Super Mario Bros Movie Thread

This is a thread to talk about the Super Mario Bros movie. Please share your thoughts on Pratt Mario and Its Always Sunny in Luigi

I haven’t seen it yet

Does it teach sound moral lessons like Captain Lou did

Heard it was fun and cool, but not good.

I liked it, though I wonder if it in time will be seen like the Warcraft movie. Great for fans, but kind of a mid-movie for general audiences.

A ‘mid-movie’, lol.

Is that what we call terrible movies now?

Crisp rats?

I though this was the Bowser movie?

One of the most interesting phenomena online recently is learning just how big the world is outside of my online communities. This movie was dreaded and reviled by what seemed like all of social media and then it came out and did really, really well.

Are we so out of touch?

I personally have not seen it. But surrounded by movie critical people? A lot of them thought it was really good. And a really nice tribute. I cannot wait to see it.

It didn’t seem reviled on social media from what I saw, except for maybe some Chris Pratt hate.

I haven’t seen it, don’t feel compelled to, will wait for a fan edit where the Italian, Japanese and other language versions are spliced together. I want Mario speaking Italian and I don’t want subtitles.

I saw it and loved it. So much so that my bf wants to take us to see it again lol.

My original complaint was that Peach was shaping up to be too “boss b” in my eyes, which is understandable because role model for girls and stuff (I am lady too,) which -is-pretty dope though in its own right though. I definitely would not have wanted her a purshover of course, but from the previews I was worried that I wouldnt be able to really “get into” the movie, so to speak, because of how I was nervous of how she was portrayed.

That was just a personal thing though, which quickly faded as she interacted with the other characters, which was impeccable and really fit quite nicely.

So, as a professional Smash Bros Peach main, :peach: / 10

(Thats a ten out of ten. Peach’s back air = :100:)

I’ll probably see it next weekend.

I don’t give a damn about the Crispy Rat and his terrible attempt at Faux-Italian accent.

Gimme the legend that is Jack Black hogging the screen as Bowser!

I liked that part of the movie where Jack Black sings the best song in the world referenced in Tribute by Tenacious D.

I actually would recommend it if you like Mario. It had a lot of cute Mario musical cues for certain parts, and the voice acting was actually on point. Chris Pratt did a good enough job, even if it’s hard to really hear him beyond being Chris Pratt, but it wasn’t bad enough for me that I was taken out of the movie. Jack Black absolutely nailed it as Bowser.

It was just a fun movie. I went in not expecting anything, thinking it’d be a funny movie to laugh about with my sister. And instead I laughed at the jokes and had a good time watching the Mario world in a fun, vibrant animation on the big screen. The story wasn’t genre defining, but it’s a Mario movie lmao.

(Plus if it does well maybe one day I’ll be able to see Twilight Princess as a movie with a mute Link protagonist that focuses on his body expression in place if dialogue o.o)

The most critical thing I saw and can get behind was inserting random top 10 pop songs that studio is known for doing. Which took away from the already good Mario music sound track.

I probably won’t see it for awhile but definitely something my friends and I plan to put on our movie night list.

I think social media is extraordinarily well-designed to make it appear that one is viewing the total consensus of capital-E Everybody when that is not at all true.

Okay, I admit it, I should have seen the Mario movie instead of D&D : Honor Amongst Thieves.

Gatt Dangus, but Jack Black is a gift.

Personally I really liked the D&D movie, not a masterpiece but it was everything a D&D movie needed to be and I was satisfied. I haven’t seen the Mario movie yet, no spoils.

The Mario movie works for me pretty well, I’ve seen it multiple times (but that’s because I work at a theater and get free tickets).

It is very clearly marketed towards families, kids, and fans of the series, and does not try to pretend otherwise. If you do not fall into one of those categories you will have mixed results.

Just not in Star Wars apparently.

I’ve decided to wait until it comes to a streaming service I already own to see it. It’s an Illumination film, so I think it’s gonna not really be Terrible but definitely not something I feel any burning need to pay money to see.

My strongest feelings about the movie are just general feminist discoursing about the Girlboss Syndrome and even then I’m more ready to fight Disney about it than Illumination. And even then, I’ve kinda accepted that children’s movies are always by their nature going to adhere to shallower stereotypes. There are outliers, sure, but these are typically shows, not movies.
