The Arathi Tonal Disconnect

Rome was also the only empire in our history that was that accepting, the british and spanish empires were not accepting at all and are likely closer to what the arathi empire is like

And probably worth noting, yes Rome wasn’t ubiquitously accepting or kind to other cultures. Moreso they frequently adopted or embraced some cultures.

So while we have examples of them persecuting or warring, that doesn’t necessarily make them not overall rather accepting.

But you see, Light = church, and church bad, so therefore Light bad.

I wouldn’t say because it is a church but because Blizzard has given several indications that all the greater magic players have their own motivations and negatives for us.

Like Xe’ra wasn’t a member of a church but we see her more controlling intent in Legion and possibly alternate Draenor. Meanwhile you have the Titans more clearly having their own designs on Azeroth. As do the Void Lords. The Jailer and Denathrius try to conquer her too. Elementals have their Lords and Primals. Botani were life gone amuck.

There’s not really a group immune to magical abuse or self obsession.

The Scarlet Crusade was evil and demon controled but still able to use the Light for healing and offense as was Odyn and his Val’kyr. Like all other forces the Light is characterised by their wielders.

I’d say they were able to use the Light up to a point. Traditionally, all evil light-wielders were pawns of darker forces and eventually embraced them. It is more of a gradual departure from the Light.
Legion onward is a different story.

Given that point included Whitemane’s Mass Resurrection ability, I don’t see a meaningful limitation.

They were able to use every ability the light had, like they were never en mass departing from the light

Sorry, I meant point as in a point of time- not ability. Through their misdeeds, they eventually cut themselves off completely. In Northrend, you see the end result with the Raven Shadow Priests.

Honestly I think it’d be funny if the Arathi Empire and Scarlet Crusade wind up clashing like;

well no cause the raven priests aren’t the end all, most of the scarlets are still light users even then

We stop them before the ruse is revealed. If Mal’Ganis had his way there would be probably more Shadow Priests and even Paladins. Temptation takes time.

Then, you’ve answered you’re own question, its not the light fading its a literal demon tempting them

Its tempting them away from the Light.

Yea but thats still not the light fading cause of their actions. that was never happaning

I think it is the same thing though. Their zealotry brought their own ruin. The fact that they embrace magic that is the antithesis of the Light is a sure sign the Light has left them. Arthas even says the Light “abandoned” him as recently as the Radiant Echoes event. He was also a pawn of Mal’Ganis.

What else would a demon tempt from someone so zealous and sure of their beliefs? It’s mockery. The Light leaving a group so headstrong and “devout” is what makes their fall from grace poetic.

If the Light solely rewarded zeal then their convictions would have been enough to protect them. Instead, there was a fault in their belief system that a demon like Mal’Ganis could exploit.

The light abandons arthas because he loses faith that what he is doing is right, All one needs is conviction and faith to use the light, it does not have a moral sense cause its just energy

But if it was solely faith-based then why are the Scarlets so corruptible? Their deep conviction would be something that protects them not damns them.

Have to remember that the Scarlets themselves don’t consider themselves to be damned. They HONESTLY and truely believe what they’re doing is righteous.

People mix their meta knowledge with what the characters in game know/think far too often.

That is my point though. They believe they are right, so sure of their convictions. And what happens to them? They fall to corruption every time. If the Light rewards zealotry, why do the Scarlets never succeed?
