So, I was looking over the different timelines, hoping to see my favorite ending play out. Unfortunately, it never does.
I think it’s because this threat wasn’t a major one like Arthas or N’zoth, but we forgot one of the OTHER global threats that popped up in BFA: King Mechagon and his global mechanization device. We were literally hours away from a doomsday scenario in Operation: Mechagon, one which could be triggered with the push of a switch, and a timeline which could have very easily played out.
Mecharoth is what I’d call it, and it would be King Mechagon’s vision of a perfect Azeroth, clean of flesh. All mobs would be mechanical variations inspired by Mechagon Island, zones would be trashed with new gnomish facilities, even the dragonflights would have become mechanical steamscale dragons. By this point we’d be able to see all kinds of crazy combos: The Mecha-Scourge, the Robo-Primalists, and possibly even the introduction of Mecha’thuun into the actual game. Alongside the dystopian design, in place of Black Empire banners and insignias would be giant screens everywhere, where King Mechagon is constantly barking orders and enforcing total control over the planet.
Just a thought, there are lots of good ideas in BFA that simply need explored in inconsequential playgrounds like this.
