They absolutely are. They think implementing plots that engender discontent from the players is making us feel as uncertain about the story as these characters do about the outcome of the war. They think they’re engrossing us, but they’re actually repelling us.
It bothers me a little hearing them disrespect the Horde’s MoP arc like that. I mean sure, it had its problems, but to say it failed in conveying a message and thus bears repeating is just frustrating. Sounds like an excuse for being shameless enough to recycle MoP’s entire premise.
So, they did just admit to this being MoP 2.0, right? And they said sometimes characters have to pay for their decisions. It seems to me that Sylvie is headed for being a raid boss. Which is just incredibly original, I know. Amazing writing.
What damage? The stream didn’t even have half the number of viewers (before people started leaving) that the normal QA streams have. Nowhere near enough people care about the lore for this to be a big enough deal to require damage control.
They also “Remember: sometimes bad things happen to good people.” which makes me feel like they’re going to just hit us harder with the villain bat to do evil things to pure innocent Alliance characters.
After all, they indirectly justified Teldrassil as “war is heck!” despite it being the thing that started the war.
And THEN, because THIS story was poorly received, that will be their excuse to do MoP 3.0 two expacs down the line, because “I just don’t think we’ve really explored this idea of the Horde’s identity to a satisfactory degree yet. Are they noble but misunderstood warriors fighting to survive in a hostile world? Or are they savage evil genocidal maniacs? WE AREN’T SURE EITHER! MoP 3.0 COMIN’ RIGHT UP!!!”
