The ACTUAL solution to how to fix social aspect:

There was an easy fix for socializing. It was back in cataclysm with guild levels. Bring them back and bring more ways a guild can make gold doing group things.

I’m fairly certain it’s CRZ that did a lot of damage.

Back in the day, you could actually develop a reputation as a crafter with good prices for example, or a fair raid leader for pugs.

Now… people you meet will literally vanish before you as you leave group lol. Now, we have to make a choice right there and then: do I add this person as a friend or not? If you select no, buhbye possible friend. But then, now you have a bunch of people you played with ONCE on your friends list and don’t really know if they’re your friend.

Yeah while Blizzard were busy turning women to fruit. FFXIV added 2B undies that enhance characters butts lol

Using classic to ‘prove’ something is a pretty bad premise, since classic is a game nobody wanted to play in the first place. It’s a prime example of Blizzard being right (people did actually “think you want it but you don’t”) and the players (or at least those asking for it) were wrong.

Another example would be the constant demand for “fresh servers” in the Wrath era, which is how we ended up with over 200 retail servers, most of which are ghost towns.

While I agree gaming culture has largely shifted, Classic did revive community and server identity. It wasn’t profound like it was the first go round, and server transfers buried it pretty quickly, but it did happen.

Mostly agree otherwise. I think the implementation of automated grouping, as it is, is antithetical to social networking. But trying to reorient WoW’s systems to encourage more interaction and facilitate deeper player interaction would require fundamentally changing their design approach, and I’m not sure they’re capable of crossing that bridge.

Its called other games

groups of friends transcend single games

WoW is not supposed to be anyone(single player or group)'s only thing. it is cringe to have that expectation for a game

but theres more to this topic than that

from my experience, it is really hard to form relationships with people in meaningless content. like, in a reeeeal easy game like, say, warframe, i just dont remember a single player ive ever played with. because the game is too easy. no one “stood out”

its really easy to remember someone you have to rely on to get something done, in content where failure comes in droves.

i dont believe casual content has a high rate of success for forming real bonds with people

Yeah and they all hate WoW as much as me and wouldn’t dare touch the game ever again unless a miracle happens. plus FF14 is more popular on my friendgroup, ex-wow player and new to MMOs alike. I don’t know a single person or even mutuals who still plays WoW in 2022. Paying 15$ a month(ff14 is cheaper) for a bad game and no guarantee of enough friends coming to play it is a huge barrier of entry

tl;dr, this aint happening any time soon.

theyre already talking to whoever they want on discord with their clique

voiceapps killed being chatty in mmos.

yea my guild also plays ff14 when it has content. but when that game’s content ramps down(and ff14’s does rather quickly), and a new raid tier is out in WoW, we gravitate towards that for the tier.

both games are seasonal

the point is, its easier to form relationships if you’re doing the hard content in both games. not the hard and easy content in 1 game. or the easy content in both games.

Why wrath is creating buzz.

many like me are hoping for LFD patch level at release. TBCC Channel 4…didn’t/doesn’t work for me. Inb4 addons…okay now I see the legit runs I still can’t get.

Need DPS.

BM hunter here!

Okay…by DPS we meant any NOT hunter. OR its whats your gear. The finest green crafted a level 150 LW level 27 hunter can make and use.

So you want a carry?

No…I need to be in a dungeon for blues. I can’t get that. So…no blues. Why I am asking to join your merry band.

LFD…this doesn’t happen. 5 people take each other as is. See how good, or bad, this gets lol. Those liking LFG channel 4 can still use that. Only people leaving it are the “scrubs” like me who can’t get in a group anyway. So the effect of this is 0 really.

Unless the bene of channel 4 is some morbid pleasure of telling DPS they aren’t wanted. If the case…well…not sure what to say about that tbh.

Only for people that nobody wanted to play with.

Of course, it is a dying genre. This is why they really need to develop the single player aspect of the game.

If that’s the case let it die and spend the $ on a brand new WC single player RPG that actually gives a great single player experience.

In my case, my friendgroup is very diverse in terms of what games we play. We’re more FPS leaning. WoW was special to us but it just isn’t worth playing it.

