Struggling with mechanics?

So I really want to get into raiding as I really never have….the problem I have is I often struggle with seeing the mechanics of boss fights.

Perhaps its my age or perhaps its so much going on on the screen its hard for me to “read” it.

any tips?

DBM is a great addon to have. And get plater for better nameplates

Came back from leaving early MoP at the very end of TWW. I got AotC last season.

Here’s what I’ve been doing:

  1. Delves for individual practice and gear. You’ll see many of effects, but less of them and generally at a slower speed than raiding. This is especially good at reacclimating to interrupts, general “bad” spells, etc.
  2. M+ with an established group - partly for the same reasons as above, but now with more people and more stuff going on. These scale, so 2-5 may not be overwhelming, but 10+ may be.
  3. LFR intermixed with the above to start to see the exact mechanics. You can repeat these (no real reward after the first time) for practice.

Most raid mechanics have a mix of the following:

  • Stack to soak
  • Move/avoid the floor bad
  • Interrupt this one bad ability
  • Play this mini micro game while doing the fight (timing usually matters here)
  • Use your mitigation/CD at this time

Addons have been hit, so their usefulness can be limited. Many people watch videos, read, and take notes. And practice over and over and over. It does eventually get easier.

One other popular mechanic: take that debuff away from the group so that when it drops a puddle of bad, the puddle is in the correct place (at the edge, or positioned for use in a later mechanic, etc.) or so that when it does damage in a area of effect, you’re not nuking your raid mates.
