I finished watching the first Presidential debate between Biden and Trump.
I think I need a drink.
Actually, never mind. Give Chris Wallace the drink. In fact give him the whole bottle. Poor man looked like he was going to face desk through the other side of the planet a couple of times.
Bad would be a bit of an understatement. Neither Trump or Biden came across particularly well in my opinion though I will give Biden credit for at least attempting to be civil at times. The moderator, Chris Wallace, didn’t hold back with questions for either of them. But the answer sessions were more like squabbling Junior High kids then two presidential candidates. With Trump attempting to talk over everyone to drown out the debate and Biden resorting to insults either out of frustration or because he couldn’t think of anything else to do. If they do another debate the news networks should insist on strict debate rules just to allow the moderator a chance to look like something other than a teacher with no option to send unruly children to detention.
But, knowing that most of the policies that affect my day-to-day life happen somewhere between the mayor and governor levels, all the furor reminds me of those people that only watch football during the Super Bowl. Or the ones that only care about sports during the Olympics.
I do my best to follow politics because I am working to be hired as a history and government teacher and I try to avoid showing up to class one day and saying I have no idea what you’re talking about. But you’re right most people only follow the horse race and ignore local politics. And a mayor or governor will have more impact on the day to day lives of citizens than the President (usually). That said, this is an election to keep an eye on because it will have an impact people’s lives.
Now onto a happier topic, several job openings for teachers are coming up where I live so I’m making applications and keeping my fingers crossed. Wish me luck.
Does the idea of watching two senile old men without their earpieces try to “debate?”
This is also a huge problem in this country, and utterly frustrating. The last thing we need is the executive branch getting ever more power because the idiots think the only way to solve things is to give one person more power.
They showed a snippet of it on Nine News, it was a glorious train wreck. Trump was about as juvenile as I expected him to be. No respect at all for anyone else.
What’s up with all the bait threads recently? We’ve always had at least some, but for the past month it’s been feeling more and more like General Discussion in here.
Story’s bad quality aside, I think it has something to do with a recent churn in the subforum’s community. I’ve noticed a lot of newer users coming in all at once and I think that’s shifting the overall vibe of the place.
It used to be the same here, and it was great. But it’s so one-sided now, that it’s not all that funny anymore. Which sucks, because Biden is every bit the goldmine of gaffes and memes Trump is.
More people coming back for Shadowlands would be my guess. Though it seems to be the same couple of people over and over again.
