Stealth questions

How does stealth levels work and how important is extra levels in the context of who spots who first? Cat form versus rogue, who wins? Horde vs Alliance rogue? Awhile back I fought this rogue who could always get the jump on me. Later on he told me I never had a chance because rogues have talents for stealth. Lets lay this out…

Rogue:
-Master of Subtlety 5/5 Reduces chance that enemy’s will detect you.
-Heightened Senses 2/2 increases your stealth detection
Druid:
-Feral instinct: 5/5 Reduces the chance enemies will detect you while prowling

Both:
-Catseye Elixir… Slightly increases your stealth detection
-Catseye Ultra Goggles… Moderately Improves stealth detection
-Bloodvine Lens…Slightly improves stealth detection
-Nightscape, Darkmantle, whisperwalk…ect ect boots Increases your stealth level
-Enchant Cloak Stealth
-Night elf Shadowmeld, Druid and rogue nightelfs have improved stealth

I guess my question is… at what point do these optional talents and items make a massive difference? As a druid should I simply break stealth and sit in bear form or look for him? Is shadowmeld stealth like getting extra cheese on your pizza; is the improved stealth even worth noticing?

higher level rogues can spot other invisible rogues if they are like 3 or so levels below them, otherwise you both have to be right next to each other to spot each other

so like is each level say a yard of detection?

I seem to recall being able to use feral faerie fire (say that ten times fast) to keep the rogue visible and then beating most rogues as long as I stopped them from getting their ideal stealth openers that way.

But it has been 14 years, so maybe I am forgetting something.

I haven’t pvpd much since Vanilla so I don’t think I have the best advice for you but…

  1. Don’t just rely on sight stealth can be heard and it’s intensity or loudness can tell you where they are and or how far away they are.

  2. Certain things like some shouts, swipes, roars etc can automatically break the stealth of a potential enemy.

  3. Don’t get all caught up in stat analysis paralysis, be ready defensively and practice / learn how to react, this goes the same for offensive. Being calm and knowing before hand what / how to react is far more important.

well since pounce and ravage require you to be behind the target… faerie fire might be the safest opener. Rather than being greedy trying to get behind him the moment I spot him.

how i ask without saying anything is all in the hips

I wonder if it matters in PvE if I have Cat stealth ranks. I’d assume it does and mobs will notice me trying to get the upper hand if I’m running around in rank 1.

oh they will notice you

its inevitable now. the universe has now

Crud. And here I was looking to save money

don’t tip the waiter quite yet

Not that private servers are perfect but I barely managed to stealth run BRD to the seven room to solo the event for my hammer. As many times as I was detected… had I not been a nightelf I think it would have been worse.

Is this a duel? Go bear and use demoralizing roar when ya hear him. FFF him once visible. Bear armor/health should get ya a little more time than say cat.

Don’t shift bear until the duel starts, use enrage to keep your rage building and search for him.

I don’t know the exact numbers… but the bonus stealth level detection is significant… it’s the difference of someone seeing you 15 yards away, and 3 yards away.

Night elf racial for this is underrated.

There was a really good youtube video on it awhile ago…

Is night elf racial more than one stealth level? Also can anyone confirm if perception breaks stealth?

It’s one stealth level.

To my knowledge, no it doesn’t break stealth…

It’s quite strong, in other expansions it was the must have racial for arenas.

Perception is nice but only if you already know the rogue is there such as an arena. If I’m stealth and a human rogue jumps, dismounts, and goes stealth… you better believe I’m unstealthing, poping dash and running for my life for at least 20 seconds…

It was the default racial for 2 expansions… and why a lot of the best pvpers went alliance.

One level doesn’t seem all that powerful though
