The Customisation Justifications to Lore

exactly this. when it comes to elves. everything has a reason.

Blockquote you know, that bit about the highborne of feralas just made me feel a bit better about that blue-black skin that night elf female is getting.
the feralas highborne were feeding off of a demon for thousands of years, it’d only make sense for there to be some change to their skin tones from it.

This is an example where I can understand blizzard trying to give freedom of head RP to players. But still most skins/ eyes in game have reasons.

Your right, for some reason I thought they fed off demons as well but it was quite a while ago but like you said fel tends to cause mutations although it would be nice to get an explanation.

It is pretty early in development and honestly there are a lot of other questions id like to be addressed first so maybe they’ll address it down the line? Wishful thinking maybe

well, the fel energies have been gone from silvermoon since the restoration of the sunwell at least. the events of the burning crusade happened around 5 years before legion. so it’d still have to be a bit of an “they were always there” argument, but it’s better than nothing for sure.

I wasn’t responding directly to you, you angsty incel.

This isn’t far from the truth. We actually SEE the other troll tribes hanging out in the Zandalari city (and interact with them in some quests and WQs). It makes complete sense that if the Zandalari join us, members of those other troll tribes could choose to lay down their arms, follow the Zandalar/Darkspear example, and join us too.

Also this entire argument is dumb and gross, especially considering all of the other skin/fur tones added to the game over the years without a peep and all of the WAY bigger retcons, handwaves, and other things we’ve had to endure. This isn’t even like the legitimate High Elf or Blue Eye issue.

If you’re against this then… :grimacing:

Except that quest line points to Tyrande being the only one who should have the new look currently. Even if we say the player character also did the ritual, how can the player character have the look and not the power?

“Sometime after the Great Sundering, most of the surviving Highborne were exiled from Kalimdor and settled in the [eastern continent, founding the kingdom of Quel’Thalas. They became known as high elves. During this time, they created the Sunwell, and switched to a diurnal waking cycle. Their purple skin eventually faded to a pale peach color, like that of some humans. Some sources imply this was a near-instantaneous transformation that occurred during the Sunwell’s creation.”

They lost their purple color and had skin like some Humans.

Some Humans also have different colors. As do some Elves. The lore has expanded.

No where does it say “no Elf could have a darker skin”.

Keyword - imply.

There is much open about the situation. Nothing set in stone that says “no Blood Elves could be dark skinned”.

All these limitations are head canon. Even your source explains it to you.

Lore is what Blizzard decides it is.

WoW isn’t a closed canon, like The Lord of the Rings or The Wheel of Time or The Dark Tower. It’s more like an ongoing series.

And to be blunt, there’s a whole lot of not-so-veiled racism in the “concerns” about the new options for blood elves.

I may not expect story to happen, but with the potential black and asian humans, I would love to see story. It’s kind of dull to see just the run-of-the-mill humans coming out of Stormwind and Boralus, all kind of the same so to speak.

I would love to see a cool human empire that might’ve ended up in Pandaria, or one that’s in Stranglethorn Vale!

Heck, the Tanari Humans are a thing in Uldum, they have a story.

You quoted the pale peach color yet seemed to have ignored it entirely.

You forgot the entire sentence.

Implying it was instant rather than a gradual transformation. Not that the transformation happened to some and not others.
You’re cherry picking.

I am all for lore evolving. What I am sick of seeing is Blizzard evolving the story by doing what is essentially time skips with no recognition to already established lore. Nothing in the lore has developed to change the appearance of blood elves. All people are asking for is to develop something that offers more to the story. It is obvious you do not care about the fine details of the games story and thats fine. But it is not unreasonable to ask for maybe a single quest, maybe two that offers an explanation as to why the canonically pink fair skinned elves are suddenly not.
Put it in an official comic for all I care. Just add depth to the story like they used to.

For humans assuming it was a limitation of the game is perfectly fine and can easily fall into existing lore. For Blood Elves it isn’t as easy since we know their skin changed with the creation of the sunwell and them becoming diurnal.

It changed to that as well. I assume is the only thing Blizz would say. Unless they started breeding with humans at first, causing this.

A part of the reason why this thread was made, was so this not-so-veiled racism could be fought off with their own ‘reasoning’, and turn it into a benefit for diversity instead of a hindrance on the community. As mentioned with various examples I’ve included on multiple occasions throughout this thread.
