Tbf Baine has had badass moments, they just haven’t been super consistent. The intro Tauren quests where he goes with you to personally put down the Grimtotem Rebellion is Baine’s best characterization honestly *(I should say, it’s my favorite characterization of his). Really encapsulates the idea of Taurens being gentle giants slow to anger, but having immense power when they are.
You should take your own advice. Maybe it is not that deep on our end.
People can express their opinions without getting bent out of shape. I am quite mirthful when discussing my loathing for Baine, because he is a comical embarrassment.
So where you see people getting bent out of shape, and you “make a recommendation,” you should realize it is not that deep to begin with.
Again, you seem to miss the fact that this is a lore forum where people discuss a fictional story. We would not be discussing these events involving Baine if they were not events in the story.
Hey man, so long as you know it’s not a big deal that’s fine by me.
My entire point though (from like, the start) was that this part of lore is edging on irrelevancy. I fully acknowledge you and Blizzard disagree and that’s ok.
Perhaps some text is lost in translation:
When I say I don’t care, it’s not saying I don’t follow the lore it’s saying I think it’s bad, REAL bad.
I think this a fair way to look at things honestly. Baine randomly giving a piece of his horn was dumb, but it’s not a consistent thing (as in him continously shipping off his horn) and it’s honestly irrelevant past the incident (doesn’t have any real lore consequence). So I just don’t think about it. It was a dumb lore decision that I don’t like, so I don’t interact with it.
Thank you
I knew people would understand what I was trying to say.
The horn part was weird but Vincent van Gogh cut off part of his ear and mailed it to his girl friend, don’t mean his art is bad. XD
I swear the common posters in this forum are just a bunch of silly goofballs.
Lets not bring Sira into this.
She exists as the nexus of everything wrong with wow writing.
How Blizzard picks willynilly how free will works, how undeath works, the internal logic of a person and forced drama that shouldn’t exist. Sira represents everything wrong with how Blizzard treats its story and its characters.
Its both frustrating and insults the player’s intelligence.
I wish that were all that some of them were.
Which is yet another thing not in-line with his original character.
Which pales in comparison to what the Kaldorei have been through.
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Because Blizzard has not written 10,000 years worth of lore, we are supposed to assume nothing happened?
Even if we do that, that is still 3 major conflicts more than Varian had dealt with.
As a child and refugee, not in a position of leadership. From those three wars, he served no significant role.
They magiced away is character flaws because God forbid the Alliance has imperfect human characters.
The attack on Theramore was done by the Twilight’s Hammer. Yet the first conclusion he jumped to was that the Horde betrayed him. He should be thankful that Thrall didn’t react to his endless provocations because then we had Alliance and Horde at war long ebfore Cataclysm happened.
What original character? Him not wanting to execute the Horde was part of his original character. In fact part of his warcraft 2 depiction:
Having discussed the obvious benefits of a treaty with Doomhammer, King Terenas fervently hoped that the Orcs could be kept pacified long enough to eventually lose their lust for conquest. Thoras Trollbane of Stromgarde and Genn Greymane of Gilneas both disagreed vehemently with Terenas, resolving that the Orcs were too great a threat to leave alive. After months of debate and frustration, both leaders withdrew the support of their nations from the Alliance. Azeroth alone stood fast in its commitment to the Alliance. Even with the dynamic young Varien Wrynn seated upon Azeroth’s throne, the distance between the kingdoms of Azeroth and Lordaeron made their union a hollow one.
Note, that unlike Stromgarde/Gilneans(technically Kul tiras as well but that is non canonical now) it was just down to Azeroth/Dalaran/Lordearon, the three kingdoms that wanted to keep the orcs alive, who remained in the Alliance.
Minus the WoTA both the Satyr war/Shifting Sands war were not as devastating/far reaching as the three major wars. There is a reason they are called the “Great Wars”.
