The talent called Incarnation: Tree of Life by the way.

We’re talking about two different things here your trying to say they lost talent, which is what happened. However, they still can look like a tree if they want to, which is what my point is.

Two separate situations. I am not arguing that they lost those abilities. My point is they can still be trees with a tome.

It’s the same difference that exists between the Alchemy, Engineering, and Enchanting professions. Which anyone can do.

If a Hunter can craft and attach an explosive to an arrow without the Engineering skill, then a Hunter can enchant arrows without the Enchanting skill.

Purchased power is a terrible look. Surely, this is not the case.

A “Dark Ranger” could have Exotic Munitions and specialize in traps. We need a spec focused on traps, trickery, and special ammo. There is no conflict there. There is, however, a conflict between Explosive Shot and Black Arrow.

Here’s how I would do it.

Black Arrow - Reuse Flayed Shot with the Razor Fragments legendary. Resets on target death. Still procs Killshot.

Killshot

Death Chakram - Main focus dump.

Cobra Shot - Secondary spender. Refreshes Serpent Sting.

Serpent Sting

Frozen Arrow - Builder. 30% slow. 1.5s cast. 6s cooldown. 40% chance to reset cooldown and make the next cast instant.

Multishot - With Serpent Spread passive

Spiderling Trap - Improved Tar trap. Releases a spray of webs and spider hatchlings that poison snared enemies. (Think Snake trap plus Tar trap)

Fury of the Spider Queen - Big Cooldown. Summons a giant spider that poisons and slows all nearby enemies. Has a small chance to Horrify poisoned targets (Inflict Arachnaphobia). Grants an greatly increased chance to proc Black Arrow Killshots.

Camouflage - Baseline

Misdirection: Friendly Fire - Forces enemies to fight each other for a very short time. Can’t be cast in combat. More of pre-pull ability.

Disengage: Decoy - Disengage leaves behind a low health Decoy that taunts all nearby enemies. Releases a Spiderling Trap on death.

I admit, I could’ve worded it better, but there’s a difference between the potency of what you can do through professions, and what there is when you look at things like class/spec abilities. In most cases, what you get from professions equates to mere trinkets, in comparison.

Hiring people to help you, in this case, by having someone infusing arrows/bullets with magical properties, it’s not exactly uncommon. You can run into this in most fantasy settings, in one way or another.

Heck, if you look at the starting experience, the new island we got with Shadowlands, the quest chain for hunters where we learn to make traps, it literally involves us seeking help from a nearby NPC to infuse the mechanical trap with frost magic. So why would it be such a stretch to do so, in order to have access to other types of magic as well?

Nothing in lore, or the history of Dark Rangers in general, supports this. Unless you look back to before they actually became Dark Rangers.

Ofc they “can” do those things. My point was more that it would be better to make Dark Rangers their own fantasy, and thus, class option, as it’s portrayed in-game.

What conflict?

Fair enough, although, keep in mind that only Black Arrow in that list adheres to the fantasy and lore of Dark Rangers.

And again, keep in mind that a central part of the Dark Ranger fantasy involves the fact that one has to die, and then be resurrected into undeath. You could ofc skip this, but then…it wouldn’t really be about Dark Rangers anymore, would it? If all there is, is Black Arrow.

It was fun to lose the free damage and bonus utility of poisons? Huh, who knew?

The original form was literally just a flat +healing%. Oh and it actually made you run slower. It literally had no rotational impact. It was literally “be in this form to do a small % more healing.” When tree form came back as a cosmetic glyph/tome it was literally the same model and even still provides polymorph immunity. The only difference is that it no longer hinders run speed and doesn’t have the small +healing% aura. The actual utility of the old talent got moved into the new tree form talent as a CD.

I’m saying its hypocritical to allow Hunters to augment projectiles by some means and not others.

Enchanting arrows isn’t as elaborate as you make it seem. You don’t have to be some God-tier mage to perform a basic enchantment.

It takes a basic understanding of magic to use magic. Which Hunters do have. Excluding magic from Hunters hurts the class more than helps it.

No, you’re probably right about that. That still doesn’t make it good design.

Hunters are the only ranged weapon class in the game. We’re different enough without unnecessary restrictions.

They are portrayed as Hunters in game. They are in our Class Hall. They are Hunters so they can’t be a separate class.

That’s by design. It’s exactly half of the race / class combo you need to make a real Dark Ranger. You have to strip racial abilities out so it’s not exclusive. Its the same way they made the original 9 classes. We’ve already covered this…

Its about as close as you can get without excluding other races.

its still not the same thing

cool and MM is RSV since it has explosion shot so

“personally at this point, everyone just needs to get over what it was, if they dont like what it is dont play it. Just shut up about it its old its annoying its tiresome. Play something else. As an old druid main you dont hear me complaining about resto losing tree form. Its always annoyed me to no end how much the wow community complains about literally anything and everything. just my op”

“the thousands of resto druids who lost their true tree forms a decade ago would like to talk to you”

“it was actual class identify removed for a talent option. A cosmetic doesn’t rescue that. The glyph doesn’t even do the same thing the original form did. You lost this one already homie. Like, no point in going further than this because anything else you spew out will just be squirming to attempt at a point.”

“its still not the same thing”

Sure alot of ranting about old tree form that add nothing other than a small healing buff. It gone and the few that still want it back are such a small minority that the devs be wasting time with it. Just get the Tome and you can pretend that it back problem solved.

im not ranting about it. im making a point. You may not have the lights turned on upstairs to figure that out but Its what I expect from forum posters at this point.

 Poor little Toxi lost a useless talent. Going use all that salt on my popcorn.

It’s also important to recognise that, whatever your opinion on resto tree form is, permanent tree form v.s. cooldown only doesn’t represent any loss in capability or major change to a spec’s goal and intended audience. It amounts to a cosmetic debate. It’s utterly incomparable to what happened with Survival.

But it was poor little Toxi so it’s a big deal, really trust me

Bepples check this out:

Even Toxi agrees SV was never a melee spec.

…Umm… dude… I might be lost for words at how empty minded you are… just wow…

LOL um no. I swear the amount of mental gymnastics you pull off for literally any topic is truly something to marvel at. This is what happens when you get your diploma from a drive through window

Tell Survival hunters that loosing range is not issue cause they can go play MM, but looses a talent and “IT NOT THE SAME”. Man you are on some strong stuff to even at like a talent is a bigger issue.

Must be on a spectrum. Il leave you a number to call to get that worked out if you like

the change to an ability apposed to a spec being melded into another spec that was almost the exact same spec are different things. Try and keep up scooter. also, we never lost range. Just not forced to use bows anymore but hey

I am going to help you out with this. I will go make a Druid named Toxitree then get the Tome, and then sit all day on the Druid forms crying about bring back “true tree form”. Maybe I can get the sympathy of some dev to get it back. #BRINGBACKOLDTREEFORM.
