Yeah, but Ka’ra was ejected out into space, and she was viewed as a purple star orbiting Draenor. A for effort Irenaus, but they are not the same thing.
In a way the Shadowmoon orcs worshiped Ka’ra can be compaired to the Arathi worshipping this crystal.
That would be cool! Wait, we reoriginated N’Zoth, blasting him with Light. What if it’s re-originated N’Zoth? I’m partly joking but I’m also dead serious
What’s the over-under on the Light/Void clash still being the canonical beginning of the universe? I think that’s more or less a relic of the pre-Chronicle cosmology in which it was implied that Void and Light were the only two fundamental forces. But now we know all six are on equal footing in terms of irreducibility, so I question the validity of that origin story. I at least doubt it will hold going forward, even if it technically remains canon as of right now.
That’s actually a fascinating thought, that’s far more interesting than just a rehash of the lost Naaru narrative we’ve seen so many times.
Somewhat rude and uncalled for without clarification. Why is that? If old lore doesn’t mesh with newer lore, changes have to be made. That’s in the nature of things. It was likely inevitable since Chronicle 1.
Honestly I always regarded the “Light/Void Clash” as being a shameless ripoff of TES’s Anu/Padomay clash, so I’m perfectly fine with them coming up with something more original.
The possibility I’d be most happy with, tbh, is “we don’t know.”
It’s fine to not know! Your lore doesn’t have to stretch all the way back to the big bang! The Universe’s existence can be a given!
Because Blizzard created a definitive guide to the game’s lore and almost immediately went about contradicting and dismantling it.
It reminds me of how utterly unstable this game’s lore is, and how frustrating it can be to be invested in something that can so easily be changed.
That’s what I liked about the pre-Chronicles explanation.
A few possible explanations were given, but nothing definite.
Just, “We don’t know how, but the universe exists and so do the Titans.”
I don’t have much an opinion on the Light-splosion origin Chronicles invented.
My dissatisfaction with the change is purely from the retconning of a definitive work of lore.
I do not think glow crystal is a Naaru thing, a Light shard thing or any kind of thing like that.
I see glow crystal and I see all the machinery the Titans shoved inside Azeroth. I see a massive titan relic meant to force the transformation of Azeroth into a Titan.
And I think that is what Sargeras was trying to stab.
I think by the end of Legion, when the Titans started vaccuming up the Sargeras cloud, he made a choice. If he could not have Azeroth, he could at least deny her to the Titans. Either his stabbification would kill the world soul or break the conversion crystal to keep her from the Pantheon, who were trying to transform Azeroth into the Last Titan, the final and most powerful member of their race who would join them and bring Order to the galax- uhm, to the cosmos.
Azeroth is obviously the prettiest girl at the cosmic party, and all the cosmic forces want to date her. But the Titans got there, tried to manipulate her into being like them, and then left her on read while they farted around waiting for Saggybutt to kill their mortal forms. They installed kill switches in her, installations to monitor her, all the nine yards. Do you really think they’d just leave a Light shard sitting next to her heart without locking that in a Titan facility-prison too, for any old humans to find?
I say nay. I say this is a Titan conversion thing.
In a vacuum, I’d say this is a pretty decent hypothesis. But I have to ask, because I kind of feel like I’m on crazy pills here, but…
Why is it that Blizzard, Thrall, Anduin, everyone, is pretending that we don’t know what the sword was pointed at, and that we don’t know who “the voice” is? The sword was aimed at Azeroth herself to kill her, and the voice is Azeroth. Why is it that Blizzard and every character has forgotten that BfA even happened?
The sword was an attempt to just kill Azeroth and eliminate the threat forever, that’s been known for three expansions. Why is there suddenly uncertainty over his intentions?
So Thrall and Andy never heard Azeroth’s voice, and quite frankly? There is a long history of mysterious voices in your head actually being the Old Gods/Voidy Stuff. Especially voices and visions coming from deep under the earth. I think it’s only natural to be suspicious of such things.
Keep in mind, neither Thrall not Anduin went to the Chamber. All the Heart of Azeroth stuff was us, Magni, some Titan servants, and the Earthen Ring. Thrall was off-world for most of it, Anduin was dealing with Sylvanas being all on her taurenpoop, and at most they learned about Azeroth talking to crystal dwarf second or third hand.
I addressed that in my theory.
I think Saggybutt was absolutely hoping to kill Azeroth, but failing that, denying her to the Titans would work just as well.
I just don’t think Sargeras had any intention to claim Azeroth in any way. The last time he saw a world soul, he cleaved the entire planet in half without a second thought. His intention from the start was to rock up to Azeroth, and destroy it outright. He’s not going to aim for a titan conversion relic or recruit Azeroth: he was aiming for a killing blow and nothing else.
Soon after the War of the Ancients, Sargeras had a vision: the Well of Eternity imploded once again, but this time, it dragged him down to the very core of Azeroth. He was there for only an instant, but in that moment, he saw Azeroth’s slumbering world-soul–and in that moment, the world-soul opened one eye and gazed at the Dark Titan. He was enraptured.
Sargeras is obsessed with possessing our world soul, to a sort of creepy stalker degree. He wanted to make her into the centerpiece of his dark pantheon.
See funny thing is he was around azeroth as a spooky cloud for a good while. So there is a good chance he was examining all the systems the pantheon put in place and working out how to get past all them without killing her or some other equally undesirable outcome for him.
Tyr’s one job was to protect the location of the Chamber of the Heart. I wonder if he’ll spill the beans now that he’s awake. I want him to spill Titan secrets like a broken dam.
Things like this is why I think glow crystal is a titan thing. He knew where to stab, because he’s stabbing a construct made by his brethren. It’s why he didn’t stab the Chamber of the Heart (cuz like, we don’t see a sword shoved inside it when we visit) and only got near it.
I’m not speculating on what the crystal is I am telling everyone what it is, lol.
It’s a Spark of Consciousness. Not every planet that forms contains a World Soul, and that’s because not every planet was hit with a Spark of Consciousness. They were either thrown out by an intelligent creator, like Old Gods, or they are the results of an explosion between Light and Void at the dawn of the Universe. This crystal is what formed a World Soul.
