The main reason is simply so you can dismiss the person when they don’t want to spend 4 hours dredging up sources on google.

Or so I can explain how his reasoning is wrong if he takes the 30 seconds to cite raiderio and draws his conclusion. Why would it take 4 hours?

But you already knew the numbers. So you could have conceded that point, like I did, and explained why he was misinterpreting the numbers, like I did.

I actually don’t know the numbers he’s using until I see his source, and I have no intention of taking the time to shoot down an argument he’s too lazy to make.

But instead you insisted he show numbers that you already knew, with the intention of wasting his time. Classic tactic, very easy to spot.

It’s not wasting his time to expect him to put in the minimal effort of substantiating his point, especially when his point is wrong. Expecting someone to cite sources and reasoning is completely reasonable in order to find the exact error being made instead of being forced to guess where it might be. Does he actually have the wrong numbers? Is he misinterpreting them? In which way? Again, this is basic discourse procedure.
