New player reaches cap with 220 ilvl + 5* (current season - 1), each difficulty tier only adds 5 ilvl.
He’s never far behind anyone, and gear difference isn’t staggering anymore, so a full clear of the latest raid with even Fresh 70s is a possibility.
All in all my feedback was constructive, I have acknowledged other points of views and have hoped to further an evolution towards a mutual collective of solutions
You’re right, I did not offer any solutions because I do not believe Blizzard should be listening to player written solutions. Blizzard should listen to how the players feel about something and think about why they feel that way. Then THEY create the solution. That’s the dynamic between players and developers we should strive for
I did, I just am making the read that it won’t play out that way. If 220 is the baseline and a whole tier worth of upgrades is only 225, it means players below that 225 will be deemed worthless at the start of the next tier. Even if the power difference isn’t great, people will gatekeep entirely on their own, and that’s not a gaming thing, it’s a human thing.
I lose patience easily when it becomes clear I’m being trolled. As stated, you came with a bad idea. People told you it was a bad idea, and your only response was “nah,”. If all you wanted to do was just complain about a problem, then why are you even bothering trying to pretend like you are making a counter argument? You don’t have one, and you didn’t even intend pretend like you did.
Million dollar question. Will you take an item level upgrade over breaking your four piece? Chances are, no. You won’t because until you get the new set, it will be a downgrade and you cannot get the set from heroic dungeons before you get it from the raid. That is a basic principle of Warcraft raiding, and if you are basing your argument off of fully upgraded gear from the new season, you’re forgetting that upgrades are very limited at the start of a season.
Further on that point, can say that oh, item level from trivial content in new season becomes better than best content of this season? Is irrelevant. I will be saving time by skipping straight into higher content, won’t need to farm heroic dungeons when farming Myhtic keys. Won’t need to farm LFR level content when jumping straight to heroic. Pure definition of saving time when you can use old gear and skip 2~3 levels of progression.
There’s no troll here and my responses have been more in depth than “nah”
You’re just being plain disingenuous at this point
I don’t believe linear progression is a bad idea. Look at other successful MMOS as my citation. If I offer a solution people pick apart the solution. If i offer a hub for people to talk about an issue in the game, that creates a discussion on the issue itself.
I think you’re just used to getting into arguments in the forums, maybe you enjoy it even. But you will not find that here
This was the stuff I hated about old WoW, tedious grinding for the sake of tedious grind. I sure do love looking for a party to do A so I might one day do B/C when all I want is D.
If you’re whole desire was to just to have a bad take, and then hope everyone just agreed with it and you aren’t and brush off the criticism for the bad take, then go for it.
I will continue to point out how it’s a terrible take, so people and Blizzard don’t look at this thread and think it’s a brilliant idea worth considering.
I hope blizzard sees what the both of us have to say. There are many players just like me and many players just like you. More importantly, there are many players like both of us leaving.
Nothing would stop them from jumping into latest level content if they so desired, and that’s the point.
And yes, raids having lockouts when M+ does not is the reason they became less… prestigious… over time.
And when progression is stuck or done, or when players feel like it, they could then return to previous tier to farm their BiS, increasing longevity of content and player participation.
So your back pedaling to say that I didn’t save time by skipping several layers of progression with old gear? I don’t know if you are aware of how the upgrade system works, but between weekly capped crests and flight stones, I saved more than just a few days, the lowest upgrade paths don’t matter to people going from Mythic one season into the next. They save time skipping straight ahead to Big upgrades rather than slave away for a pittance, as that would be truly disrespecting their time.
Which means its not linear, assuming a fresh capped character could jump instantly to the final raid then, since the ilvl would barely matter. Am I understanding that right?
Mythic+ does pose a lot of issues. I feel a complete structural reframe would have to be put in place to mitigate these issues.
It would be crucial to not diminish or take anything away from mythic+ players in this process as well. The great IO push is still a part of the game even if its not one I personally enjoy
Yes! I don’t think there’s a problem with catch up such as drastically inflated drops from prior tiers (perhaps 3-4x as many drops) so players can get gear relatively fast
But the complete invalidation and DISRESPECTING players time by doing a reset every patch is not only bad for a player retention but game health in general.
You can actually see the enormous swings in sub numbers on blizzard’s recently released graphs that have only really been happening since the “play the patch, not the expansion” design has taken root
I actually think there are some ways to mitigate these issues
Make the keystone x achievements and benchmarks awarded at a cumulative rating each season that resets each expansion as not every patch.
For example - Season 1 KSH is awarded at let’s say 2k Season 2 KSH is awarded at 4k and Season 3 6k. This should also be set up so players can still earn KSH at any point DURING that expansion
Since we are no longer repeating dungeons every season blizzard should just leave all dungeons available just award the prior season’s ilvl gear.
For those who prefer catch up in the open world that’s perfectly fine just make it a bit slower to encourage M+ or raid participation (again with drastically inflated # of drops)
At the end of the day, linear gearing can work just not for Warcraft anymore. It works in Final Fantasy xiv, however it is directly linear you can skip steps, you can take a long break and dungeon gear will be better than the raid gear before long, as no raid gear lives longer than its patch, it serves as the stepping stone for the next so you won’t need to farm the new dungeon each time unless playing catch-up and don’t want to buy or make crafted.
