I mean, it makes sense from a business perspective for a subscription based game.

Fill content gaps with releases from different versions. Stagger releases from different versions so when people are sick of version A they’ll go try new release in version B for awhile while they’re working on new stuff for version A.

Also likely why the timeline has a level 60 release for SoD and then some months into TWW a new SoD level 60 additional content release.

it’s getting spicy

In addressing the ‘keyboard warriors’, I argue that the core issue lies with game designers. It’s my belief that the decision to phase content based on levels is fundamentally flawed. A key part of the ‘classic’ experience is the challenge of reaching level 60, a milestone many newcomers fail to achieve, thereby enhancing the sense of accomplishment for those who do. Introducing challenges makes the game more rewarding, an aspect that should never have been compromised. Unfortunately, it seems inevitable that game designers, driven by current trends, deviate from the principles of good design. This is evident even among those who have been with Blizzard since its early days; their original design choices have been overshadowed.

Bringing back veterans like Metzen is a move fraught with uncertainty, reminiscent of Spielberg’s controversial alterations to ‘ET’. The essence of ‘classic WoW’, despite its criticisms, lies in its challenging and inconvenient aspects, which ironically contribute to its greatness. The demand for convenience, while understandable, may lead Blizzard to dilute this essence into something unremarkable.

The failure to experiment with content has led to a disillusionment among players seeking the thrill of exploring new worlds/spaces for the first time. Peoples desire to want a new MMO to chase that initial Wow feeling is better suited for a new MMO from Blizzard. Despite having the resources, Blizzard opted for safety, resulting in minor adjustments to raids rather than meaningful innovation. This approach, while popular, falls short of recapturing the essence of a truly engaging MMO experience.

Xp buff was a great change! Thanks blizz!

Zarkasm 100% thinks its still an accomplishment and “challenging” to hit 60. 100%

The most amusing thing about all of this is the purists coming in to scream and whine about the changes, and then tell the people who are happy with them that they’re the ones coping and seething

Imagine how different things could be if y’all would drop your “us vs them” mentality. I have a hard time wanting to sympathize with your desire for a fresh era server when you’re so antagonistic to people who are happy about coming changes to a version of the game that wasn’t made for you

I agree with the other guy.

You could have 10 people in the same area in classic trying to do a quest and it suddenly becomes practically impossible because oh you gotta harvest 5 plants and only 3 spawn at a time and they’re on a 10min respawn timer.

Stop pretending that the majority of people didn’t grind exp in dungeons.

You Classic Andys really are Trumpers, good lord.

When you say “retail” point to a singular defining point in wow where before this it’s pre-retail and after is retail. I have heard a lot of things being described as retail and I just want to know where that begins.

They can’t because to do that would be admitting that Vanilla was Retail and nothing like what Classic Era is.

If they didn’t do this then people would rush 60 beat the raids and then complain the server is dead because there’s nothing to do for the next 4 months.

Easily the worst thing that has developed since classic was released. To many Classic WoW players apparently have their entire ego tied to playing classic for some reason.

Oddly the Dragonflight forums aren’t plagued with the same “us vs them” attitude between game versions. very telling of the classic player based that posts here.

What’s always fun about this is when they point out things that are “retail” but literally happened in vanilla.

embracing it as a part of the game

Lol. People really do just make up fantasies about the past. Not being a dick, I’ve done it/do it too. Heck, I was on the classic was the best era train
until SOD anyways.

it was amazing, in 2005, 2006. In 2024, man, it’s something else. However, nobody embraced the leveling, even back then lol. It was always the game starts at 60, get to 60, that’s when the fun begins. Feeling rewarded for getting the gold to buy a horse? Look, I felt rewarded for buying my car, my house, my dream tv, a horse in a game though, that’s really chasing a feel there.

I’ll go with it though. Rewarding to get that mount back in the day. This isn’t back in the day, it’s a season that will end, it’s all gone when that happens, and for the people that can’t play quite so much or what to do other things, why not.

There is also the fact that there is just a pure classic server that has everything you could want far as classic goes. This should be crazy, whacky, anything and everything is out the window. May not like everything but it’s weird to ask for crazy and different and proceed to not be happy because it’s not the same.

This a Seasonal game for all WOW players to enjoy. Stop trying to segregate the fan base.

BTW i find your takes to be ludicrous. Classic wasn’t anything like my memory of Vanilla unless you consider never ending Bots, RMT, constant ads for boosting services and GDKP to be faithful to Vanilla.

The fact that you’re going to die on the hill fighting against QoL features in light of the above crap from the cesspool that was Classic is laughable.

I think the one that amuses me most is RDF - something that the original developers are on record saying they wanted in at launch but the tech wasn’t there yet, yet the purists will swear up and down that its inclusion was the “beginning of the end”

And then when you point out that the final patch of Wrath maintained the highest recorded player count in the game’s history through a year long content drought, likely in part thanks to RDF, they’ll cling to “oh but it wasn’t GAINING subs so you’re wrong!” like
yeah, with no new content for an entire year besides a subpar loot piñata one boss raid, it should have LOST players-

You need to relax with that ‘purist’ terminology. No purist wanted a Wrath system removed from Wrath.

I still have the Rob Pardo interview saved, it’s dusty but I still have it.

TBF what hasn’t been the beginning of the end to these trolls?

Think they mean Era people. However we both know that there are those who claim to be a purist who were against RDF. We were both there for those debacles.
