I don’t have any missing characters, but some of them are squished.
Also, since I haven’t seen him in a while, I will guess that it’s Fluffybuns.
My main, also Siersha, is gone. Ive been playing her in game all week. Still not here.

All of my characters are on the forum character list (including a few trial characters that I’ve barely even played), but I’ve always found it strange that when I go to the front page of the forums and scroll down to where it says “YOUR REALMS” (Right above “ALL WOW CLASSIC REALMS” section), it shows Blackrock / Dalaran / Zul’jin, the 3 realms that I have only one of each low level characters, and do not even actively play, nor have ever posted on the forums on these 3 characters.
I’ve wondered if it’s always been wonky for others as well?
As for your characters missing, there’s a sticky on top saying that there’s a forum maintenance tomorrow (Monday, August 17, starting at 6:00 a.m. PDT / 9:00 a.m. EDT) so hopefully your issue gets fixed.

Indeed, let’s hope, I can only post in the US, all my EU characters (as an only eu player) are gone on the forums since yesterday.

They’re doing a bunch of realm connections on Thursday maybe after that this will be fixed.
You know, the rule is “whoever smelt it, dealt it”. Therefore, it wasn’t the forums that farted. You owe us all a heartfelt and sincere “excuse me”, Mr. Mechagnome Mage.
And perhaps, you need to find a good engineer to check out that exhaust port of yours while you’re at it!

the forum did what now??
Same here, only my old characters are here. I can’t find my toons on character lists, or the app nothing is fixing it.
it’s a mixed bag as to which of my characters are on the forum select list:
- only one character out of seven from an unsubscribed, inactive account is on the list
- only three out of my ten allied race characters show up
i’ve been lucky that this character isn’t affected as she just got back TL3
It has been almost a week since my characters went missing 
I only have 5 of my 21 characters showing up. I usually post in the forums on my main that I have been playing for 10 years. Hopefully they will return to me soon. But for now I’ll continue to post on my lovely Kul’Tiran.

The other day I logged in and had zero characters to choose from. I must’ve relogged at least 5 times and eventually it worked. So there’s that, I’d say keep at it, since it’s a bug it’s probably more or less random.
