Because a lot of us are here because we pretty much lost any faith in that particular dev team, and we understand that even if they wanted to bring the retail game back to a more “RPGish” feel, the suits only in the business to milk the casuals through micro-transactions (store mounts etc) would block it as it would alienate that particular playerbase.
With Classic+ we have a chance at Blizzard supporting a more niche product (who’s still tolerated by said suits as it doubles down as a massive publicity stunt due to the sheer amount of earned media it carries) that fills the huge void in the industry for a slower, more rpg-centric experience.
I agree. I do not want to play classic plus. Give me TBC. If you want new content, push blizz to make modern wow actually good.

They could already do it now. A megaserver would just be a server with fewer limitations on layering. They’d also have to make changes to accommodate world bosses, but since the megaservers would be labeled classic+ servers that were separate from regular classic servers and be a place where some changes were welcome, that would be fine.
The only technical hurdle might be having one client with servers running different versions, but I don’t think it would be that big of a hurdle.
So, you want to turn Classic into not classic on new servers.
Just add the classic map to retail. Then you can play classic+.
This is one interruption of what you are saying can be done. Play TBC as a different version that is not TBC.
I mean, you’d have a dramatically different game in many other ways including class design and professions so not really.
And making TBC classic+is no different. Feral would not be an amazing of tank. Discipline priest would not have such amazing pull prep. The new talents would be missing. Flight would be missing. New enchants would be missing. Inscription would be missing. Jewel making would be missing.
There is a lot that TBC added. The more you add in, the more it is TBC and the less current classic.
Just add TBC and let those who enjoyed it, enjoy it.

A lot of us just like what classic is and would like to see it expended on. If they want to keep a few "pristine’ servers for the straight purists (even tho i find that whole idea a bit silly considering we’re playing on 1.12 and not 1.1), i wouldn’t be against it, so what would you have to lose?
No. Retail is broken in too many places to be fixed. The genie is out of the bottle. There is no way to take away things from people without retail players throwing a collector fit. How would they react with the elimination of flying, LFD/LFR, multiple raid difficulties, WoW tokens, paid faction/race changes, welfare epics, catch up gear, portals, etc. If you think these can be removed from retail among other things, then ok…let’s talk. But it’s jot realistic. So retail is a lost cause. It’s so far away from Classic that it’s easier to just start front Classic and build more content in the same vein and philosophy than try to repair the sink ship of retail.
This will never happen. Horizontal “Progression” is not a real thing and it will never be attempted because it is ridiculous and nonsensical.
Retail needs a complete reboot to fix it. World of Warcraft 2. But the main issue is that it will be created by Activision Blizzard instead of Blizzard, so it won’t be the same quality.
