Ok well yes, so I will take it further and just be blunt:

Gentarn is one of many very talented and creative people I’ve had the pleasure of peripherally knowing from WrA whom I would love to see any sort of content from.

It’s too long a list to name them all without my poor memory doing any one of them the disservice of omitting. But he consistently puts so much thought and imagination into how he could fix WoW (and often mind-bogglingly well) that I would be interested in anything he put out.

I’d argue it’s a good thing shaman aren’t part of the cosmic forces because as of Shadowlands the cosmic forces are all stupid and dumb and bad. Therefore shaman are the only magic class left that isn’t ruined.

Do you really look at what Shadowlands did to death and say “yes I want to see Zereth Elementus”? I don’t.

Honestly, Gentarn’s idea about how to get those Human like models for the Forsaken would actually work pretty well in-line for how my Undead Warrior’s story has been going, since she’s ICLy been slowly regenerating since she got cursed to ‘never ever die’ during a pre-Shadowlands story arc I did with her and my guildmates on the Horde side.

A development like what Gentarn would be beyond delightful for her. She lost her husband and baby when she was risen to Undeath, something that she’s been trying to find a way to regain in some …small way at least, for a long time now since the end of Shadowlands.

So far, as through the passage of time-skip years, she’ll have spent the three years basically defending families from the likes of mad-cultists and bandits and so forth, doing her darnedest to make sure no one ever suffers the kind of dreadful loss she did.

I know that they were trying to imply that this would happen in-game or like overtime like some sort of Ishgardian Rebuilding thing like another successful game did.

But we both, and everyone else, knows this is exactly what they meant. There’s not a single doubt in my mind that they hadn’t even remotely considered actually doing it and instead are blaming the players that would get angry that this happened “outside of screen time” (these players don’t exist by the way).

Like, did people get mad that they didn’t watch Stormwind, Orgrimmar, or even Stromgarde get built in real time? No? Then what makes these two different?

Also, the Alliance already got Gilneas back by the way. The ONLY reasons they haven’t resettled is because of the constant pressure of the Forsaken which would just make it hard to resettle it immediately, and Calia hinted that “maybe we can stop doing that actually”. So the fact that they haven’t achieved that in five years is mind numbing to me.

I mean honestly though what would a resettlement of Gilneas mean/do?

I’m not trying to be a Blizz advocate here but-and I mean big but here- I can’t see populating Gilneas to be worth any reasonable amount of time outside of a cutscene or something similar to how the Horde got the cleaning of Lordaeron.

Because it def wouldn’t be a city hub. Kul Tiras and other Alliance cities are already barren wastes as it is. You’d just fill it up with standard vendor NPCs and empty homes that players would rarely use. Would you make it a daily zone? But then of what? Regular themed quests of chores of like building the area up or keeping the Horde from sabotaging efforts?

I don’t know man. At least the idea of Gilneas being under siege still translates into reusable content in the form of a battleground. It fit as a starting zone and part of the Forsaken leveling experience. But restoring it literally just—deletes content. And that’s just lame to me.

It could easily be a city hub for the Alliance if we have a Light themed expansion that takes place in the northern part of Eastern Kingdoms. And maybe the whole zone has part of it being attacked with Light zealots that you have to deal with in WQs? While other parts have WQs for other things and there is over all a whole story for the zone with the Gilneans rebuilding and what not…

Maybe there are leftover Scourge that took up residence in Gilneas because it was abandoned and that is part of the whole storyline? There are a bunch of options.

I mean this highlights the issue. The things you have to do to make it work doesn’t seem to have that big of a payoff as far as longevity of content or things to do.

I get that there’s narrative significance to the characters and all, it’s a hotspot for Alliance/Forsaken players, and it’s a conflict both sides want to see some sort of resolution—

But if I were designing the game it just makes far more sense to put more resources to doing new things, new zones, game mechanics, battlegrounds whatever than doing logistical gymnastics to making an old area relevant again and back to the old ways of faction exclusive content.

Give folks the Bronze dragon character to switch phases for those who are really obsessed with stomping through a rebuilt Gilneas again and call it a day.

I guarantee you most players would rather have revamped Gilneas, and the rest of northern Eastern Kingdoms like Quel’thalas, for a Light expansion rather than going to some “Light realm” the way we did Shadowlands.

Some cosmic realm, like Shadowlands, has no interest to me and many players even if it is new. I personally like Azeroth, I care about what’s happening on the planet, I don’t want go somewhere else. I would rather they revamp the zones we have for a new expansion and tell a story of what’s happening. But that’s just me.

And no throwing a bronze dragon there doesn’t solve the issue, because that isn’t canon to the story. Gilneas would still be in ruins in the lore.

this same logic could just go for literally every single city hub the moment it’s no longer an “expansion city” in this game entirely, not just alliance

in which case then maybe this game just sucks woops guess we should stop making new cities because it’ll just eventually stopped getting used

also they could just make a new BG to replace the old one, like most games do.

Furthermore, just because Stormwind is barren on Wyrmrest Accord it’s not even remotely the same as it would be on Moon Guard or literally any other Alliance-populated server. Should we just ignore an updated Undercity or any future Horde cities because it’d be empty on Moon Guard?

in all srsness i wish blizz would put something in the game that after you complete a zone’s story, you are placed into a phase that resolved the zone’s conflict. Basically remove hostile mobs and things like that, doesn’t necessarily have to rebuild it completely but just removing hostiles would do wonders. It would create soft content for non-RPers to do things in old zones, expand the lore master achievement with more titles and all that while also providing roleplayers with places to RP which aren’t covered in a bajillion hostiles.

They do have that system in already, or kind of at least. It’s the Chromie thing. They have it for Theramore and the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, where you can go to old instances of the zone before Something Happened.

Adjusting it so it removes hostile mobs would be an extra step but I don’t see why they wouldn’t. Unfortunately, like most nice things, it’s convincing the hierarchy of the game developers to prove why they should do something like this and why it wouldn’t be a waste of time.

I mean, certainly have Orgrimmar and Stormwind City be the ‘standard hub city’, but the other capitals?

Have festivals in these cities instead of the ‘major’ ones. Have world events happen in these ‘secondary’ capitals. Use them as playgrounds for story progression.

Gilneans returning to their city and finding it occupied by Feral Worgen who are haunted by echoes of their former lives, beasts who were men, trying to be men once again in broken, simple ways. the Kaldorei returning to Val’sharah with some haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard questions for the Wild Gods as to why they didn’t even bother to offer token support during the Azerite Wars. Stuff like that would be amazing for set-pieces to build up the game outside of the usual end-of-the-world-go-kill-things gameplay.

Stuff like that could be put in for players to explore during content droughts, pursuing these quest-lines that don’t directly increase their power, or change the world the way the Cataclysm Expansion did, but could slightly alter small portions of the world, either increasing or decreasing NPC populations and being used to introduce new NPCs/Hero Characters that could be springboarded into future content and story-arcs.
