So I’m finally at a level where I don’t think I’ll be dragging a group down if I tank.
I haven’t done any tanking in M+ but I’m going into M0 to polish off some odd slots and grab weapons for off-spec as needed. My questions are:
- What bosses should I treat differently in Mythic compared to Heroic?
- I havo no idea what trinkets I should be targeting or what criteria I should be using to identify decent trinkets.
- What instanes present specific difficulties for prot Warriors and what are those instances/specific example? How do you deal with them?
Thanks, if you have any general advice to share about getting into M0-M5s I’d appreciate it.
This one is pretty easy.
General trinkets would be Jes’ Howler out of TD and Rezans Gleaming Eye out of AD.
I found lingering sporepods from UR to have decent value for some spicy healing procs.
Honorable mention for the world boss 400 trinket which syncs pretty well with avatar, but offers a little less defensive value.

My #1 advice would be to not over think it. Mythic 0 drops 370 and you waited till 372 to feel comfortable tanking it???
I remember my first mythic of the expansion was kings rest. I was healing on my druid at 305 and the tank was a warrior at 302. It wasnt the easiest run but definately doable.
That said you gotta be confident. Use avatar and demo shout on damn near every pull at the pull. Always get SB up as soon into the pull as possible. And dont hold onto your other defensives. A lot of tanks hold onto stuff like shield wall for when it hits the fan and then it never does and it never gets used. Use all of your defensives liberally.
Pulls that are going to hurt are pretty much anything with magic damage or CC that doesnt get interrupted. Anything that makes a bunch of swirlies on the ground is a large threat to warrior. Anything that makes you not be able to block dodge or parry is a large threat to warrior.
If you are facing a mob that does large magic damage or CCs you it is a threat. Luckily most.of that can and should be interrupted. Shrine is probably the best example of boatloads of magic damage that can hurt. Use spell reflect liberally.
Most of all… be confident. You dont have to smash every pull without losing any health to be a good tank. You just have to know how to pace a run while negating enough incoming damage that your healer can keep you up through it. The spookiest thing as a healer or dps in a run is when you can tell the tank is nervous. Runs dont have to be perfect to be successful. Just set a good pace and give your healer stuff to heal. 1 pack at a time while being at ilvl for the dungeon is probably going to bore people. Be bold.
