Star Wars the Old Republic

I found both Jedi storylines to be lacking, I think the smuggler and bounty hunter stories were the only two I found enjoyable.

To play the main game’s story, I thought they made the game free to play? But once you find that energy, play Imperial Agent… 10/10.

Several reasons, most of them stemming from the devs trying to fix things that weren’t broken.

  • Gearing is now just buying items from a vendor or getting them as drops from Flashpoints, then farming dailies for materials to upgrade them at about 2 levels at a time
  • They effectively gutted professions and got rid of moddable gear at higher levels; Artifices, Armstechs, Armormechs, and Cybertechs can’t even make mods for armor and weapons anymore, so you can’t use moddable weapons at 76+ until they make weapons available in the outfitter like they should’ve been years ago
  • The UI was given an overhaul that looks infinitely worse and less Star Wars-like, class–sorry, ā€œOrigin Storyā€ icons have been replaced with minimalist images that look like they would be placeholders during the game’s alpha or pre-alpha
  • The entire expansion is roughly only two hours long; there’s like one ā€œnewā€ planet that’s just a newer version of a planet that you already went to in Shadow of Revan and one new Flashpoint, so they had to release the second rewards pass along with the expansion launch to pad things out
  • Said Flashpoint was bugged to hell on release, the final boss was impossible to beat without using an exploit because two of his attacks would cause you to fall through the map, instantly resetting the fight, and the ending of the expansion has the same vagueness for what’s to come that’s tainting current WoW writing

I’ve been playing SWTOR on and off since it first went free-to-play, and the travesty that was 7.0 unironically made me more excited for WoW 9.2, that’s how bad it was.

I’ve played it since beta. I’ve more or less given up on the game since Onslaught, though.

I was mainly playing for RP, but I don’t have the time to lead my RP guild anymore, so that died.

The content pace is glacial and honestly embarrassing. It’s a mediocre MMO that I love because of nostalgia but that has no place even trying to compete with the others on the market.

(Also, story wise, it’s not even that good these days. The plot’s about as nonsensical and pointless as SL ever since Knights of the Eternal Throne.)

You can’t honestly sit there and say that qn EA issue.

Bioware has endless history now of dog****ing and failing over and over and over and over to make decisions, then flip flopping on them, then not actually trying to ever meet a deadline. Then when enough is enough and they won’t get any more money to waste, they release a partially finished product full of bugs that isn’t anywhere near what it was supposed to be.

And while SWTOR was really one of the first shows of this new failure (ME3 the other really) they have continued to do the same thing over and over and over and need a top down restructuring.

But the endless EA DID IT!!! When bioware products have had the same issues time after time after time is fairly disingenuous. Even as chit as ea is you can’t dump that on them.

The only fault I’d give EA is picking BioWare to develop an MMO.

It is basically a single player mmo. They made most of the game to where you can either group or solo. Obviously ā€œraidsā€ and ā€œdungeonsā€ you need to group, although I don’t know if dungeons are solo mode now too. I will play every do often to do the stories (which can be all done solo) and have seen people around. It is still fun imo but the content is so quick and easy to complete.

You will want to sub though because their f2p model, imo, is one of the worst out there. You credits cap is a joke if you aren’t subbed along with all the basic mmo stuff you would expect you can’t have/do unless you sub or pay for it. Like doing dungeons/raids you have to buy a week pass to be able to do them unless you are subbed. Unless they finally changed that but that is how it was when I last played without subbing.

But yeah. Overall it is fun to just do the stories etc. I still like the game but just not something I want to put in a lot of time in anymore. They did launch a new expansion so that is some new content at least.

I was playing it a lot from beta/day 1 of launch up till they stopped content to get ready to switch to f2p and I never understood the complaints during that time causing people to leave. It by far has the best and most fun leveling system because of the individual class stories (Vanilla anyways). The flashpoints and operations were awesome. I didn’t come across many game breaking issues like people kept saying pre-f2p. They had the best battleground map in Hutt Ball.

I honestly don’t remember the criticism people had in the beginning. Not saying anyone was wrong for it but I just don’t remember it. I didn’t really check the forums then so maybe that’s why but I had an amazing experience up till they decided to go f2p and then I left right after.

I think the biggest complaint around launch was just that there wasn’t enough end game content. I don’t remember many complaints beyond that.

Same here. I was perfectly happy in my corner of the universe until they did that dumpster fire they call an xpac.

I’d encourage you OP to check out the SWTOR discord, it’s an unofficial discord but roughly 30K members, people are constantly posting screenshots of their characters, or discussing the game / latest expansion, and there’s guilds recruiting constantly there too so you can watch for one that might fit your play style, but it could be a good way to more or less inquire about the game / get started if you were interested.

Cause I’m not entirely sure what help the WoW forums would be for this question but best of luck to you

What killed any urge to play the game eventho i loved it was when it went F2P once that happened it was flooded with idiot players and mivrotransactions

I think I was the only person on my server who bought the mount that was only available for purchase for like 2 million credits (a large amount back then) in the very first patch (a blue-and-yellow spacecar thingie). I was very proud of having grabbed it before it was removed for no apparent reason. I think they added a version of it back in to the cash shop but I always liked showing off my OG ā€˜I played this game too much at launch’ mount.

Will always love this game; I met some of my longtime friends here and the PVP and RP scene on Lord Adraas at launch was like nothing else. I go back every once in a while but I heard the latest release was a disaster, so I’m not sure how well it’s going to do down the stretch. The two expansions post-Disney acquisition of the Star Wars property where they just said ā€˜screw it, we’re just going wild writing our own stuff’ were great, maybe the last great thing the game will do.

Take how disappointing WoW is now.

Multiply that by 100.

BioWare dropped the ball hard last expansion, which was a total of 2 hours long (complete joke) and ended with a buggy fight against Darth Malgus half the player base (all 12 of us) couldn’t get past. It took them over a month to fix a game breaking bug that kept players from finishing the freaking story.

They focused hard core on a UI change that no one asked for, that was hideous and somehow worse than the UI they already had.

They made gearing worse, the end game is bad. I mean, the raids are fun but there’s not much else to do. Only reason I bother is that for some reason half my WoW guild went there.

SWTOR is the sad decline of the once brilliant BioWare.

WoW despite its flaws is still a better game.

I was fairly happy with the state of the game until 7.0 hit. Like good lord it was bad.

There was a bug where people couldn’t load the server list and log in if they had certain processors, and they couldn’t fix it for multiple weeks.

They had the fix, they just made people wait until 7.0.1 lmao

And for christ sake, the Sith Emperor better be dead and Revan better be dead. I’m sick of everything being about these two twerps.

I used to like Revan but now he’s just over used. And having to kill the Sith Emperor 3 times (four times on a Jedi Knight) got old real fast.

I’m allowing it… for now. Tread lightly and keep it civil folks.

yea im going to play swtor since wow has nothing for the next year for casuals im unsubbed from wow and playing other mmos.

swtor doesnt lock you out of dungeons from an io score, double leggos and tier sets and swtor pvp is pretty good.

I still play from time to time. Nothing intense, mostly the story and a few of the dungeons.
