It’s just funny how most people who didn’t really experience or barely experienced TBC’s arenas are excited for it. Even earlier, I saw Reth and Cov like my post and I know they both played TBC as did I (I missed glad in s4 on stormstrike by 30 points).
While most people who pushed/played TBC’s arenas a lot know how disappointed they’ll be. The mechanics now don’t compare to the amount of class/race imbalance and gimmicky mechanics.
Dampening games don’t compare to vsing a hunter/sl lock/disc mana burning you, orcs can’t be stunned, wf totem sword wars, mace stun wars with stormherald, rogues in general, ele shamans 1 shotting you with chain lightning nature swift the list of issues goes on and on. The best part is, that legit will not change while it may in SL if devs decide to.
Also, as I stated before and by others, the 10+ year min/max spergs are going to ruin it for everybody else by flooding the ladder and gatekeeping so.
Idk, to me what’s most important is the level of entry. How much gear do I need to be able to play, and can I just pvp? But either way I will probably end up playing both games.
The only thing that pisses me off about retail is the chores, game doesn’t even feel like wow anymore.
The min/maxxing is entirely different in TBC, though. Arena restricts the use of the majority of stuff that was abused in classic like LIPs, FAPs, super sticky glue, etc.

You mean like panda stun in BfA, orc dominance for 3/4 of classes in SL? Yea, they toned down how strong racials are, but they’re still a huge factor for a lot of classes. Also, they replaced race mechanics in SL with covenants. Go play a Maldraxxus warrior to the same success as Kyrian/Venthyr. I’ll wait.

And yet on all of the private TBC servers, none of the comps you listed are dominating the ladders with exception to rogues, and 90% of their games last under four minutes. And it’s also pretty bold to assume the devs will do anything to intentionally balance SL at this point. They released it in November and have been extremely hands off for the first four months when balancing issues are at their peak. Shadowlands RELEASED IN MAINTENANCE MODE. Amazing.

You underestimate how large the TBC private server playerbase really is. Classic was a different beast - the playerbase was HUGE. There were enough players to legitimately impact the retail masses. TBC won’t likely be the same, especially when a lot of classic players have extremely limited interest in TBC purely because the amount of cheese/gimmicks had been cut. Even then, you can’t gatekeep what you can’t beat. Get gud, as everyone on this forum likes to say.
You can change covs pretty easily and for free, you can’t race change in TBC and are stuck with race imbalance unless you reroll. Orcs being completely immune to stun due to meta gem socket is worse than anything else in the game regardless of what you can attempt to dish out. Stop trying to justify where you can’t.
Those comps will exist, just because people don’t play them on priv doesn’t they’re not going to happen (disc is still very relevant on tbc priv servers as are sl/sl locks. You’re telling me sl/sl lock + rdruid is dog? Nah it’s not I doubt you’ve even played TBC ngl).
As I said, regardless of how often the devs make changes they still have the option to. TBC things will not change and will be gimmicky regardless. Also, s1 of every expansion has been piss poor even WoTLK.
How am I underestimating? Wouldn’t I be overestimating in that situation lol? Grammar.
As far as “getting gud” as I said before, I highly doubt you even played in TBC while I did and got pretty close to gladiator myself (shoulders/wep in s4 on Black Dragonflight + Stormstrike). It wouldn’t be about “get gud” it’s about spergs who have sat on TBC servers for 10+ years min/maxing and flooding the NA ladders (there won’t be battlegroups so yes, all the spergs will flood the gladiator spots).
Also, post main before bashing else I’m going to assume you’re just a salty goof who’s resentful for being hardstuck in SL. Can’t take you seriously.
Because he has high hopes for TBC arenas, doesn’t want to hear the bad.
I played just for funsies towards the end and it was indeed not funsies. I really am hyped for BC though, but I do remember hour long games which I dont think I will like now that I am grown, so well see.
I mean, I won’t at all be disappointed to “learn” anything about TBC Arena meta, since I’ve been playing a small TBC private server with horrible lag/mechanics and it’s STILL way more fun than retail since it has Soloqueue.
I understand what is overpowered in TBC and I understand what is overpowered in Shadowlands. Healers aren’t god-kings with 15 instant heals, 30 “stop all dmg” buffs, and 94 ways to infinitely live in TBC. That’s a main part why retail has become such a trash expansion. Every AWC game was pushed to deep dampening because Activision can’t correctly tune healers OR the dampening mechanic itself.
TBC will be more fun than Shadowlands, and WoTLK will literally kill the retail arena scene as everyone will want to play the better, more competitive expansion which is WoTLK hands down.
They literally don’t think about it. In the interview with one of the WoW devs he said PvP balance wasn’t looked at before launch.
No DR arenas were super great. WLD is going to dominate. The only reason other comps were playable in BC was because OP mechanics weren’t instantly abused like they are now. Warlocks are going to run in their and just start draining mana. Disc/Hpal/Lock will be OP.
Wrath will be good though. Even with the ICC PvE trinkets, the game was never busted besides at the start before they balanced DK. Which they did a great job of.
before my bf tried retail arenas after not playing for many years: ugh i never want to play bc again
after: umm maybe i’ll try bc lol this wasnt what i remembered it to be like
