I was always under the impression once undead your going to the maw no matter what. Which can make for great motivation for forsaken and DKs to not die. But after seeing how Arthas ended up in the maw, what brought Sylvanas there?
That was the idea, but my understanding is that Blizzard pulled out the retcon stick yet again. Being undead is no longer immediate grounds for being sent to the Maw.
Her reveling in her evil without even the slightest justification by the time of WotLK doomed her.
She is a Sociopath and the only things she once valued seems to be her Family.
The Lich King at the least mentions the Justice of the Grave so he at least justified his crimes in his mind and when he got his Soul back he became so filled with remorse he asked his father if it was over.
Even Deathwing justifies his Crimes as does N’Zoth(both are Narcissists by the way) and Sargeras. Sylvanas doesn’t justify her crimes to herself at all!
No, we are not. We are also have no way of knowing if the Maw was ever truly her destined afterlife just post-ICC, or if she wasn’t just dragged away from the one she was supposed to go to … and plunged into the Maw. An afterlife she was merely convinced was going to be her eternity, to get her act in certain ways. We already know with Illidan and Helya and Vol’jin and Mueh’zala that souls can be abducted at the moment of their death away from their destined afterlife by a sufficiently powerful death entity. Its entirely possible the same happened to Sylvanas.
Regardless, even if Sylvie was not destined for the Maw after ICC, she sure as hell earned herself a spot there now in her desperate efforts to avoid that fate. That’s a VERY classic trope I suppose. The very steps you take to avoid your destiny, are all too often the very ones that lead you there.
Though I can’t read OP’s thread on account of him being a monumental troll, I agree with the notion that Sylvanas belongs in Revendreth.
Every evil soul belongs in Revendreth first. It may take eons, but if they can be redeemed and made to serve the greater purpose of the eternal afterlife, they should be given that chance. And that’s how Revendreth is framed-- Almost no one is sent directly to the Maw, ever, but instead go to Revendreth to get sorted out and given one last chance.
If they fail that somehow, only then do they go to the Maw.
Except one had to “Sacrifice” herself to return Sylvanas to the realm of the living. That is highly altruistic even if the Val’kyr was just doing for the other Val’kyr. I have never gotten that vibe from them, especially with the dialogue in Silverpine when Godfrey splattered her brains out.
I imagine there was a lot more to it than what Edge of Night told. And this isn’t me thinking this since BFA/Shadowlands.
Of course the one thing that Warbringers Sylvanas did to surprise me was she didn’t raise Delaryn Summermoon like Arthas raised Sylvanas. (She did however course correct a patch later on that.) So I am someone that doesn’t see much in the character to begin with so there is that bias.
Sylvanas, obviously, is condemned to eternity in the Maw. Whoever the new Jailer is (hopefully not her because please no Kerrigan revamp, thanks), she’ll try to strike a deal several times, then plead and beg, each with a solid “No.” Her undead head will be seperated from her shoulders, put on a plate, and then put in a special room where she has to look at Arthas for all time.
Except the Arbiter will review Arthas’s case, realized that he was put into the Maw without his content, and then determine that Arthas can be risen to Revendreth. Sylvanas’ head is left alone for all eternity.
Part of me still suspects that the jailor (or one of his agents) snatched her directly to the maw before she got anywhere near the arbiter to trick her into thinking she was going to be stuck there for eternity. Then he could ‘oh so generously’ offer her a partnership to keep her out of it if she agreed to work with him. In a way it would be a nice twist of irony…the jailor and Mueh’zala tricked Vol’jin into appointing her warchief, so if she herself had been tricked when she’s so smug about tricking and manipulating other people…
