To my knowledge as well, the topic of arranged marriage isn’t explored in any considerable detail by official / canon sources. But that can also be said about many other things where Blizzard is concerned.
Even some things that really ought to be canonized, established and well-explained in Blizzard’s world building still goes lacking to this day. But creating our own headcanon and blazing our own trails are the leeway that we all have as WoW roleplayers, even if it’s just a “happily accidental” side effect of that lacking!
I’m not sure how familiar you are with our Debate Series (or Colloquium, for that matter!) but that’s part of the function (and presumably, appeal) of these events; we provide a forum for people who would like to share, present and debate their personal IC views with others of like and opposite minds!
While I cannot speak for our friends in Academia, our debaters’ current game plan is not to name specific races, cultures and nations who practice now or have ever practiced arranged marriage.
The intent has been to focus on the practice itself and, as the topic states, its viability in a modern day Azeroth! After all, Azeroth and her people have experienced constant and monumental changes over the course of mere years, which has in turn seen a significant IC change in the cultural climate of the in-game world. (I’d also venture a change in the RP community’s climate over the years, OOCly, but I digress! )
This comment itself sparked a tiny bit of “debate”! LOL Thank you for the feedback, regardless.
That being said…
