You use your guild cloak to the main city, then run to the portal room. Hit the expansion you need, Whistle to a flight path and then fly to the nearest point where your going. Using a combination of abilities/toys/heirlooms I have earned and purchased over time to enhance my account makes me feel rewarded for long time play without shrinking the world so much.

I wish I could feel as rewarded as you by a system that replaces one loading screen with three of them. I never understood masochism.
