Hello everyone. Boosted a rogue to 60 today after not playing rogue for years. I am liking it so far but I can’t decide if outlaw or sub makes more sense for mythic plus. My gameplay is likely 90% mythic plus and 10% casual pvp. I know it likely doesn’t matter since I don’t plan on doing super high keys just curious what is putting out more dps? Thanks I’m advance!
In low - mid keys you will probably do more damage as Outlaw than you will as sub because most tanks will probably be afraid to pull more than a pack or two small packs at a time. Though Outlaw isn’t just press Blade Flurry and win either you still need to understand how the class works whereas Sub is either Shadowstrike Evis spam or Shuriken Storm / Black Powder spam (You can also ShS Evis spam in AoE but it doesn’t matter in low keys). If you want to truly play Outlaw optimally you’ll need to also use mouseover macros because if you swap off your Ghostly / BTE target you will lose a significant amount of damage.
You should also consider gear because while Outlaws best weapons come from the raid (Veinripper and Sylv Dagger) you can still farm Plaguefalls for two Poxstorm swords. Sub on the other hand pretty much depends on having Sylvanas daggers and the higher the keys you do the more value they gain.
This isn’t to say you can’t do high keys as Outlaw it’s just the higher you go the more you fall off because while you’re hardcapped at 5 targets that Windwalker over there is just going to spin in circles and do 80k dps because Blizzard has no idea how to balance their game.
Next tier though the tier set for Sub is pretty much going to get rid of its only weakness which is 2-3 target cleave. You only need one extra target to fully refund your combo points should the tier set proc.

I can’t with good conscience recommend outlaw. We are still AoE capped and next tier is looking bleak with our tier set. It takes 5x the effort to play over sub AND is RNG at the end of the day. Only play it if you just really like it or because it’s impossible for you to get daggers…stupid sylvanas.

This^^. If you play outlaw you will only loot daggers. If you pick sub, nothing but swords
Try setting your loot spec. Can’t get swords as sin or sub loot spec

With outlaw being aoe capped still, sub. In high keys, night terror slow and Shuriken torpedo are great with crippling poison. You can funnel combo points from SS into eviscerate on priority targets or you could roll the bones and be trolled.

I meant if I’m playing outlaw I get alot of mastery gear and sub always procs haste gear lul
I have a couple of 252 vers/mastery pics that I dont wear because my other gear sims higher
So what you are saying is he should play Outlaw until he is 440+ ilevel and when he’ll be geared for Sub and be able to switch? 
How does the set bonus solve cleave for sub?
A 20-24% chance to hit nearby targets with a single shadow strike every finisher is great in ST or AoE but it still seems kinda meh for cleave.
I think it’s less about solving cleave and more about just being completely busted. You basically just drown in oodles of combo points resulting in perma dance and perma shadow blades. Even just one additional target can result in a significant boost of combo points.
Do we know that it generates combo points? I thought there was concern it might work like akariis and echo damage without echoiing cp.
I’ve been seeing very high uptimes in keys of dance and sblades. So if the procs aren’t giving CP they are at least proccing the t2 bonus randomly. I haven’t personally watched any of the videos on it because I’m kinda over wow right now. 20 silv kills without seeing a single dagger does something to you…
For more accurate info I recommend checking out the sub channel on the rogue discord. What I am talking of is only word of mouth and shouldn’t be taken as factual without more support.

Edit: from the ravenholdt pins; the big gain is from the SB procs giving more combo over time; 4p does generate combo points and works with akarri and generates extra combo if shadow blades is active. Blizzard feels the set is overtuned and intends to nerf.
so as you said, the set bonus doesn’t really add much cleave, but cleave does create much higher ST damage.

EDIT: I posted this right after your reply. Well at least we found the same info.
I looked into it and yeah the 4 set is giving combo points (stacks with blades) AND procs the 2 set bonus on each one.
So yes the idea is that while your cleave isn’t really buffed it’s just that you have perma dance and blades carrying you through it, then the next pack you insta reset your cds with the flood of CP resulting in no downtime.
If this is confirmed Holy *ish… if you plan on playing sub you better raid. No question.
