Level now to be prepared for Cata, one of the greatest expansions in Classic. You got plenty of time to level and get some gear. However, don’t expect to clear ICC on the highest difficulty as fast and easily as you can do in SoD; use it a as a playground for Cata.
I just started a toon a week ago, I was on SoD and I haven’t played any iteration of wow for many years. I’m enjoying my time questing and leveling playing a class I never have before in anticipation for cataclysm. I would say for sure go to it. I joined Benediction to be on a full server. Alliance for benediction for more people to interact with. Having a lot of fun.

Something too many people seem to forget the entire point of gaming IS.

WotLK Classic still makes for a very good, slow-paced leveling adventure.
I’d say it’s downright hopeless to level up, gear up, and raid fully through WotLK at this stage as a new player, but if you were to take the next 2-3 months and casually level, join parties, explore the world, do the odd quests nobody ever does anymore, and grind out professions, it’d be a fun time and this is the last chance to do it before Cata comes out.
