Stop removing portals

What has this to do with portals?

I saw a troll under a portal once.

It’s a more blatantly obvious attempt at increasing time-played metrics than the attempted removal of flying and the introduction of Pathfinder. At the very least it looks like it’s an attempt to increase time-played metrics.

The best part is that Mage players cannot create portals to Caverns of Time or Karazhan, so the point that Mages can just offer portals to players in lieu of static portals is nonsense.

I also don’t see why the Legion Dalaran portals need to be locked to certain quests instead of always being available, other than the devs thinking they’re “too convenient” that is.

Also, about “removal of portals is no big deal because alternatives”, I still cannot find any way for level 120 Horde characters to quickly get to Blasted Lands on the PTR.

If there’s really going to be no instant teleport to Blasted Lands for Horde, than that means the quickest alternatives to get to southern Eastern Kingdoms on Horde characters are through Ratchet-to-Booty Bay by ship, the Shattrath portal and then flying through the Dark Portal from Outland side, the Twilight Highlands portal, and Swamp of Sorrows Mage portal.

There’s also the Vashj’ir portal, but it’s kind of far away from the coast of Eastern Kingdoms.

All that said, I think it would be fine if some areas retain their own portal rooms that contain portals not included in the faction capitals. I think making it more annoying for players to reach old content will just cause players to not bother doing it at all, which can result in less time played.

Then again some players will take the opportunity to make a mage to make money off people wanting ports.

Though there is other mages that want to be left alone and do there own stuff. Bad mechanics cause people to spam mages asking for portals is not a good game design.

Player: Can I get a portal?
Mage: No.
Player: Please I pay.
Mage: Leave me alone i’m not making portals right now.
Player: Come on please I need to go to this place.
Mage puts person on ignore list

Well, the CM isn’t asking because they want your input. The CM has been told to push a narrative that this change is fun, engaging, good for us, etc., and the CM’s job is damage control to try and placate our justified rage. Their job is to stifle dissent, not encourage it.

I guarantee Ion was told by the new and old CFO to increase the time it takes for us to do tasks, to make us sub longer, so they get more money out of us, and Ion’s told his CM, “If you don’t want to end up like Ythisens, you get out there and tow the company line. Sell this change.”

They’re not interested in your feedback. They only care about what upper management tells them to care about. This change was in the works months ago. They won’t change it until you all start voting with your wallet, and stop funding this nonsense.

Seriously, unsub, then come to the forum and write a post about it. Flood the general forums. Go get a new hobby (one that’s actually fun). Come back in 8.2 to grind for flying if you must, but at least rob them of the sub money they would have earned if you’d stayed here not having fun in the meantime.

It’s what I’m doing. Minus the coming back in 8.2. I’m just waiting for them to wake up. And I’m not playing Classic on principle that this current team didn’t make it. So I’m not giving money to a company that doesn’t get it.

So when are they going to wake up? When wow only has 10 players playing total?

Maybe. But at that point it’s too late and the damage has been done.

perhaps they should have used “please” in their first request.
…that’s not bad design, that’s bad manners.

Been here since early vanilla, and for the first time, I uninstalled the game before my sub ran out. They won’t wake up until they have a change of leadership, and that won’t happen for years to come.

Also, Classic is a sham. It will have sharding, loot trading… lots of small things that will simply make it dumbed-down retail. You want the best Classic experience? Set up your own private server, invite only a few real-life friends to do dungeons and raids with. Don’t give Activision-Blizzard any more money. They don’t deserve it.

Black Box testing is. Blizzard gets their user base to do it for free.

Also, if you want the world to feel bigger, how about you add things for people to do in the old content? Adding a pet to a raid doesn’t count.

interesting point. i was going to mention the various quests that say “take portal to XXX. talk to YYY” but then i realised that those quests actually say “Take portal to XXX (Optional). Talk to YYY.”

neither do they from the look of things.

my time runs out in 1 month. i will not be adding to it. i’ve been reading my stack of White Dwarf magazines while waiting for the flight point to land and i’m liking the Genestealer Cult reboot. sure it’ll cost me 3X what i’m paying for WoW, but unlike WoW, i can play Warhammer 40,000 when my power’s out, the internet is down, or the realms i play on are off line for maintenance.
plus Games Workshop won’t tell me i’m not taking long enough rolling my dice or that I have to buy Skaven to play Ultramarines.

It was the astronomical number of subs they lost in the 19 days between, “No more flying ever” and “Ooops, we had no idea people loved flying enough to quit”, even though they’d been losing almost a million subs per month.

However, the Real ID debacle was definitely stopped by the conflagration on the forums.

Losing a million subs per month eventually wow is going to bleed to death.

Yikes, another case of Blizzard taking a stance on a bad decision and refusing to admit they are wrong (again). Completely tone deaf and no wonder many continue devs/cms as just clueless about what few things people still enjoy about this game.
There are better solutions than just removing old content portals… leaving them alone is the easiest.

If I want to fly around and reminisce, I’ll fly around and reminisce. I don’t need Blizzard to tell me to do that, and I’m not playing WoW because I want a flight path simulator. I go back and do old content, such as Karazahn and the Caverns of Time, all the time, and when I do, I want to get where I’m going and do the thing I went there to do, not wait ten minutes just to get there in the first place. I like having portals everywhere because it means I can spend more time doing the things I WANT to do and less time traveling. I tend to go AFK when in flight because sitting around on a wyvern unable to act is wasting my time.

Speaking of wasting my time, why is there no portal to Thunder Bluff or Ironforge? And why does the Pandaria portal go to the Jade Forest instead of the shrines? And why does the Broken Isles portal go to Azsuna instead of Dalaran? The portal rooms could lead to the major hubs for those expansions instead of making us waste time flying to them. It would be one thing if those portal destinations were at least central to their respective continents, but they’re not.

I feel like Blizzard needs someone to explain to them that the best metric for a game’s success is not “time played”. Making everything take longer for no good reason and forcing us to sit around doing nothing in order to get to do what we were planning to do does not make the game more fun. It makes it more tedious, which is the opposite of fun.

At least most of my characters are engineers… or are those teleports next on the chopping block?

I wouldn’t be surprised if personal teleports are next on their chopping blocks.
With this nonsense what is stopping them from saying well Legions over, you no longer need that Dalaran Hearthstone, or that Black Temple necklace doesn’t need to teleport you to Outland anymore.

If the “health of the game” actually got more healthy, maybe you’d have a point. But with so many having left for other changes in the name of “the health of the game”, wouldn’t the game actually have more players now instead of fewer? This change will likely force even more out the door.

That would be the day I would quit and say wow is dead if they got rid of hearth stones and other teleportation items.
