Sunfire elves. enough said. They got a tan from the sunwell
I’m personally happy for it, but if people really want some kind of justification for the new options, I’m not bothered by that either.
“ThEy ArE DeScRiBed As FaIR sKiNnED”
Yeah well you know how the night elves were dark skinned and then Dath’remar was born with AUBURN HAIR WITH STREAKS OF GOLD.
There’s your lore excuse. There’s precedent for elves being born different. And now we can all enjoy the game.
Again, I mentioned that too – in the thread. Please read, if you know how.
Are the people such as yourself arguing even reading the full thread, or do you just leap at the opportunity to argue for arguments sake?
Edit: Not to mention, that comment is in relation to hair - not skin; which is why I included it within the Blonde haired Night elf section of the thread.
Finally, a level headed thread. The amount of tw@ts merely shouting “NO!” is such an eyeroll; but this is the first mature thread I’ve seen addressing the these changes, and how to resolve the prime argument strong points that those disagreeing generally use (Lore, not being mentioned, out of the blue etc). Having the ideals met with the suggestions made sounds great.
I’d personally like to see more prime main characters with these characteristics though (Aside from Wrathion), and I feel this would be a great way to do it.
Having a strong leader among this group (The one who may have sent word of warning of Kael’Thas + allegiences) of intellectual bad-@$$es would be a fantastic opportunity to seize; one that could also open up many venues for cosplayers in the Warcraft Community that enjoy the High Elves.
I think you’re right, but made me
If so few like the lore and so few have cleared Junkyard 26, does that mean…I’m cool, too?
You, uhh…don’t have to answer that…
Agreed! This is a good discussion. Thank you for starting it, Aussie, and for those participating.
Sadly, Lore has never been a thing in World of Warcraft. It was broken all the way back in Vanilla with the Dark Portal making an appearance in the Blasted Lands despite having been destroyed.
And then in BC, when Illidan was around …somehow. Despite Arthas clearly killing him at the foot of the Frozen Throne. He should have been a part of the Scourge or something, if he were to have been brought back.
And then you have Cataclysm, in which Deathwing was around …again. And in “Azeroth” …somehow. He was killed in Draenor during the Second War, on the island we know as Ashran.
And in Cataclysm again, in which the Worgen starting cinematic states that Gilneas was a staunch supporter of the Alliance during the Second War when in actuality, Genn Greymane wanted nothing to do with the Alliance and believed that Gilneas could defeat the Horde single-handedly if it ever threatened Gilneas.
And then you have Legion, in which Suramar is a populated and orderly city, despite being in ruins in Warcraft III with its people having long since gone extinct. Not to mention that there isn’t really supposed to be anything there, yet we have several unique zones full of life and culture and history. Like wtf?
And then you have the Human Kingdom of Azeroth being referred to as Stormwind, with the world referred to as Azeroth instead. That would be like renaming Earth as The United States of America, and renaming the United States of America as Washington D.C. Oh, and did you know that the planet was alive this whole time, and possessed a sophisticated conscious? Holy cliche Anime shiznickel.
Where are the banners and tabards of the seven Human Kingdoms and the several Orc clans, with the proper colors to boot?
Cross Island is… missing?
Where is the runestone of Caer Darrow? Is it the meeting stone? There is one there, right? And what is Scholomance? Like, where did it even come from? Let’s …try not to get too much into geography, shall we.
Y’know. I read threads like this and think to myself just how many people would, in a heartbeat, make an abomination of a character in WoW in the same vein as Skyrim or DS3.
Just let people have fun, yo.
Lore only matters when it means we can spite a race we don’t like getting something new.
The new customization options are PLAUSIBLE and really don’t need lore justification as skin pigmentation can vary from one individual to another .
Were not talking about purple Blood elves here. Dark elves are just regular elves with more skin pigmentation. Just like a dark blue Night Elf has more skin pigmentation than a light blue Night Elf.
They actually do explain that.
They explained that too.
He defeated him, not killed him.
As for the rest, there’s multiple lore-indications and justifications which I could explain in depth and detail, but I don’t want to derail the purpose and prime subject of this thread; now obviously the game has a few minor retcons but they always (Or at least most the time) provide justifying lore / backstory to it.
Lore IS a thing, and people WILL still care about it.
If you’re talking about me, then you clearly didn’t read the thread. I’m not spiting a race, I’m showing embrace for it; and using it to uplift it for more depth. To literally quote myself:
On top of which, like someone else in the thread advised:
It could also lead to more of those with the given characteristics being introduced to the fold of lore, and hence allow more cosplay options to the diverse fans of World of Warcraft.
I never accused you of that.
I’m just saying, i have seen a lot of people using lore to gatekeep a customization option.
Alright, wasn’t too sure; but yeah I absolutely agree I’ve seen a lot of people using it as a gatekeep. Although I feel its a valid reason I do believe it can be easily addressed. It’s one of the reasons I made this thread.
We can fight those objecting with their prime argument with, well - Their prime argument. “Fight Fire with Fire!” I feel it’s an amusing & fitting way to fight against those objecting.
Blizzards numbers say they will make money by adding features like this. Lore wise it is wrong. Money wise they want people to buy the expansion and play 1 month or pay for race changes.
They could make more money, if they play their cards right - And make it by lore-wise standards, correct (Suggestions seen in original post of thread).
It would lead to other opportunities too, which they may use for inspiration towards other races too.
you can’t really dismiss wildhammer either. the different troll tribes are every bit as egregious the dark skin for belf, too.
they went a very stupid route for new customization options, because there’s very clearly not many people that actually care about the story left in blizzard. people these days just don’t take things seriously enough. if they won’t take it seriously, i shouldn’t either, and if i can’t take it seriously, i shouldn’t be paying to play it.
Think you might need to loosen the tinfoil hat there, bud. Blizz has said for a few expansions now they’ve been wanting to do more player choice when it comes to appearance.
How is a skin pigmentation wrong for the lore ?
Are you also complaining about dark green skin color for orcs that they’re adding ?
If you paid attention to the new skins colors that other races are getting. Those are just new shades of the same colors.
It can be wrong for the reasons of how they’re cannonically described. For instance if they stated “We’re doing Redskinned, green eyed Draenie” that wouldn’t sit too well with those familiar with lore either; because they’d know that no way in Fel would Velen allow the Eredar to join their ranks.
But, alas I have provided solutions and others have branched ideas from those solutions to make them even better and more opportunistic for the players and community.
They are canonically described as people that have same skin as humans. Therefore their skin can get darker.
If Blood elves were light blue, nobody would complain about dark blue blood elves.
