For the first time since Legion, DF makes me WANT to run an alt. So far that is. Hoping they arent hiding some horribleness just waiting for pre orders to fill up to release some abomination in prepatch on us all. lol.
Im waiting to buy AFTER release because of my trust issues with this company.
Daily hubs? TBC didn’t even launch with any real hubs. Wrath and Cata launched with a few, MoP launched with a TON and for criticized for it.
WoD had a daily assault quest. It had all reps grindable day 1 with no gates. It had Ashran, garrisons to work on, etc. It had its legendary quest line, proving grounds update, etc.
It had all the normal stuff like raids, dungeons, BGs, arena, and now Ashran and the collisium. All things you could just jump right in.
I think what’s clear is launching with 3-4 daily hubs is basically THE most important attribute of an expansion to day there are things to do?
I’m waiting for someone to point out what they could do on TBC launch that wasn’t their for WoD launch.
I don’t understand what you are complaining about. The systems we had to grind for in the last few expansions where done through world quests and dungeons… All AP grinds did was force you into doing world quests and dungeons so you don’t fall behind.
It does suck not having something new like Islands, Warfronts and Torghast but overall the expasnion looks great so far and I’m happy to freely play alts again without needing to grind for weeks on end to get started with what I would like to do.
With the PvP gearing changes random bg’s should be fun once more as we can just jump in on any old character, get geared quickly for PvP and have fun. Alts in general will be much better off as initial gearing won’t be a pain with crafted gear and the invasion system getting us started.
World content seems better than in past expansions. New flying system looks amazing, I always love games with good flying mechanics.
Overall I’m happy with what I see. Even if I grow tired of the patch and take a break there is nothing wrong with that, it’s far more healthy than being strung along to make up for some extra grind.
exactly. The Mists farm and the garrison are proof enough they CAN do housing, whether they claim they can or not. Its going to have to be instanced. We figured that out from the time we mentioned housing. Its like like everyone who owns the same house in ESO are all standing there together in the same space, lol.
WoW CAN have housing. They simply have chosen not to so far, and making excuses for not doing it.
I think the issue is that the grinds we have now, are basically mandatory to not get left in the dust.
You cant NOT do your covenant, grind your AP, or what ever the gimmick was the last 3 exp and still be viable.
No compair this to BC and wrath, you did not HAVE to grind the majority of the stuff in the older EXP. Wrath for example, the only actual faction you had to grind was Hodir for the shoulder enchants, outside ofthat, everything was really just because you wanted to do it.
I think Blizzard could have kept systems going for a few more expansions had they not been so pig-headed and ridiculous about saying no to account-wide credit for a lot of it. And after the failures became apparent they were so determined to not pull the rip-cord as they knew better than everyone. I seriously doubt that level of hubris just vanishes overnight… but… I’ll wait to see what happens.
I know my tolerance for busy work systems has plummeted and I’m very cynical of anything Blizzard puts out now.
Questing?
Lots of mogs, pets, etc to farm?
Lots of world elites to fight?
Theres a TON of crap this game COULD offer InSTEAD of these TRASH number grinds.
Lack of imagination and laziness is the reason we get azerite/anima/ap grinds in the first place.
Moderation is the key.
Im perfectly fine with the systems…as long as they are contained within interesting content that I want to do anyway.
So if you give me anima drops in content im enjoying, I dont even notice there is anything Im really grinding for. Im loving the content.
But when its garbage mind numbing, watching the same episode of some boring 70s sit com day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day…till Im wondering what the suicide rate around here might be…then yeah, all Im looking at then is “Geezus Crisco…3000 more anima to get this ONE flipping mog and only 87 more pieces to go” lol.
I dont mind daily quests. but when there are like 7 of them, and Im having to do the same ones for 2 flipping years…yeah, now im annoyed.
Some will say “but but but…go run dungeons” or raids.
The same 4 dungeons day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day?
Same exact problem. Same boring, mindless content.
make MORE questline. MORE little things to farm. MORE random things to find out just wandering the wilderness.
Stop trying to force me to play bad content with trash systems for overpriced mogs that suck entirely in the first place.
one word…Garrison.
It sucked. Big time. TOO consuming. TOO much focus
The mists farm was a perfect balance of interesting and NOT overpowering the content.
Exactly. As I’ve been saying, it’s not the systems themselves that are the problem but blizzards poor implementation of them and blizzards reluctance at making necessary changes to them. If SL had launched with freely being able to swap covenants for example, and torghast was a place to get catch up gear and transmog only, the overall opinion of the expansion would’ve been much higher, but hindsight is 20/20 as they say.
Magic 8 ball says, “Try again later.”
I agree and think it’s a good point. It feels like instead of reiterating and refining the idea, they just regurgitated it in different packages.
im sorry i thought this was a thread based around people whining about systems causing end game of DF not getting enough content.
yea no doubt if this current patch was the start of shadowlands it would have been so radical of a expansion imo.
and like you said those changes would have been rad.
yeah…its not the systems themselves entirely thats the problem. its how they use them to replace good content, especially when they double down on it all instead of understanding this one little detail…
WE THE PLAYERS ARE THE ONES WHO PLAY THE GAME AND HAVE TO ENJOY IT OR WE STOP PLAYING AND PAYING FOR IT.
lol
If they cant keep US happy, they lose their paychecks because we lose interest.
Honestly, while this is true for most normal folk, this does not seem to apply to Ion and blizzard since somewhere around 2015 or so.
They continue to make the same stupid decisions, choices and mistakes over and over and over again.
Its one of two things at this point.
They cant learn so keep repeating their mistakes.
They DO learn and DO comprehend that theyre making the mistakes, they just dont care.
I dont personally see that its anything but one of the above.
They either DO see or they DONT.
If its #1 they need to be replaced with folks who CAN learn from their mistakes.
If its #2, some need to be dismissed with extreme prejudice for knowingly doing what they do fully understanding theyre running paying customers away in droves.
This game has seen good times and bad. Ups and downs. CLEARLY the base WANTS to love the game, wasnt BFA one of the biggest expansion sellers in a while at first? People WANT to play. But then they come back and find out that, yes, Ion is still at his antics with the game and its gonna suck…yet again. And so they evidently leave in droves again, like in WoD, based on the sub charts.
I dont mind systems. I mind it when theyre used to try to force me to play garbage, uninspired content with some hook like a mog or a mount dangling out there if only I’ll run boring, tedious content to get them.
It was, but people hated azerite gear and a lot of the content and left.
I hated the systems since Legion, and even hated the start of Legion. Artifact knowledge was a grind, legiondaries were a failure that wasn’t completely fixed until far later in the expac, halls were broken at first and some hall campaigns were far longer than others.
BFA released azerite gear without us getting to really test it in beta. And then keep stacking on systems to make up for it being ill received.
Even these earlier systems were over bearing, badly tuned and only there to supplement for the loss of skill trees. Good riddance to them and the never-ending carrot on a stick.
