Store mounts. Good? Bad? Why?

How you doin’, eh? Winks suggestively

If everyone thinks they’re bad, why does Blizzard make more? They wouldn’t bother if they didn’t sell.

I contend that’s because of the store and token, not in spite of it. Do you really think that in light of decreasing subs Blizz would have been able to keep the servers lit without some other revenue source?? Now I agree that the store without the token is bad. But with it EVERYTHING in the store is actually available via in game activities. :see_no_evil::hear_no_evil::speak_no_evil:

Wtf… is that name a reference to p0rn actors?

I stayed subbed during 6 months of Pathfinder spitegate because I just had to get the pirate ship. THEN I found out it didn’t have WW (stupid me, I didn’t due my research) and I honestly haven’t used it once. :speak_no_evil::hear_no_evil::see_no_evil:

That right now they cost around 200k gold. Technically a bit less, but you’re still going to have to buy 2 tokens to get one. So not too bad, considering there are several vendor mounts that cost more than that.

Wonder Woman? Wet Wallabies? Wide wheels?

I hate them but I get why they exist - they generate a lot of revenue that supports other development. I wish there was another way to earn them in game - and yes I am aware you can go gold -> bnet balance, but the rate gets so bad (like right now) that it’s not worth it.

The top 2 mounts I use are store mounts, why? Because they are actual mounts I wanted, not just another “Oh that is fancy” that simply dropped for me.

Wriggling Wombats of course!!

If they’re bad I don’t want them and don’t care like the hundreds of other mounts in the game I somehow have but never ride. If they’re cool though I might buy one. Haven’t bought any yet but who knows if they will add something I will want?

I don’t see any harm in them in spite of everything I’ve read about why I should hate them.

I own a few, but not even close to the number of in game mounts I have collected, lol
I love the sparkle-pony my kids bought me for mothers day when it first came out, years ago. So many good memories attached to it. My favourite in store mount is the new beautiful blue fox mount my husband bought me on our anniversary.

Would 10 / 10 buy another store mount.

I always felt odd like I wasted Gold on it… but it doesn’t affect my gameplay so I’m fine with 'em.

since they aren’t pay to win or anything they are not bad. if they inherently came with faster flying or allowed something unique to them (inherent water walking, picking herbs/mining) then they would be bad. but right now they are just another skin you can get for mounts.

When sparkle pony first came out it actually did impact on the game. My game, anyway. At the time mounts cost a lot in game. And having a store mount that could fly saved a lot of time an effort on every alt grinding the gold to be able to afford them.

These days it’s entirely cosmetic. And also expensive. If there was one I particularly liked I might get it, but I’d have to like it a lot.

For a game we pay a monthly fee for it bothers me they sell things like that. As long as people are foolish enough to buy them though they will continue to sell them.

Foolish? I enjoy my store mounts every day. If its foolish to buy something I love and enjoy using in game gold, then Ok, I guess I’m foolish, but no more so over this than anything else I use in game gold for.

This is a really good point. It’s also really upsetting that they added the brutosaur mount which has a cool, unique model in-game, and it’s going away in SL.

That said, I don’t necessarily mind store mounts, I just personally can’t justify spending $25 on them. I’ve bought the pets, especially when they were for charity, and I’ve asked for them for my birthday, but any other pet I’ve only gotten on sale. I know that doesn’t make me innocent in the store-bought stuff.

If I were to ever break down to get a store mount (I’ve been tempted on a few), it’d definitely have to be on sale. I doubt that will happen though because I really don’t like the philosophy behind the store mounts (feels like corporate greed). I know that kind of makes me a hypocrite, but I can’t help it.

everyone has a take on this thing… the fact that wow doesn’t quite operate like some of those other mmo’s is a reason i like it. PAY TO WIN BLOWS. WoW does get that way with the more hardcore aspects of the game but for the most part its free of it. i like being able to acquire things by my ability to play the game rather then how well my IRL bank account is stacked. i’m a pathetic loser and i dont want this reality rubbed in my face while i’m trying to escape from the harshness of BLAH BLAH BLAH ORC SMASH

I think that they are fine. It’s super easy to get mounts now and the store mounts just look cool. They are not necessities to play this game or make it much more fun so there is no harm in them.
