The Failure of the Stress Test Demonstrates We Need More Beta Invites

The plane that crashed first had my invite in it

No man, you dont understand. Blizzard is the only company in the world that stress tests their products. No other company or game in history has done this! Blizzard is lying to us, guys! They just made a stress testing server period and invited thousands of people to log in for two hours so they could… Uhhhh…

Well, I’m sure they had a reason. But it wasnt for stress testing. That stuff is fake!

LOL, I’m sorry bro! If it makes you feel any better I’m still fighting the world boss. I got a Druid and Warrior made, I just can’t get on to play them yet…

id bet they got plenty of data on their login and queue system to make sure it’s working properly. you are just mad because you didn’t get to run around and kill boars for an hour. these tests are not about you.

Last week I had some sheep try to convince me that we had never landed on the Sun. The stuff these people come up with. Unbelievable.

Seriously?

Obviously we landed on the dark side!

you know, where it’s shady.

Then how would we take its temperature? If we know how hot it is we obviously had to put a thermometer in it.

Some people can’t see what’s right in front of them.

I’m glad there are some reasonable people around here. Some days I swear I’m surrounded by idiots. Must be all the vaccines they take.

Dang. I missed my opportunity by not becoming an annoying streamer and getting an invite.

Doing stress testing ON A CLOSED BETA is the EXACT OPPOSITE of winging it with a shoestring budget! As is recreating the entire classic experience with the modern engine in the first place! They hired dozens of developers specifically for this project and have done an amazing job at delivering so far.

I can’t help but feel enraged by this so if you’re trolling you sure got me, but as a software developer this is one of the most breathtakingly ignorant takes I’ve ever read about testing.

I mean… its not as though they have 15 years of making/testing wow servers at all… If they havent figured out how to do it correctly by now, im not sure that there is much hope for them in 3 months…

Sure its a stress test. but given that they are 15 years into wow now, you would think they would have perhaps been better prepared/knew what to expect i mean… this was a bit pathetic.

We did a lvl 1 raid on Hogger, it was tough be we got him down.
No further testing needed.

XD

Test: Determine whether or not we can handle high stress servers without layering.
Result: Success. Answer provided - No.
Outcome: Continue work on Layering.

I’d argue that the reaction displayed on the forums demonstrates why they don’t need more beta invites.

I note I’m not a computer tech or software developer but I seem to recall Ion or someone on the team saying in an interview that it was a difficult job to recreate Classic and meld it with the current game systems. Creating something new using the types of game tech that exists today is apparently far more easily managed than taking Classic WoW, which was played more than a decade ago on entirely different technology and fitting it into today’s systems.

Let’s just assume they are doing it for a reason and leave it at that. This all starts to get very nitpicky.

Oh they know exactly how to do it. It’s just the community threatened to come and burn down Blizzard HQ if they used any of the tools they developed to handle this exact problem.

So they’ve compromised and are trying to cobble together a new tool that answers most of the complaints the community had while still ensuring a smooth launch on release day and hopefully not resulting in a massive amount of dead servers down the road from making too many again like they did originally.

You’re right launch would have one server available for 20,000+ people hammering away at it. All at the exact same time. This was a test, a stress test at that.

They want to know how many people can hammer the server before it breaks. The amount of whining over a stress test for a game that is releasing in 3 months is outrageous. This generation of gamers is a bunch of damn babies.
