That is the reason I stopped tanking
It doesnât matter if a tank had and lost or never had aggro to begin with on a boss, they have a taunt button, they need to use it, it straight up forces the boss to change target to whoever taunted them and this tank did not do that.
This is a bigger problem than there are not enough tanks. It is what is required from each roll overall in M+ as the âbasicâ level.
Tank-Learn what mobs to pull to get 100% mobs needed, learn pathing to lead the group through the optimal route.
Dps-kill stuff tank pulls, try and stay out of bad.
Healer-Keep people from dying.
Now are there DPS/Healers that know what packs to pull and what combination of mobs to get 100% yes of course. The âbasicâ knowledge of what is needed per role is vastly skewed where in the tank needs the majority of itâŚjust to function at acceptable levels.
If you didnât tank in S1 well it just got exponentially harder to do S2 because the community expects the tank to have this committed to memory by then.
And it gets even harder when the seasonal changes the route, like with prideful you wanted to hit pride at certain points, tomented removed that yet added mobs to kill for buffs, mobs that might be off the route in S1.
This is factually incorrect. Season 1 had Prideful which needed each 20% to line up perfectly. Routing needed to be on-point.
Season 2 enabled groups to be more open with routing. Percentages didnât really matter as long as you got to 100.
Jump to season 4, almost all of them are extremely linear and require almost no routing.
The tank shortage only exists in pugs because generally tanks donât want to tank for pugs.
This is not entirely true and only really makes a difference when you start doing keys above 15. As long as your iLVL is high enough for the content you can pull one pack at a time and just go from boss to boss and you will be fine.
Even back in BFA when the obelisk was the affix you could literally go into an obelisk and out at the same one and still clear a run just fine within time.
Itâs a problem that stems from streamers and MDI type runs where players think you have to know some funky route that requires you to pull big or go sideways to collect shrouded enemies or something. itâs just not true and that in part is why new tanks get DPS who complain and donât realise why itâs possible for some people to do these type of runs.
I ran a JY 17 the other day in a pug group, the tank didnât do anything out of the ordinary, they didnât pull big or go out of their way to get the shrouded enemies, the top DPS in the run was only 17K, one was down as low as 12K and didnât collect any of the bots along the way, I donât think they have done JY before, yet we still went +3 on the timer.
Hopefully after Dragonflight, Dracthyr will get the option to be more classes than Evoker. Then at least you can be a dragon and tank, and youâll have a few different classes to choose from for tanking.
Tanks arenât endangered, they are actually very hard to kill. Itâs like, their whole thing!
I joke but really there is no tank shortage, never has been. We actually have too many tanks for raid and pvp.
The only place tanks are hard to find is pugs and random group content.
For sure yee. One can only hope.
As if. Tanks have always been in short supply because everyone always wants to see the big numbers. The job is stressful, thankless, and generally avoided by most because of it.
It has nothing to do with the lesser amount of tank specs compared to dps.
It has everything to do with how much pressure is put on tanks. A single mistake from a tank will almost always wipe a group and cause it to fall apart.
They need to make tank mistakes less punishing, and have an avenue for tanks to learn, like tuning LFR to only require 1 tank, but still queue 2 - thus allowing some leeway if a tank dies, or if theyâre learning. Likewise, something I continue to suggest - remove the timer on M+2-9. This gives an avenue for M+ tanks to learn pulls without stress that M0 just doesnât offer, and people are too impatient with the timer currently to allow.
Exaggerate much ? Iâve blown AD and GoaK together with fat fingers, no one wiped and we certainly didnât fall apart.
Tanks make mistakes all the time, we are human after all. Itâs only major mistakes that lead to wipes. There is actually a lot of room for errors because of group utility and healerâs defensives. Especially in lower keys where most learning happens.
Thank âtank shortageâ only exists in pugs because tanks generally do not like tanking for pugs because of how the community treats them. Especially new tanks.
A lot of things that are hard to kill are endangered. Being hard to kill is pretty much why theyâre in that situation.
Accidentally using a CD isnât a mistake. - Missing a mechanic that causes you or the group to take too much damage for the healer to heal is a mistake.
Misusing a defensive CD is absolutely a mistake when it would have been needed in a later pull.
Of course it is.
Which is not a tank specific thing.
Why did you cut off the remainder of the message? IT literally covers that.
If your issue makes you or the group take more damage than the healer can heal, thatâs a mistake.
Accidentally blowing your defensive when it doesnât end up needed before itâs ready again isnât a mistake.
Just typing this sentence should have made you realize itâs wrong lol
