The Dracthyr Spread their Wings to New Classes

Where are the Druids? They have the green flight and a strong tie to the Emerald Dream but can’t be Druids? Seriously?

Yup…

Or paladins, despite the Tyrs guard headquarters in the dragon isles… And the fact that they’re a martial race

I’m just glad I dont currently run ascendance as ele so I never have to look at this model. It was a low bar to clear and yet somehow blizz dug a hole and tunneled beneath the existing models.

I’d still like to see a way to always be in demon form and have more customization for it. Would be pretty sweet.

hmmmm dragon pally, maybe lol hmmmm,

@blizzard

Will scarab lords be getting anything to celebrate this special occasion?

So, remember that time when wrathion stabbed n’zoth with the blade of the black empire? was awesome how he was able to do that in drag… oh wait, he shifted into visage before he actually stabbed n’zoth, didn’t he… (its one example i can think of off the top of my head but im sure theres more)

also… yes, dracthyr aren’t true dragons… but

-From Wowpedia
“The dracthyr are an ancient race of humanoid dragonkin. They have the ability to wield the magic of all five primary dragonflights as evokers, and, like true dragons, shapeshift between a draconic form and a humanoid visage. The dracthyr were created in the ancient past at Aberrus by the black Dragon Aspect Neltharion, who combined the essence of dragons with the adaptability of the mortal races to create a race of ideal soldiers.”

dracthyr combine dragon powers with the adaptability of the mortal races to create ideal soldiers… why would highly adaptable, ideal soldiers designed to be equal parts dragon and mortal only fight like a dragon? them not being true dragons means they are MORE LIKELY to use a melee weapon than a true dragon. and since we know and have video of at least one true dragon using a melee weapon (as stated above, the video of wrathion stabbing n’zoth), we know true dragons can and will use melee in visage form if they deem it necessary. thus its extremely logical for a dracthyr to embrace the “ideal soldier” aspect of their nature and adapt to any threat by expanding upon their combat techniques with melee weapons…

So remember that one time where Dracthyr aren’t dragons and purposely call mortals “soft skins?”

Yeah, y’all have fun looking ridiculous. I still hate it.

why does what they call mortals matter? like, at all? why does mortals having soft skin while dracthyr having scaled skin matter? does scales prevent them from using swords? if you think that its because they wouldn’t want to be without scales in their visage form to fight, you know they can have scales in their visage form, and they’d be wearing armor anyway… right? why does the term they use matter? (you’re whole “they call them soft skins” is like trying to explain why humans calling orcs “green skins” (which they did from time to time) would prevent them from being shaman… would you argue against humans getting shaman because they called orcs green?
also, yes, i remember they’re not dragons… as i explained, they’re dragon MORTAL hybrids who are designed to fight like a dragon AND A MORTAL. which is all the more reason they would fight like a mortal…

i mean, feel free to hate it… but just know the reason you stated for hating it is kinda invalid.

Since Dracthyr and their broken racials are coming to other classes can Blizzard do something to update the absolute garbage Zandalrai racials, thanks.

I love that druid armor set that is sick as I’m a druid main. Also for Shaman’s getting new ascendance forms I’m happy for them as well they look sick.

Because the entire point is that it should always work like Worgen and how Evoker works now: you run into battle, you’re in the form that you truly are for the race you actually are.

No self respecting Dracthyr should be running into battle without their ten foot tall scale covered self.

Y’all chose Dracthyr. Y’all should be Dracthyr. Not a pouty lipped human or Belf.

I hate the decision they made and that’s simply how I feel.

Done and out.

first of all, worgen are cursed. they are magically compelled to become worgen in combat because the worgen form is fueled by fury and bloodlust (think hulk when bruce banner gets angry). there could be a case for some classes/specs to not transform (like a mage might be able to remain in a peaceful mindset while casting and thus not trigger the effect) but a class like warrior (whos resource is rage) or spec like bear druid (who use the same resource) wouldn’t be able to avoid it. and since wow isn’t going to make the form changing a class/spec by class/spec basis, its easier to have all worgen unleash their bloodlust when entering combat.

dracthyr are under no such compulsion. they choose when to enter and exit their visage form at will, the same as any dragon would (gaining that ability because they have the essence of true dragons in them). its fully within the bounds of the lore for them to do so.
also, dracthyr right now don’t automatically turn into their draconic form when entering combat. you can cast a few spells while still in your visage form (like living flame as an example). its only when they draw more upon their dragon magic that they transform. (i remember running a test early on to see how far i could make it in a normal lfd dungeon without entering my dragon form and i made it about half way through before it got difficult enough to require more powerful spells) a class that doesnt use dragon magic directly would, in fact, not actually need to transform at all in combat as the rules of the class are now. honestly, i think people are just wanting confirmation that that will be how it works.
as for no “self respecting dracthyr would ever run into battle without their ten foot tall scale covered self”… who made you the definitive law on all dracthyr mentality? theres a full questline about some of the dracthyr learning about themselves and what they want as visage forms, how to feel about having a visage form, and everything else it entails (the personal tabard questline). its quite obvious that having such a form will become an important part of their identity (hence the previously stated questline to explore it), and its very likely that many would choose to stay in said form full time (at least for many years) except when absolutely needed. if full blooded dragons are willing to do so, then dragonkin who have the blood of full blooded dragons would also consider doing it.

“Y’all chose Dracthyr. Y’all should be Dracthyr. Not a pouty lipped human or Belf.” uh, yeah… visage form still can have scales and horns… they’re still dracthyr. just because they turn humanoid doesnt make them belf/human. duh.

Anyone know if there are plans to allow Dracthyr to show their hard earned armor/transmogs while in dragonform combat??

Amen to this, haha. Off topic, but something to completely circle back to at some point in the future, hopefully.

You can bug the system right now to always be in demon form, which is fine. Would -love- customizations though.

both of those activate a dracthyr’s dragon form… that wouldn’t change with them getting new classes

all the classes dracthyr are going to be able to play come the 20th anniversary as both abilities are racials, not tied to class.

PTR for the update is up and Dracthyr of other classes do have access to Glide, completely unmodified. We’ll see if this stays based on testing feedback over the next ~2 months. :frowning:

The new ones released to drachtyr, it’s their racial.

Blizzard patch notes say they have added new animations to it so the new classes don’t have to enter drachtyr form to use it but they won’t give Evokers access too this new animation and we must enter drachtyr form to use it.
