… I seriously wonder how folks on these forums would actually react if they tried to do one of those old Machinima animation contests. Of course nowadays it would be full of AI slop for submissions, but I seriously wonder how folks on these forums would react to an animation contest of old nowadays.

If you don’t want to support content creators, that’s fine. But I don’t get the serious levels of apprehension if not outright hostility folks show for content creators.

Well, for one, most of the popular content creators are considered notorious at this point

And, for two, a lot of us dont regularly engage with streamers and this “forces” us too.

But I think your original suggestion would be well recieved. A little “Love Death and Robots” competition WoW style would be amazing

Livestreamers and content creators are toxic. I won’t support any of them and their cringe behavior. Livestreamers and content creators are overrated, over powered, and literally does nothing to earn money and popularity. They are the definition of losers. And also since blizzard only listens to them and not the community as a whole is why I’m never coming back to play WoW besides raider io and dps meters being added in and the game. 764 online gang that many are a part of too. Then there’s hypocrisy and double standards too. Wow content creators/livestreamers don’t get banned for severe rule violations but instead normal people do and normal people also get the blame.

But the point of these types of events is to get people to explore and find communities to have fun with. If folks opt to support the most popular content creators then… you are supporting 'em, so that’s on your head?

I genuinely don’t think folks would react like that. Considering that a good few of the original Machinima animation contests from back during Cataclysm are still active content creators.

This is the part that just makes me wonder whether folks would actually care or not. Because seriously, if folks would want more stuff like that then one should want to engage with the people making that stuff to begin with surely.

But… people in these threads suggest the exact opposite. Of course these forums represent an absolutely tiny and minuscule portion of the playerbase, so it likely wouldn’t matter by and large for players in general. But I do wonder about the people on these forums because I honestly don’t think folks would be happy hearing about a contest like that, not judging by how apprehensive folks are towards content creators folks are.
