The BFA World Zone Ability Delay Debacle - 5 Months, 400 Posts And Counting: No Resolution

For sure!

My post was more informational targeted at everyone/anyone who passes through, not directly at you/any one individual.

It sounds like you’re doing all the right things from our limited position on this of the proverbial fence.

It is always hard to know the range of the problem, and obviously at a corporate level I am sure they roll things up based upon number of people with an issue. All I can say is while my sample size is clearly not millions, I know a few hundred people who still play, and 10-20% have this issue, so I don’t consider that a fringe problem. Who knows.

I also think you notice it more if you (a) play a lot (b) have a class with long casts and © have played the game for a long time and have zero ability delay embedded in your brain and can really feel the difference

Part of perceiving a problem is actually having a problem. Part of it is also being in a position to observe it, which not everybody does equally

Did you ask all those people how often they encounter it ? If is it only once a month then do you still consider that significant ?

In any case, I recommend you watch that last Q and A, if you think they are just sweeping this under the carpet so to speak but I don’t think they are.

Yes. The most common occurrence is always existing in BFA world zones, as it is for me, and sporadically, like one of every 5 to 10 casts

I definitely do not think it’s being swept under the rug, but timeframes are everything. As mentioned above, it took 6 months to have it discussed seriously in a Q&A. Having played the game since vanilla, that signals to me there won’t be a fix, if at all, for at least 2-3 more months. This is 40% of the entire xpac’s length. Maybe it’s just me, but that seems unacceptable

To me, it is instructive to always shape our expectations around what product/service vendors do in the context of real life rather than just accepting it as ok. The real life equivalent is one out of every 10 times I turn on the faucet, it floods our bathroom floor. My wife comes in and says “jesus honey, we need to fix this problem - it is gamebreaking for our life”. I wait 6 months, do nothing, and then have a discussion with her and say “I am aware of the problem and will look into it” with no definite timeline to fixing it. How satisfying is that mitigation?

I feel like you are all framing this pace and level of advancement against the problem as something to celebrate or be proud of while I see it as a significant decline in service and responsiveness for a Company I have followed since Lost Viking in 1993. I am very high on Blizzard and a fanboy, but when people talk about them milking BFA for a low-service, low-content cashgrab, it takes a lot to make me grumpy or agree with them but incidents like this don’t help

It’s not a normal lag issue and it’s not consistent with everyone. That’s why they’re having a difficult time finding the culprit and fixing it. There was a similar issue in Mists and it took them over half the xpac to find it and fix it.

Basically this. Just keep up with in game reports and hopefully there will be a fix for it soon. Hey, if you’re lucky, something in the next patch may miraculously fix it. That’s happened with inconsistent bugs before too. :slightly_smiling_face:

So you are saying all those people you asked say this is always happening ?

I have only encountered this when I am in a zone with a world boss and that doesn’t happen very often now so I think they fixed that issue and the odd time during assaults.

That is definitely what I am saying. It is not a problem for everybody or clear like 50%+ of people, or they would have stamped that out. It is an issue for a non-superficial and big minority of players and it is very real. I think of issues in three categories based upon a non-scientific sampling of people I know (a) is it fringe - like <1 to 5% of players (b) a sizeable minority like 5-20% or © a huge number of players, like 20%+

C level problems usually get picked up and fixed by Blizzard automatically. A level problems suck, but if I feel like very, very few people have them I realize that is just how it goes sometimes and it sucks. B level problems like this are the most frustrating because a combination of talking to people I know and looking at forums confirms, for me, that this is definitely not a fringe problem.

On the other hand, and this is again not directed at you, it is very annoying just to have people say “well I don’t have the problem”. I get it - obviously you all don’t because if everybody did Blizzard would have fixed it. But please don’t pretend this is happening to like 5 subscribers in the whole world. You need to have more faith in the fact that I did my research, as much as possible in not being an employee of Blizzard, and many, many people still have this as a persistent problem

The issue is the randomness of it. Not everyone experiences it. Which, again, is why it’s difficult to pinpoint.

We can do it gang - I feel your energy. If we don’t solve this problem, then the terrorists have already won

LOL hopefully they’ll be able to find it soon or at least the patch will fix it. These things are frustrating and take so much time to pinpoint.

It’s like finding a dollhouse sized needle in a haystack the size of thirty football fields.

I actually think its war mode doing this.

Oh and as for that particular
poster
her
attitude
towards OCE players is long established.

Who would hate an entire group of people. Some of my most favorite posters on this forum are from the oceanic region and some of my least favorite are also but well that’s how things work.

Not sure how this relates to the thread though.

And it could very well be warmode because I never have that on.

I hope so

Problem still persists and is worse than it’s ever been because of people logging in for 8.1.5. The thread in Technical Support was unstickied for some reason, but this was not resolved in any fashion.

Still hoping for something
anything. No fixes. Thank you - not fixed in 8.1.5

Unfortunately it is going to be a struggle for the rest of the expansion. BFA is not that optimized even though improvements did come in patch 8.1 an patch 8.1.5.

All of this should have been addressed in beta of BFA but it seems they are making small improvements as the expansion goes on.

But right now that isn’t good enough for a lot of players IMO.

The problem is definitely not strictly FPS-related, but obviously involves huge network latency issues. Unfortunately, I cannot run the usual diagnostic software (traceroute being most significant) from Windows and get a complete result. I am trying to see where, exactly, the lag is from Austin, TX, USa to the IP addresses of the Oceanic server(s) for Caelestrasz and Nagrand (12.129.254.156 and 12.129.254.172) – it might function as one server with different IP addresses for each realm – how many physical machines comprise the virtual server behind each address is unknown to me)

I can unserstand why Pinging these address is not allowed – frequent DDoS attacks on Blizzard are the norm, not the exception, in recent years. There are some diagnostic functions built into WoW, but htey are mostly useless as far as use in conjunction with automated network connection configurate tools goes.

Even with the recent discount on moving toons to a realm server that is closer in network connection terms is better than nothing, it is still more than I (and most other players who were affected by the reloaction of the the Oceanic servers to somewhere in AUS/NZ) are likely to spend if 10+ toons are involved.

To make matters worse, WoW has been changed so as to increase perceived lag for NA players on realms within the US from what I have been reading. that issue got a lot of disccusion in these forums beginning with Legion and continues with BFA.

My experience in BFA is that players who expect to make progress with their main toons are all but forced to use War Mode (another name for suicidal behavior in PvP situations in BFA if the player experiences high latency for any reason).

Given the rapid improvements in Internet performance at at prices home users who are gamers can typically afford from ISPs in their area, it seems much of the slowdown is probably due to crufty software and far from optimal network connections between the main servers where Blizzard HQ is and the distributed servers that are closer to large geographical concentrations of players.

I do not play enough interactive online games with other players around the world to have any idea as to how good or bad FPS games can be when the players in one team or event are spread accross parts of the the globe where excellent Internet connections are common and affordable at the user level. that makes me wonder if it is the lon-haul links that could stand some serious upgrades.

Just wondering,

Does anybody know if there has been any movement / improvement on this issue? I took a 6 week break hoping it would get better

Ok - it is finally fixed for me. Thanks Blizzard

i dont care if this is a necro to an old thread, this is STILL an issue. all of my demon hunter abilities have major input lag when im out in BFA zones. but the moment i go into a dungeon or anywhere else, the issue magically vanishes. WTF
