That made me chuckle too. But I do love how both do genuinely care for one another also. But I do wonder who the ghost/necromancer lady was though, they never mention her name.
my money is on Althea Ebonlocke if you forced me to guess
- Already evil since Legion
- Warlock family member (presumed)
- Ancestor killed by Medivh
- Dad also turned evil in Legion
etc
Nice fun little story.
Although - man, poor Duskwood. I know it has a reputation as one of the lesser guarded of Stormwindâs territories but the only reason they were saved is because Fairwind happened to win a treasure map.
Its interesting how the writers tied a quest item into the lore in such a way. Now I feel dumb for vendoring that torch.
I wonder what other artifacts they might be on the hunt for now? There is quite a lot. Maybe the Eye of Paleth.
I was thinking her too. But my first thought was Blind Mary finally went evil, but the description of the banshee doesnât match Blind Mary at all. So itâs most likely Althea
Eh I dont recall her ever being killed?
We can always ask. Golden might answer.
I donât have twitter, do you mind giving it a shot? Hopefully sheâll confirm it for us.
I mean the zone is mostly cemeteries and feral undead. Iâd imagine itâs a hot property for necromancers. Seeing as they didnt feel the need to name her itâs a safe enough bet sheâs just some rando.
Iâm mainly curious where she picked up that discount Invincible sheâs riding.
They probably should have left the torch at Twilight Grove, as it probably would have been safer there than taking it right back to where it had been stolen from.
She couldâve built the creature herself. Necromancers/Liches are notorious for making new undead constructs.
And the Nightbane Worgen. Which makes me wonder, are they mentioned at all in the story? I mean in Cata we saw the Gilneans went to Duskwood to help cure the worgen there, and now six years later we see them still there (as seen in the Worgen Heritage Quest) trying to cure the worgen with the help of Vassandra Stormclaw who was one of the druids that helped the Gilneans at Talâdoren.
So what is the situation there? Are most of the worgen there âcureâ with the salve like Sven Yorgen was? Are they still running rampant?
No mention of the worgen and I actually thought they were maybe setting that up with the howling but turns out to just be the wounded Nightâs Watch commander.
Though when they do get to Ravenâs Hill the place is swarming with undead so presumably the worgen there had the good sense to leave.
The worgen arenât even mentioned in the story. Nor are the worgen at at Raven Hill bought up.
Aww man that would have been cool, how do you have howling and not make it be a worgen, come on. That is Duskwoodâs thing!
That is a shame that they arenât mentioned, although that is interesting that they are not in Raven Hill as that was their base of operation. HmmmmâŚ
I think the point is the flame needs to be near the cemetary to actually have an effect.
No it was a spelling(as mentioned I was reading it/doing other stuff) error but now that I finished the short story the title works as well. So yeah, not gonna edit it.
As an added note, I am pretty impressed Blizzard has not forgotten Darkshire/Duskwood use to be called Brightwood/Grand Hamlet. For all of the complaints about certain lore being mangled/corrupted Blizzard does managed to keep certain things intact.
Finally finished.
I gotta say, this story gave me good Warcraft Legend vibes.
Focused on a very small cast of characters, in a location that is familiar but not used often, dealing with something minor but significant to the characters lives.
Plus Flynnâs pun at the end was bloody brilliant.
Shaw wouldâve been familiar with Althea as she was the previous leader. Though she did remark on Duskwood being an old place to herâŚ
My speculation would be the wife of Abercrombie, whom he brought back from the dead. https://wow.gamepedia.com/Eliza
It was actually in Legion Beta. I should have clarified. However, the outcry had Blizz changing Sarah Ladimore from helping the Veiled Hand to defending the townsfolk as seen in the Rogue campaign.
