Struggling with these Covenants

Well yeah, pvp is a different story. Though warriors have made due without a root before. I think it’ll be a fantastic tool to have for pvp. But I think a beefy anti plate class execute will be really nice too. It’s personal preference, what you want out of your class.

Agreeing that Kyrian is BiS for Arms PVP while stating it will not hold you back from achieving a certain rating, is a contradiction. At a certain rating, it WILL hold you back from outperforming other players.

You are welcome to believe that. But I really don’t think it’s that clear cut.

Yes, but now imagine that the majority of warriors you face DO have a root. This makes you less desirable and less effective in comparison. Yes skill is involved, but when you have two players of similar skill, that utility is an important determining factor in who wins.

It seems your concern is with maintaining the status quo of a meta. But you have stated you love kyrian. You’re all set.

But to give you an idea, Bajheera, a multi glad arms warrior picked night Fae. An “off meta” pick.

I think it’s more important to pick what you like, instead of picking what the ultra top 1 percent of players think should be picked. Because if you’re having fun, you’ll play better, or try harder because you’ll be having more fun.

Ultimately though, there should be no “punishment” for switching covenants. It’s a dumb restriction causing way too many headaches for people excited about cool stuff in their game.

It’s not that I’m concerned with the meta, it’s that I enjoy using each ability in different aspects of the game.

Can’t agree more. This restriction is what my issue is with. I love each ability, and I’d prefer to use one in PVE and one in PVP. Hence my frustration with the covenant system.

I’m really enjoying my time with venthyr. I don’t regret choosing them. But I really wish I could experience the story of kyrian. I’ll have to get an alt up.

Main reason I didn’t pick kyrian is I played a lot of legion, and I had already done the “eternal battle haven” thing. But the lore of kyrian is fascinating.

Ah, the most valuable resource. Anecdotes.

That is called playing past your skill level which is what covenants are suppose to do. Help you perform above your level of skill.

We are agreeing here, you just don’t realize we are.

How do you figure? Condemn has a damage reduction component and opens up several talent combos.

I assumed it was appealing due to ignoring armor, and having the added benefit of giving you a teleport on cooldown.

I hate to say, but I’m even more annoyed with the content locking system. I predominantly play this game to experience content, and it is to my eternal frustration that I am essentially forced for gameplay bonuses to be stuck in eyebleed Bastion with unbearable, humorless NPCs.

It’s literally my least favorite zone and the progression so far has been worse than I thought. Uther has no personality. It’s a pitiful shame to see an iconic character reduced to this mess. No payoff in this zone.

Forsworn have no personality. Kyrian have no personality. Commensurate NPCs. I can see where the story is going at Renown 4 and I don’t see a positive trajectory. More of the same.

To top it off, Kyrian xmogs are hideous eyesores.

I just can’t take those things over dungeon and raid gameplay though. Just can’t. It’s a profoundly unpleasant experience all the same and I’m quite aggravated.

The renown system and it’s weekly gating far and away make swapping Covenants pretty noxious. I’d like to see a catchup system in place if at some point I decide I tire of the overbright blue people zone.

RPGs are supposed to be about choices and character building, this was not a choice. I was just fed a bunch of wonky Covenant abilities, frankly, none of which really appeal to me. There are virtually no viable Conduit choices in each category, forcing you to select the one or two optimal Conduits.

Even the legos only have one or two appealing selections for each spec.

False choices for days and weeks.

I can assure you that at Renown 5 there is nothing in the Kyrian lore of value so far and no positive in sight. If you expected anything from Uther, dispense with it now. They did him dirty.

It’s not like the cinematic.

I feel the same way. To make matters worse I am also torn between Night Fae and the others. I tried out Night Fae for Ancient Aftershock and really love it. It’s amazing in AOE packs in Mythics and it’s actually surprisingly strong in PVP as long as you have a healer. Being able to get a whole team knocked on their asses while you finish off a straggler is pretty fun. But I’m considering switching to either Venthyr or Kyrian. It’s really annoying compared to something like DK where one covenant is good for everything. I appreciate the choices and think it’s very cool to have multiple viable covenants but the game would be way more fun for me if I could have both condemn and either spear or aftershock. I honestly don’t know what to do. And I have to decide tonight before the reset.

One thing to think about though, is the combination of Mortal Combo with Unhinged is amazing in PvP and pretty competitive in PvE. However only Venthyr and Night Fae get a viable potency conduit pathway early on. If you go potency on Kyrian you lose the upgraded Phial and get a useless ability, which is pretty damn big. So you may just want to stick with Venthyr. If you go Mortal Combo on Night Fae you also lose the 15 second CDR on Ancient Aftershock which makes it a 1.5 min CD which is just too much. Something to think about.

Also I have yet to test Door of Shadows 6 second disorient. May be helpful in PvP if say you get rooted, you can Door over to the team and disorient them all during the root duration. I dunno.

I’m honestly having a blast with the Fae in pvp. It’s almost as if you have 2 executes which one is a knockdown that doesn’t get affected with a stunning DR so I could easily pump out 13k dmg in a matter of 2 gcds along with another mobility with a decent self heal with the right soulbind. I mean looking like groot is a huge plus on its own haha.

And this is why talents should be removed outright.
Fun abilities made baseline.

Right now, decision matrix:

Class > Covenant > Context
… > Specialization > Talents > Gear
(Talents include Soulbind)
(Gear includes Legendary)

Is that so different from:

Class > Covenant > Context
… > Specialization > Gear
(Specialization now includes Soulbind)

Talents should just be rolled into the specialization and removed as a system. There’s no need to incorporate “loadout” factors into an MMORPG, except through gear. Besides the way they have been designed, implemented, and iterated for the past 8 years has been specifically to funnel the loadouts required for your “M+ build” your “Raid build” and your “PvP build”. Otherwise, Storm Bolt would be baseline by now.

Thank you for coming to my TEDx Talk.
