Stop removing portals

Pruning sucks. Who could have guessed?

Maybe because they are major hubs where people can level professions or do other in game business? Why, indeed.

I quit Overwatch and completely gave up on the devs for that game because they refused to communicate with the community and it felt like we were ignored. With the layoffs, communication has increased from Blues. For the time being, I’m going to be hopeful, and express my opinions. Could easily change quickly, but we will see what happens.

When I played my druid, I used to always hang around Moon Glade whenever I could not only because it’s a beautiful zone (despite being outdated), but because I had easy access to said beautiful zone.

On my monk in Legion, I would hang around and explore the Turtle Island for similar reasons.

If the portal to Moonglade got removed for whatever reason in the Druid Hall, why would I ever go there? I don’t on anything else since it’s so inconveniently far away, but I do on my druid since it can.

Just an example, but the world would not feel bigger with this change.

I think it’s great that Blizzard is finally taking a stand in favor of all of the nobody that ever said that the world is too small and too easy to traverse.

We’re an RP guild, so we hold events. (small, granted, but still) Some of us inhabit certain cities or nearby.

Other players, I know, make a living off of old mat collection, or rare farming, or old instance farming.

Non-Rp’ers might just like staying in a zone because that is their favorite expac.

There are many reasons, in an MMORPG, that you would be found often in older content.

OMG, because going to a place with portals is exactly like playing a mage who can port from anywhere. Are you serious with this?

Pet battles, achievements, mount farming, rep farming, transmog runs…

EXACTLY! When I get on a FP, especially in older zones where they take forever, I ALT+TAB and read/watch something else.

Well effictively, someone with a hearthstone can port from anywhere to anywhere so he’s right in that sense…

Bornakk, you seem to be making the assumption here that without portals, people who want to go someplace will still go there, despite the inconvenience. You assume they’ll now take all the extra time to travel to some now-out-of-the-way place and the world will feel larger. But, did you consider that instead they’ll just decide it’s not worth it and not go?

I can’t tell you how many times during the periods where caverns of time or even strathalholm were inconvenient to reach that I just decided it wasn’t worth traveling there to try and farm something. I’d think “Oh, I know I could do X” but then I realized getting to X would take longer than X and it drained all my enthusiasm.

Removing portals dosen’t make the world feel larger, it makes it feel smaller… constricting even.

FFXIV (yes i know, don’t @ me) has the ability to teleport to any zone, and yet all their cities feel alive. I think Ishgard is the only city on my server that isn’t constantly buzzing with player activity. And the world still feels large to me. Kugane and Doma feel like the other side of the world. Even Ishgard feels far away, even though it’s relatively close.

Also, just an aside: Stormwind has always been an annoying place to travel to. So much that I always go to Ironforge for the AH and other things. I mean, seriously, stormwind portals drop us off inside a magical room from which we then need to travel through a STARGATE and down a tower till we can finally mount up? Very frustrating.

Who wants an old, rehashed, broken world that has yet to see a face lift since Cataclysm to seem “bigger”?

How does it feel more “alive”?

New and dynamic content, invasions, even things to pursue is what makes the world bigger, not removing conveniences that players enjoyed to get away from the mess that we’re now being told is “alive and bigger”.

It does not make the world feel more alive. It makes it more obnoxious to get places.

More time spent traveling =/= More fun or more content. I dont want to spend 20 minutes on flight paths across a continent and a half that I’ve seen six hundred times before.

Put the portals back in. Cant even believe anyone thought this was a good idea.

This change is among the most stupid things they have done in this expansion. I do use every new dalaran portal almost every day, some worlds events are made less frustrating because the portals are there to reduce the amount of time you spend doing its dailies.

Go to classic servers if you want this crap to happen, I will not be depending of others just to shorten the traveling time when I have been using portals for years.

Someone on the WoW team clearly has a vendetta against easily traversing the game world. First the flying restrictions and now the portal removals.

Amazed the Dark Iron Mole Machine ever made it past whoever that person is.

You’re on the World of Warcraft forums. Many players here HATE the world. Just look at the flying threads. They don’t even want to spend 30 seconds riding on ground to a destination. Of course they don’t want a bigger world. If you could give some of these people a “Teleport to X/Y/Z coordinates at any time” option, they’d think it would be the best thing ever.

Why does this always seem to matter to you guys? I don’t care how big the world or how small it feels. Not sure what your rationale is for cutting us off from getting to older zones.

Won’t be long now before Activision starts charging us BNET balance to use in-game portals and calling it a “service”

Shhh… Don’t give them any ideas!

I understand that changes can throw people off a bit at first, but I also think they help keep the world of Azeroth feeling alive. When there are fewer portals, does the world feel a bit bigger to you? Do you like that? How difficult is it to get to the locations you mentioned without a direct portal (talking to everybody who isn’t a mage here  ) ?

I’m a mage, I’m fine with a general Portal Hub. Not fine with removing easy access to places like Caverns of Time. This is stupid, the players who would like something like this are going to be playing classic.

If I can’t get to Caverns of Time easily I won’t be spam running Dragon Soul on a bunch of alts, which means I’ll be playing less. I have several friends who will think the same way.

Honestly, I’m not super upset about putting the portals in the main cities. It’s kinda dumb, but whatever. I’m upset because they aren’t putting all the portals in the cities. I can’t believe enough people at Blizz thought it would be a good idea to completely remove some portal destinations that they’re actually going though with it. Every portal that exists now should still exist in the new portal rooms. Otherwise, this is just giving the bird to your players.