No, we are suppose to assume that because there was literally no great threat left. At best maybe the usual harpy/quilboar problems but for the most part Kalimdor was in relative peace during said vigil.
He was actually a full adult as of the Expedition into Draenor. Also, Tyrande did not have any significant role during the Shifting Sands and he role during the Satyr War was relatively minor as well(it was Shandris leading that charge)
Or it means he actually grew and was willing to try to be better and listen ot others like Malfurion and Genn. Also, it was not a cure, it certainly helped him be less aggressive but as shown by his short story(which happened AFTER Wolfheart) he still slid back to his more aggressive self every now and then. This was even mentioned during Warcrimes.
He was not really a character then. He was a name and also a child. His character came into it’s full form after his capture and enslavement by the Horde. And it is made quite clear to us that he holds a lot of resentment for everything the orcs had done to him and his family.
That was the character before it became inconvenient and Blizzard magiced it away.
And those two wars make the “Great Wars” Look like a hot day on the golf course.
No we are not. The Kaldorei lived in ISOLATION not PEACE. There is a reason why the Kaldorei respond violently to intruders, and it is NOT because Kalimdor was a peaceful place.
No, he was 16 when the 2nd War ended.
She had no part in the Story that was told, but she is the Leader of the Kaldorei and Leader of the Sentinels. To say she didn’t have a role is delusional.
And to say they were Minor is equally delusional. Both of those Wars were fought over the fate of Azeroth. The First and Second War were for the most part, a Human problem only.
How is “We did a Ritual to cure you of your character flaws” character growth? lol
Again, he was already an adult as of Warcraft 2, beyond the dark portal.
And yet even with all that he was willing to give peace with the Horde a chance, TWICE. Also, he was as much a character as say Terenas was as of warcraft 2. You do realize most character from the RTS had at best a blurb or two of lore when they were initially added?
Both wars barely covered a continent. Civilian casualties were also relatively low.
Tyrande, Shandis, and the Sentinels maintained their guardianship over the night elf domain. They patrolled the forest without rest, ever warry of another demonic invasion. Their efforts resulted in long sought period of peace and Tranquiliy.-Chronicles 1
So yeah, looks like after the Satyr War/Shifting sands and banishing the high elves, for the most part, Kalimdor was in relative peace.
He was 16 by the destruction of the portal but that wasn’t exactly the end of the second war considering Ner’zhul lead a second invasion and the Dragonmaw were still attacking the Alliance.
And Varian was the leader of Stormwind as Ner’zhul tried to launch a second invasion/the Alliance expedition into Draenor occured. To say Varian wouldn’t have had a role as well is just as delusional.
Because said flaws came back/were not actually cured. Again we have his short story which happens AFTER wolfheart as proof:
Anduin’s eyes were filled with both fear and bewilderment, and Varian’s heart sank. Have I become such a stranger to my own son? He tried to soften his face, but the king could feel the heat of his rage still burning on the skin. Anduin slowly backed away, then turned and fled the room. As Varian watched him go, his anger drained like water from a broken dam, leaving only emptiness behind. Varian sat down on his throne and motioned wearily for everyone to leave.
Fits perfectly into the narrative of a human character who has acquired wisdom throughout his life.
He didn’t so much gradually acquire wisdom as get his imbalance fixed by literal magic, IIRC.
Which was caused by magic.
He was 16.
I know you think that is an adult. We have have this discussion before. But it’s not.
He made that decision -before- he was enslaved and when he was a literal child.
And the loss of life was devastating. If the Kaldorei did not contain the threat in the South of Kalimdor, then there would not have been an Azeroth left.
Sought peace is not the same as achieved peace.
Reading comprehension is hard, I know.
That is literally the end of the Second War. The Orcs remained a threat into WC3, but the War was done and over when the Portal was destroyed.
He was a child.
And we literally never see that resolved in anyway.
What in the world… that whole stay and listen thing was all about Anduin. I doubt anyone on the Horde wants to hear about him - half the Alliance base could do without too ![]()
