Talanji cannot be 18 yrs old

What type of abomination retcon is this? So you’re telling me KING Rastakhan had Talanji just 18 years algo and served as kign for over 200 years? Where the heck is her mom then? why is she not even mentioned as something that happened quite recently for troll age?

This makes absolutely no sense right now WTF.

That would be correct. Rezan prolonged his life; as Loa of Kings, that is something he could do for his king. Gonk even comments that he could do something similar (when Rastakhan was wasting away after Rezan’s death), but it would not be his place to do so. Thus, the bargain with Bwonsamdi.

Why is the mum relevant? She may well could have died in the Cataclysm, when she gave birth, or any other kind of way trolls die. I daresay the late king could have had many consorts, as is the want of a king, especially one who has the potential for a very long life.

There is no retcon. Hope this has cleared it up.

I don’t think we ever knew her age?

Sure.

We don’t know.

We don’t know.

Yeah, I don’t ever remember hearing about her age at all.

I think it’s the first time her age is mentioned.

Rastakhan was long lived beyond most trolls. Talanji hasn’t been yet, presumably not benefiting from the same boon Rezan gave.

It’s possible Rastakhan had many offspring over the years that passed, and Talanji hit the questionable jack pot of being the heir to be around at the time of his death.

Alternatively, Rastakhan seldom took on wives due to his longevity meaning outliving his loved ones regularly. So Talanji’s mother was a lady who got through this anyway, and had Talanji.

Talanji might’ve also been born with the intent to become queen. I might vaguely recall her being groomed as an heiress? Don’t quote me, I don’t recall where.

Even in BfA, she mentioned being “a little girl during the Cataclysm” iirc, she was always that young, it’s not a retcon.

My personal speculation on this one is that Zul advised the king who to marry and who would give him a strong heir for the throne. Rastakan would’ve had to be careful about who he wed and how many children he had unless Zandalar would risk being thrown into Civil War.

Knowing Zul he chose a wealthy/powerful/influential woman who was doomed to die at childbirth, thus reducing obstacles for his eventual attempted coup. Given the recent trend in story-telling he probably saw Rastakan would have a daughter and (Zul) being a misogynist, figured she’d be easy to either control or kill. Rastakan of course would trust Zul’s foresight without worrying the man meant to betray him.

So king Rastakhan had intercourse at 180 with a random lady that somehow doesn’t get mentioned one bit. Trolls also last a long time. This idea of Rezan prolonging his life should be thousands of years not a mere 100 at best it seems. wtf is going on with trolls!?!?!?

Not really. The old RPGs had the maximum lifespan for Jungle Trolls at about 79. Granted that’s no longer canon, and the lifespans for High/Blood Elves was definitely changed from that, but we’ve had lore from before the RPGs saying they (High/Blood Elves) lived thousands of years anyways.

So i just checked WoWpedia and good lord lol.

Empowered by a loa a troll can live to be over 200 years old with no mention of a regular lifespan.

Meanwhile Muradin was effing 221 during the Third War and he don’t look a day over 30 lol.

Fantasy lifespans are weird.

Maybe he just wasn’t in the mood. I mean, when you’re long-lived because you’ve got the mojo of a loa keeping you alive, you probably figure you got the time for things like that.

Traditional fantasy has Elves as the longest living race (thousands of years), followed by Dwarves (hundreds of years), then Humans (100 being the max), and then your monster races topping out typically around 30-50 years, though I always figured that typically was less to do with being old and more being the age they slow down enough that they can’t avoid getting killed by someone younger.

Of course it’s fitting. Anduin is put in charge of his empire at about 18, so naturally Talanji is put in charge of her empire at a similar age.

Both became leaders because of their Father’s deaths.

It’s just parity at this point, right?

I mean maybe? but Rastakhan never showed himself as misogynist he clearly caredc for his daughter.

No, I meant Zul was a misogynist; he advised Rastakan to pick the wife that’d give him a daughter and then die, because he (Zul) felt a girl couldn’t possibly pose a threat to his future plans for a coup.

Sorry for the confusion.

I had similar thoughts. Talanji is too young. People wrote about his prolonged life but why he hasn’t more children? Maybe he was supposed to live a thousent years and he was married in his “teens”.
Or maybe he didn’t want to see his chirdren die before him and he postpone it as long as possible.

definitely things that have to be addressed at some point. Since Rastakhan was mostly a hi and goodbye character to push talanji’s story forward.

His second in command was Yazma. So I wouldn’t call Zul a misogynist. Plus we don’t know exactly when Zul jumped on the G’huun band wagon. If anything his game plan was kill Rastakhan and then deal with Talanji. He probably figured that Talanji’s youth would be against her and that it would suggest her being a puppet to one of her allies, would him more to his side.

That tactic was actually seen in Shadows Rising where the Widow’s Bite grew in strength due to fears of Talanji being Bwonsamdi’s puppet. Granted it wouldn’t the same scale, but it’s one thing to die for the rightful ruler and another to die for a puppet King/Queen.

Zul hasn’t been characterized as a misogynist in the past, on that I agree, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he retroactively presented as one just because he was a villain, and Blizzard’s recent trend with the story is what it is. I don’t think its necessarily a bad thing so long as consistency can be maintained. Certainly Yazma being his second would undermine that, but if there was a short story or a vision or something of the past and we learn he actually only picked her because he thought she’d be easy to control or something due to her gender, I wouldn’t be surprised.
