does as Oversimplified did for French Revolution and ques loud drum-roll moment anyone tries to speak
There’s… probably… no point bothering to even say it, but I feel like being new to a certain environment doesn’t really give someone carte blanche to freely throw around phrases that are guaranteed to hurt someone.
And yet it’s a thing. Difficult remarks excused with “being new” or being younger. I once watched someone say some pretty sexist stuff and when I said “that’s pretty sexist stuff” I was treated to a chorus of “YOU LEAVE HIM ALONE HE’S JUST A LITTLE TINY NEW BABY OF 20 YEARS OLD.”
As if… a 20 year old isn’t accountable for saying sexist things. But alright.
A couple of questions come to my mind when faced with this sort of thing, namely:
- At exactly what age is he supposed to understand that sexism is bad?
And - If no one ever tells him that sexism is bad, how will he know?
Precisely. That was my counterargument. “So like, at what point is it okay to tell him what he’s saying is wrong?” Apparently never, lol.
Perhaps the age at which it stops being “He’s too young to know better!” is the age at which it becomes “This is just how our generation was raised!”
That’s how we end up with “missing stair” people.
