I wanna join a PvP server using spy, just so I can make a yell macro that says” Hello there, I’m ready for you.”
In order to do this:
The API call COMBAT_LOG_EVENT_UNFILTERED returns the following parameters:
- timestamp
- event
- hideCaster
- sourceGUID
- sourceName
- sourceFlags
- sourceRaidFlags
- destGUID
- destName
- destFlags
- destRaidFlags
That single API call grants you all of this information. You can research what each of these points to, what prefixes and suffixes you can add to filter more, etc, but the single command is this. Blizzard breaks addons by blocking access to the API. There isn’t an individual API call to just get the identify of someone that is separate from getting the spell name of something someone cast, it is all baked together.
What you want is for specific events to not be reportable by an addon, but the API isn’t structured to do that whatsoever. What you’re actually asking for, under the current structure, is for the Combat Log to be unable to “see” anything happening that an enemy player does when not in combat with you. That requires a reworking of the Combat Log to add additional parameters to accomplish.
If you want anymore coding information, research it yourself, but put very simply: what you want is something Blizzard cannot give you.

I imagine there are people who’re experienced enough in writing code that it shouldn’t be too hard for them. That’s not me, but some people make careers doing it.

There is no way I would ever understand that. So the add on automates translation and parses what it wants from the code. Not sure this should be a thing at all. Its got to go.

this is my classic main on a rp pvp server i just don’t want to level as someone else found out ^.^ 39 is plenty high enough to enjoy the pleasures of stv.
was not calling him on his level it was using it so he could tell that i was talking how spy would see him just like it would see a rogue, stop trying to read into things.
it was heck there used to be guides on how to set it up it was quite well known.

cute taking it out of context which was even when spy was not used you dont catch them unaware which is what the anti spy people would like everyone to think.

it simply looks for pre determined phrases if you will.

It works how all log addons work, which is nearly all of them, only looking at what is relevant to them, otherwise the addons would make the game run like you were running an auction analyzer or something, meaning really crappy.
That, what i posted, is what the game actually outputs, outside the game even, fully available to analyze in realtime using external tools.
The main point though was, as you can see, the bystander knows a whole heck of a lot, i went to cat, i went to stealth, i dropped stealth, some unseen guy in the vicinity had used a bandage at some point
and was fighting with some mob etc.
The log was a lot longer, i just clipped a small piece of it

I know we have been at odds, but I really do think you are intelligent and can discuss things properly. This is an intelligent post. Thank you. I still think and you might agree or disagree, the translation from the code to the easy text to read is not really in spirit of classic. It does break some skills of some classes.
All addons basically take something not easily decipherable by the average joe, and present it in an easy to consume package.
That is what Blizzard made the API for.
As for Spy, i dont agree or disagree.
For some, for them it breaks their class.
For others (meaning rogues or druids or NELFS in general) they use it against the spy users by triggering stealth warnings all over the place inciting either sudden panic, or causing people to start ignoring the spammed warning.

This addon is actually only useful in an, out in the world PvP setting in most cases. It would be next to useless in a BG or mass PvP fight like SS&TM. There’d simply be too much to look at.
The lone warrior mining a node, or mage innocently fishing, these are the players that need Spy. Not to stop that cowardly rogue or dastardly druid from attacking them, but to alert them to their danger, so that instead of murder there’s a more even fight.
If you can’t fight someone who’s ready for a fight and all you can do is be a disgusting bully then maybe it’s time for Spy to help people stand up to you and teach you a lesson. From the looks of a lot of these posts I’d say the teaching has started… GOD bless Spy.

No, it will be just as gamebreaking for stealthies in PvP as well.
Picture a match in Arathi Basin, and a rogue goes up to try to take a node. Well, the enemy sees them coming and knows their exact coordinates. Good premades will have everyone using Spy so they can triangulate the locations.
Same thing if you’re a rogue defending a node.
How about in Warsong gulch? Say you’re a rogue who wants to sneak in and grab the enemy flag. Guess what, they all know you’re coming the moment you stealth.
It will actually be more gamebreaking for stealth in battlegrounds as it is in world PvP.
