I think it’s more that policies can evolve over time. There was a lot of feedback that a week silence for a first offense was pretty stiff (I would agree, personally), so they may have dialed it back a bit.
Tacking on the “(which you agreed to)” part isn’t really necessary. That’s just going to make people upset because it creates a kind of snide perception… but yeah I’m sure we all get that.
My point is my statement was so PG-13 and harmless that I didn’t even realize it was inappropriate. Now I know
If it was PG-13 you wouldn’t have received a suspension. I’m with you my friend but really just take a look at how you’re communicating with others. Embrace kindness, even when you get riled up in a dungeon or a BG or whatever it may be.
I wish you a safe, happy and healthy New Year my friend.
You know, it doesn’t need to contain profanity to be a breach. Even PG words, when said in a negative, disparaging light will trip you up.
PG content can still be demeaning and insulting to other players.
The letter of the law does not trump the intention behind a comment.
To be clear, I just said “Birds of Prey” does a lot of damage when used right. Just in a different way. I was recommending that a fellow survival hunter try it out in arenas. Nothing rude or crazy. Everyone here assuming I was being demeaning or rude
Edit 1: I just googled the words that I thought I had just made up because of how it sounded. (I was trying to use creative way to say ALOT of damage). Turns out it’s a racial slur according to urban dictionary. How is that even a thing.
Edit 2: It also didn’t make any sense at all if you took it that way At least I don’t think it did.
Except that it wasn’t. It was huge news and lead to firings and lawsuits. That’s a mighty big rug if you ask me.
What I don’t agree with is saying that your actions must have been okay because look at how terrible these people were. Like, what?
The legal cases are still ongoing.
Employees involved have been removed, or severely reprimanded in the meanwhile.
But hey, it’s never going to be enough for some people I guess.
I’m happy with the changes Blizzard has made since, and will continue to play a game I enjoy - if you don’t like that, then that’s your problem. No, I don’t condone what happened either.
But it’s pathetic that some players willingly throw this out as an argument to justify all the time when they have been caught up in account action.
Sounds awfully two-faced, on the players part, to me.
Untrue. A common misundrstanding though. The GAME is rated PG-13 or T. That is content Blizzard makes that does not change and can be reviewed by a ratings panel.
Players create content in real time that can’t be reviewed - so player content (names and chat) are not rated. Instead it has to go by the game company rules.
Blizzard rules for all games are the same, regardless of game rating. Players are expected to follow essentially a G rated family friendly chat in public groups and chats.
What you do in private with friends who don’t report you is your business.
They have had the same rules since 2004. No they did not have the robust reporting systems back then that they do now, but they did suspend and ban people then as well - for language even.
With regard to some staff being horrible. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Old saying but true. That does not justify players getting away with bad behavior. Those who enforce that stuff were not the ones implicated in the bad conduct - and the ones who were got fired or forced to quit. Some may even face legal repercussions.
Pretty simple. Follow the rules we agreed to - save the colorful language for private groups with friends who won’t report you.
Uh, you implied it or you wouldn’t have even mentioned it.
“policing” and “crime”? More like violations of rules and account actions. Totally different. Blizzard’s sandbox and their rules. Don’t like them, don’t play in Blizzard’s sandbox.
I don’t believe that for a second as it doesn’t violate any rules. However, I can imagine the conversations that stemmed from such nonsense and those likely WOULD have been inappropriate.
Again, we agree to follow different rules than Blizzard is legally required to follow. No hypocrisy, just people who don’t understand how rules work.
Ahh the ignorance between the players code of conduct, and the ratings system the games abide by, more like it.
Going to doubt that. There are very few vegans, and even fewer in WoW. Discussing a BBQ is not an issue at all. I have spent hours over the years talking food in Trade with folks. Good fun.
GMs review the reports. The only way to get an account action like a long Silence or Suspension is if a GM agrees based on logs. “I am making smoked brisket this weekend” is not going to get someone suspended.
See my post above. Yes, there are two different rating and rule systems. You don’t get to do what Blizzard can do with their pre-programmed and approved content.
Why? Because if the speed limit is 30, people will do 40 or 45. If it is 50, they do 55 or 60.
The players are set to 30 so when the exceed it hopefully it is minor. They want people to get the point that we are playing with people of all ages and backgrounds in public chats and groups. Keep it family friendly in those.
Funny thing about the so called claim about abusing the report feature its been proved time and time again that the reports are usualy founded and its also been stated that if theres a history of false reports they will be actioned.
Probably best to leave the thread and let the mods handle it. Getting into a posting war won’t end well for all parties involved.
A warning though isn’t the same as a silence or suspension. If there’s no rules broken then nothing happens.
Warnings are cumulative.
Warnings aren’t, silence and suspension are.
That’s actually really clever. I can’t believe I never realized that before.
So? You are upset you cannot run your mouth because Blizzard has a couple of naughty words in their game?
You do know they get in some serious trouble for doing that. Especially with this age of videoing everything they do. People have been fired for doing this. If you see a cop doing this, get the car number and report it. Not a good analogy. Or are you one of those that think “Hey this officer is shady, so the whole entire force is culpable” type?
Denaco - even after having it explained to you - you are still confused over the ratings system and the player code of conduct?
Well good thing you’ve cancelled and taking that chip on your shoulder elsewhere.
BTW - plenty of other games are getting tough on in-game penalties too. Just a heads up.
