheedle Cartel.
  • The current status of Trade Prince Steamwheedle, who worked with the Horde in the Second War, is unknown.
  • Marin schemed his way into the position, however this did not make him a Trade Prince.
** In contrast, Gazlowe was able to become one after becoming leader of the Bilgewater Cartel. I’m currently unclear how becoming a Trade Prince works.
  • Gazlowe wants to change the Goblin way. Marin is hesitant as his rivals would pounce on him changing ways and costing them money. The two agree to unite the Steamwheedle and Bilgewater cartels for this common cause.
  • Gallywix offered to pay to fix up Orgrimmar after the Siege, but Thrall went to Gazlowe instead.
  • Gazlowe was inspired to go Horde after Thrall treated him with respect and as an expert, a master of his craft.
  • Razdunk was said to have been blown up by Gallywix, suggesting that the Horde got the canon kill, as he was the one that sent us to deal with him.

Goblin tech becoming safer and more reliable could lead to a Tinker class of some sort. A lot easier to base a class around something that’s not going to blow up the user.

Crediting Gallywix with Razdunk’s ouster does make me think he might indeed be the main villain of the Undermine patch. Considering at least one of the major hints towards it is the Vents operating in Khaz-Algar admitting they’re from Undermine. Wouldn’t be surprised if Gally swooped in to take the Venture Company for himself.

Goody, I don’t think anyone(Horde or Alliance fans) will be majorly opposed to us having a raid that finally takes him out.

Thanks for making this thread, I like getting the info from stories without having to read them. Overdone subjective complaining doesn’t help with that.

You’re welcome.

Since when is the Goblin race known for showing respect?

You need to be appointed by the world shaman before didn’t you hear?

Great. I love this. Like he is the archetype the goblin alchemist hero was based on.

Is he even canon outside the RPG?

Pls don’t. I want to keep my funny explosive race. Can’t we just have stuff stayed when the current thing isn’t even broken?

So you are telling me we had the chance to make Orgrimmar full of gold and it got dismissed? Damm.

It is a small victory for BFA but a victory nontheless. Like Gallywix on your bad side? He will punish you

Gallywix is hillarious and deserves the best. We need to stop killing lore characters based on the fact they are not nice by mortal hero standards. So speak for yourself. I love him geezball.

He has been mentioned outside the RPG. Such as the novalisation of Beyond the Dark Portal and even chronicles vol 3. However unlike other RPG original characters like Tandrad and Frost King Malakk, he has yet to appear in game.

Read the story again. At least he acknowledged that Thrall was biased even tho Gallywix offered to repair Orgrimmar for much less costs. Gazlowe is the embodiement of nepotism.

He literally built Orgrimmar. That’s the opposite of “nepotism”.

This thread was literally created because your weird fixations made the original one you created pretty much unusable. Can you give it a rest?

The original one is still going with over 300 replies . I left it already you can feel free to add your opinion now.

So this is kind of setting up goblins to be gnomes, but green (for now).

Yep, and Calia wants to change the Forsaken way, Thrall wants to change the Orcish way, the Horde council wants to change the Horde way (Warchief bad, Peace council good).

Its a bitter pill to swallow but these changes are necessary when each one of those races was led by a villainous leader.

There’s the problem. Sylvanas turned into hot garbage, the character at some point around Legion (we can nitpick exactly what did it, but I think when she became warchief we hit the point of no return) but instead of giving us better versions of the “villainous leaders” they gave us boring, homogenized, safe versions that neatly embody modern western liberal egalitarian values. And before someone starts angrily typing a response to that, I don’t mean that as a criticism of those values in real life, but in a setting like WoW or really any fantasy setting, it makes for unspeakably dull characters.

The best, most memorable characters in this setting aren’t great or memorable for how nice they were. They were flawed, sometimes malicious, sometimes monstrous. It created a depth to a setting which is becoming increasingly shallow.

I do hope that Gallywix and the Venture Company will keep showing up as minor patch antagonists in the future - he’s such a fun character as a villain rather than as a playable faction leader, so I’d love to see him as a repeat small-time villain that the players can keep thwarting but is never worth the time to chase down and put a permanent end to.

I find it fascinating that Noggenfogger isn’t so much philosophically opposed to Gazlowe as he is genuinely confused: he doesn’t even understand what Gazlowe is saying, he can’t comprehend the ideas. The old “goblin way” is revealed to be just an element of culture that took root so long ago that most have forgotten how to think in new ways. Deeply ironic, as they’re inherently tinkerers of machines, but have lost the drive to tinker with ideas and thoughts.

This is the first genuinely new Goblin story progression in… ever. Love how Noggenfogger is like “wait… I can make more money in the long run if I just have some patience and don’t cut corners… this is wild!”

Never, never doubt the stubbornness of oldheads and “this is the way it’s always been done”.

raises hand

It’s bad enough when Blizz writes out any Horde leadership that isn’t incredibly milquetoast. The least they could do is let Gallywix enjoy some exploitative capitalism in peace instead of having us kill him off.

There was nothing wrong with that. Replacing all leaders with peace knicks nice guys and force their actual images to become soft and boring is like the worst thing Blizzard ever did. Nobody wants those spineless leaders. from green human Thrall to communisz comrade Gazlowe the Horde is now in a very bad place and I hate this so much. Why can’t everything stay the same? Don’t fix what is not broken.
