"That's a tank item" - Seeking Opinions

If it makes you feel better, our bear tank rolled need on Robes of Arugal in SFK.

It happens.

This also happens all the time.

Heck, my mage lost the Hypnotic Blade roll to a rogue.

He was DPSing though. Lucky he was allowed to roll on it at all. The shaman was actually healing and using a shield.

The only real response you need there is, “you aren’t tanking”…

The shaman is going to get way more use of the shield than a DPS warrior is. Shamans actually melee mobs while soloing. A warrior who doesn’t even tank in dungeons is never going to use a shield.

for wearing in dungeons get something else with int, use a caster offhand or even a staff, you should be getting hit so the extra armor “shouldn’t matter”

also if the actual tank wanted it then I would say you are in the wrong, but its just a warrior for offspec, tell him it is for enhancement offspec = justified.

warriors seem to want to need on everything, 2h, 1h, shields, plate, mail, leather, swear they would need on cloth if it came with the right stats

SFK lol get some lvls. I would say 40+ is where you should get kicked for that nonsense.

Pretty sure any spec of shaman gets AP from strength, and every spec of shaman is going to be meleeing mobs while solo. This is as much a resto item as it is an enhance item.

If the Warrior wanted to roll on tank gear, they should have either said so at the beginning or asked when it dropped and accepted your answer. If you play as DPS, you roll as DPS unless an agreement is made prior.

And yet a shaman with a more ‘tanky’ shield may just survive when a mob hits them, when the pull goes wrong or god forbid in a pvp sense wanting your healer/windfury bot to have survivability.

Welcome to classic wow, where ALL stats are meaningful in someway to all classes, specs.

You answered your whole post, with two simple words.

then under that logic as a healer you are fine with them rolling on a str mace with a shadow bolt proc ? lol

Responding only to the OP: You are correct here.

The Crest is probably better for a warrior tank than for you, but you did not have a warrior tank who wanted it. You had a DPS warrior who thinks him rolling for off-spec is more important than you rolling for your main-spec.

If it is an upgrade that you plan to equip immediately, Need is justified. If you only want it for off-spec, Greed or tell the group you want to Need for off-spec. Or, go into the dungeon announcing you are rolling as Tank for items.

Without doing these things, the shield is equally valuable to both of you, and you won it, so good on you.

Lol I can’t believe the number of people actually saying don’t roll on a Cruel Barb as a Hunter (if a Rogue is present) and this shield as a healer. Not to mention the Cruel Barb lasts way longer on a Hunter than a Rogue. A hunter can benefit from that attack way last when a Rogue would have to give it up because of the ratio. Fact is, you’re not guildies and you’re both running the dungeon for the same reason: to get exp and loot. If I need an item, I’m rolling need. I’m not justifying myself to some stranger, because their opinion (regardless of its popularity) is that I don’t need it. If they don’t like it, don’t run another dungeon with me. No skin off my back.

Sure, I don’t expect my healers at level 24 to heal mobs to death while questing. Shamans level by meleeing mobs, they are perfectly entitled to roll on melee weapons.

If it’s a tank item and the actual tank doesn’t want/need it, it’s up for grabs at that point. That’s why there’s a need before greed option out there. Lots of things can arguably be better for someone else, but if it’s only slightly better than what you currently have…ITS STILL AN UPGRADE !!! In short- go for it.

What if the ‘dps warrior’ wants to tank but doesnt have the gear, and wants to roll on the item so they can tank in future.

What about the tank who wants a dps set, so they can change their spec.

All gear is useful to all classes.

Players need to stop thinking along the line of personal progression only, run the instance again and again until everyone has everything they want.

At the time you turn 60, you won’t have even remembered the drama. Just let it slide. Not worth frumping about other peoples’ problems.

are you talking about healers in your guild ? guild runs are different also I guess if the healer is taking away say a blue drop weapon from a squishy like a rogue who has a green dagger? most healers would pass, I would pass as a healer for a rogue in that situation.

your joking right ? or are you trying to troll you cannot be serious trying to claim cruel barb is better for hunters than rogues.
alright here’s why you’re dead wrong the whole reason people tell hunters to let the rogue have it is because its a One hander and not a Main hand sword. which means being combat spec they can use it in their off hand the pool of really good One handers compared to main handers quite limiting. hunters on the other hand use just about every weapon and because of this have a massive pool of items to draw from to fill their stat block.