Id say sub fee is the 1# culprit always been. As popular as FF14 may be in my friendgroup, its more like 12 people playing it and everyone else occasionally popping to play it.

its that game everyone likes but doesn’t play frequently.

This right here my friend, is exclusive to you, your circumstances and preferences. This reflects a lot of people as well but not me, never me.

I don’t… really like or have history of uhh, making friends with normies. I don’t like pretending to be something im not just to not weird them out. I like talking about pandas, have a colorful vocabulary and so on. My friends, a ragtag group of renegades are perfect for me and i refuse to speak to outsiders knowing its a waste of time. They either get terrorized or unable to understand me.

If there is no obligation to do something in a 'casual social" way, then the game will go on as it has before.

As you said, the internet, people, gaming and communication back in around 2004 were very different from what we have now. Even when I started in 2009, there were social events that were organised by players rather than being activities provided by the game. We had guild scavenger hunts and quiz nights and a number of guilds organised market days in Stormwind and Orgrimmar where people could effectively set up stalls to sell things of all kinds. Its been a very long time since Ive seen anything like that ingame.

You can’t reverse time and you can’t force people to be social. They either want to be, or they don’t. I personally would love to see those markets again, or guilds that get involved in the social activities but it seems to me that its not what most players want anymore. Which is a bit sad.

i mean i think its simple

did you remember the guy you played with
and
are you even going to have the want or need to talk to people

theres 2 ways these can become possible: looks, and ability

fact is, im not even gonna lie, warframe was a reeeeeeeeeeeeally pretty game. ff14 too. some people actually look fantastic and you may just find yourself talking to them because their drip is lit af fam

but, often, that person might not actually relate to you in any way, he may just be one of those “fashion is true endgame” types. ive known quite a few, and the eventual drifting away from them seems kinda inevitable. fashion is just not a strong enough common ground.

but when skill, and talent, and worth, are on full display for 2 individuals, amongst an entire group of monkeys you’re currently grouped with(via some sort of lfg system), and you gotta take point with this other chad to carry these monkeys through the content, be it pve or pvp, it’s amazing. the appreciation, the respect, the success actualized during those kind of encounters lead to lasting relationships. that is how you solve the social problem. by not being one of the braindead monkeys. and casual content enables that type of behavior.

It is already dying under the current direction.

Basically.

A tbcc goal as that is where I basically am burning my remaining sub time is pre-raid tier BIS. Crafted. Some even carries over to latter phases.

Go kill a crap ton of dinosauars…make your nice armour. I can do that when the leveling hunter gets to the crater. week or 2 of dead dino’s…gets me something. If only the Skinning/LW 300 for tbcc ready for its leveling green crafted armour. The backup in case AH sucks for some mats if I get lazy or rng on skinning hates me lol.

Retail…the string em along ploy wears thin for many. Jsut wait for tier crafting! Its here. on time gate. Run raid…they do that. Time gate 2. Hell you got people slumming it in lfr. their normal/heroic luck sucked…crap lfr tier gear is still tier gear. IF…you get it.

no. i dont remember anyone unless they were playing as a qt panda, tauren or worgen and said something funny that interested me

That’s not how i meet and talk to people. I meet and talk to people by what i internally call the ‘Based-o-Meter’. I do a lot of dogwhistling. I verify what common interests we have, and the most important part

Actually i dont know how to type this without getting banned LMFAO. Lets just say, i like people who are untamed, unchained, not held by social hierarchies.

I simply know whose for me right away. its chemistry.

im built different idc about being good or not i like to have fun with people i enjoy company of

When i used to play rainbow six siege a friend of mine who always played with us, always was the first to die and we didnt care, it actually made it more fun and interesting the dynamic, a meme in the friendgroup.

Enst… we are built different… im telling you, im simply a different breed. your advice isn’t compatible with me. but it is for most people…

Well you’re kinda right. I play because I like to collect mounts. Obviously i want the KSM mount but I dont like pugging mythic+. I know joining a guild IS the solution but most guild in my realm do high keystones or are raiding. So in the end I need to pug to get the mount.
