I’m not gonna lie, I’m actually excited to try Tanking in midnight.
I always felt that tanking required mandatory WAs and Addons to be able to play the role, and now that they are removing all that stuff, and making the classes more straightforward, alongside better readability and visibility of the gameplay, I feel I can finally try tanking
And haven’t thought about this, but I think this will be a good change to make people wanna try tank and probably get more tanks rolling in the market for LFG

The most detrimental thing to more tanks in LFG is the rest of the players in LFG. Tanking is sometimes a thankless role, or taken for granted by other players.

Well, I guess that replaces me then, i’m not tanking or healing until heal frames catch up to what addon developers figured out ages ago.
Might be 2 years, or even longer. I have 0 faith blizzard does this well especially when the CEO said one thing, but the opposite happened.

I would feel uncomfortable tanking without damage meter and health feedback. The party frames don’t cut it. We will see how it looks on release.

“I’m really excited about tanking now that I’ll be doing it with less information than I had before.”

Well I mean, if going into midnight I don’t need that much information like before and this less information is well organized and visible, then this is not a real issue to start with

Two huge ifs!
If you just want a dumbed-down game, you can do that already by doing follower dungeons or Normals.

It’s closed alpha of an expansion that was presented like a week ago.
Of course there will be a lot of ifs.
I’m just taking for granted what QA and DEV interviews showcased and presented

What you see in alpha is what you get at launch. Been that way for years.
It’s always the same story with blizzard expansions:
“It’s just alpha. Give it time.”
Followed by:
“It’s too late for them to make changes. You should have said something in alpha.”
Every. Time.

Devs killing combat addons is the easy part. Devs designing the game properly like they should’ve done 20yrs ago so addons aren’t necessary, is a whole 'nother thing. Getting it right in 4 months is a tall order, to boot.

So you are ok with the direction, you just don’t think blizzard can make it work until release
I was excited for the Dragonflight UI revamp because I was hoping to cut down on my addon usage.
But Blizzard’s UI remains so bad that I wasn’t able to drop one single addon.
They couldn’t even make a passing clone of Bartender.
Hell, they couldn’t even manage to put in-game coordinates into the UI so I could drop TomTom.
The in-game coordinates they created and has been in the game since the beginning, but they hide from you unless you use an addon to display them.
And people trust them to magically get it right, now.

We’re fine with their stated intent, we just don’t know if they will be successful in developing that implementation in the time left, or if they are telling us the truth about what they’re trying to do.

Blizzard should be doing what they did with Questhelper, years ago.
They took what made Questhelper popular, put it into the game (that’s where those blue “quest zones” on our maps, and the yellow “objective is this way” minimap arrows came from).
And then… they left Questhelper alone.
If Blizzard’s tools are adequate, people won’t use the addons.
Blizzard hasn’t made an adequate clone of an addon in 15 years.

I’ve never used cheap auras and only have DBM as a “combat addon” (and sure it absolutely is a godsend) and yet I do more than well enough for myself.
Tanking is a stupid easy mechanical role to execute and content the literal 99.9% do never needed extreme min maxing in the first place (especially from the tank).
I promise you that you don’t need whatever cheap auras and custom UI or whatever other nonsense to be an effective tank. Especially this babymode queue content. Even in double digit keys, it’s far more important to know each and every trash mob and their capabilities and know when and where to expect to use your cooldowns…in lesser content just push W and keep aware to make sure the walking corpses are hitting you and the glorified NPCs aren’t making friends you haven’t introduced yourself to physically yet.

Ion’s goal is just like it was with his War on Flying: Split the playerbase in half and make them hate each other.
Instead of hating him.

Instead of asking tough questions about what the heck is going on at Blizzard Central.

Or instead of asking “Why are you making all these terrible mechanics in fights? Just stop doing that.”
Ion’s excuse is “The addons made us do it.”
He’s like a toddler.

At least he’s stopped blaming it on the people who haven’t worked for the company for more than a decade, who taught them to think wrong and locked them into that mindset.
