Tank Abuse

This issue is why Dual Spec was implemented. Which is why #nochanges is idiotic, dual spec should’ve been available at launch. Then everyone could farm, pvp or do dailies on their DPS spec and easily switch to heal / tank when a PUG appeared. They might not be great at it, but it removed the need to stay at a dedicated role with no or little solo viability.

Sure, different games have different functionality/features and may have different solutions/problems.

Would Dungeon Finder solve the OP’s problem of tank abuse? It certainly doesn’t seem clear to me that it would. Would it decrease the average wait time for any given DPS player to find their way into a group? Possibly. Would it increase the wait time for some? Almost certainly, unless it also increases the number of tanks available per player.

But anyway, that was also kind of my point above with,

There are so many different topics happening in this thread, it’s hard to know at any given post what the topic is.

Well the point of the OP is why don’t more people want to tank for pugs?

Ask pugs why they aren’t more welcoming to tanks, why do they have to pay tanks.

It seems that the OP is giving an answer to that question, rather than asking it:

In my personal experience, this has not been the case. I don’t recall any instance of being or feeling abused while tanking an instance during WoW Classic or TBC Classic.

Abused no, held to a higher standard than dps/healers on top on tanking specs sucking outside of instances?

Well, I don’t usually join other people’s groups; I form my own, so that may impact my experience.

Yep, unfortunately that is the culture nowadays.

Hopefully sooner than later the snowflake era will end

I don’t think 99.9999% of tanks know who I am, and that I am a sweet, loving, pro-tank individual.

The reason I can’t find a tank is because people don’t want to tank. There is almost no incentive for a player to tank for a group of randoms.

The reason you can’t find tanks is because if your guild already has tanks, there isn’t any point in leveling and gearing out another tank.

Tanks in raiding guilds are geared and don’t need heroics, and if they do, they have a pool of guildies to choose from.

Tanks not in raiding guilds have no where to go after heroics and have trouble finding new groups to become a part of.

When you only need two tanks for a 25m raid instead of five, the number of tanks per 5man you need is lower.

no i dont hate playing the game, but why would i spend 1 hour in a heroic when it takes 20mins to clear? why spend 3-4 hours progressing in old content raids? doesnt make sense on why a good tank should waste their time.

I have dedicated most of my life to the public good. Its one reason that even though I’m 43 and retired with a 6 figure residual income for the rest of my life…I donate what would be occupational time to worthwhile local causes and play games with my free time. Don’t assume just because you are a terrible person that everyone prescribes to those same standards.

You would tank those instances because you like to play the game. No one should pay you for playing you character. It is not a job…unless you’re trying to compensate for some failure in your real life. The characters that you play this game with are people, real people, whose time is just as valuable as yours. Don’t let the world turn you into a sociopath.

No one tanks in pugs because:

  1. A lot of players can be verbally abusive.
  2. You have to have good knowledge of where you’re going in these dungeons and its tough without a map.
    So revert back to one.
  3. Peer pressure and responsibility - You got 4 others to take care of and people start getting upset if you screw up, also revert to 1.
  4. Because of the above, most are in guilds and aren’t harassed to death.

Maybe this community should stop being toxic.

I was looking forward to tanking in Wrath as prot warrior was fun the first time around. But without LFD I will stick to just guild runs

That’s no an appropriate thing to state to someone.

It is absolutely appropriate to say to someone who lives their life purely for themselves.
