Its either people being memers, or drama between the “top” players in trade chat.
I’ve also seen a 3 hour long argument between two people in there because someone misused “there.”
It can get pretty wild. Not sure I’ve seen a large amount of politics or racism in between all of the WTS though.
Just turn off the offending chat channels. 90% of the time it is trade.
Or you can grow a pair and stop being so offended by random anonymous internet teenagers.
See constant trolling and one upmenship on who can be the most outrageous can be a pill, but just seeing sells non-stop is pretty morose.
I keep trade and general chat turned off across all my toons. Have done for years.
WoW has since become a peaceful pastime.
These are absolutely the kind of people who would burn books. They’ve already started erasing “problematic” old movies and TV shows. It’s book burning for the 21st century, how progressive!
Trade Chat has never been about trade. Yeah its politics and race now. That’s what triggers people the most and many people live to trigger others. Was it any better a year ago when trolls were trying to be edgy crapping on women/female gamers? Or the year before that when it was nothing but spam of the word anal and various achievements or abilities? Or when it was nonstop jokes about Invincible or Thunderfury? Or the nonstop 420 weed smokin talk by 14 year olds who think anyone really cares at all if they smoke dope?
As for other games, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Play Call of Duty or another first person shooter with open comms. Every other transmit is a 12 year old white boy dropping the N word with a hard R while their voice cracks in a way that would be adorable if they weren’t trying to sound like a bigot. Play some of the non-Blizzard MOBAs where they take a break from the racism long enough to tell you what a pile of excrement you are and what they will do to your mother because you aren’t an e-sports level player.
Not to sound like a jerk, but newsflash: many people on the internet are jerks. They’re jerks on social media. They’re jerks in games. They’re jerks on forums. They’re jerks in the comments section of every website. Its the consequence of anonymity and hiding behind a keyboard - people get brave fast. It isn’t just WoW’s Trade Chat.

This has nothing to do with politics. I know people don’t like Trump and all, and with good reason in many cases. However, blaming him for people acting like jerks in trade chat is ridiculous. People being jerks online has existed since the internet was invented. It existed when Obama was President. It’ll exist when the next person is President too.
To tell you the truth, it’s better for you to hear it than hear nothing in chat. The realm I’m on is so quite you can hear the air blow by.

Welcome to earth 2020, lol.
Went down to my mothers house a couple days ago just to visit for a minute.
They immediately start talking politics.
I told them when Im around someone who I like to hang with but we disagree on politics I usually default to ‘I hate all politicians, theyre all crooks’, lol.
Just keeps arguments from happening for the most part.
Im voting Trump, dont get me wrong…but the man isnt a saint and we all know it. Neither are the Clintons. Obamas or the Bush clan.
I told them I’ll toss out there that I know Trump aint a saint…the man has cheated on his wif…and thats as far as it got before the room exploded 
Apparently they werent actually LISTENING to the point (big surprise), that WHEN IM TALKING TO PEOPLE WHO HATE TRUMP (ie not the idiots family members in the room i was in) I’ll toss them a bone that I dont like everything about Trump so they can see that Im not a mindless body snatching drone who just votes Trump and thinks the man is a god, lol
They kinda proved the case that they ARE exactly what my comment was trying to say that Im NOT
And so this is why we dont talk politics…at home…visiting family and friends…or in a video game chat box.
Everyone has an opinion and none of it matters at the end of the day. Just vote how you want to vote and leave everyone else the hell alone about their own political views.
A year in which the most important election in the history of the United States of America, in which we will decide to continue our march towards a fascist dictatorship or turn back towards a democratic republic will be decided, may be having a slight impact on the Chat channels. Heck, Yahoo got so heated they abolished their comments section. Big things are a brewing.
I haven’t noticed any racism in my trade chat on the servers i play on, i tend to avoid politics though all it does is get me heated and i don’t need that in my life.
Remember, corporations lag society. Right now, our elected leaders who represent the people have tacitly (or not so tacitly) have made this type of behavior or expression more mainstream and acceptable. Corporations would be going out on a limb to go beyond and crackdown on currently acceptable behavior.
That’s what Americans voted for, sadly.
It’ll be magically over, just like the virus pandemic, on November 4th. Just watch. “Suddenly” everything will be fine and better and cured.
