Stand behind every Edition

ppl been playing on this server for over a year, Blizz jsut hinting that updates might stop.

they might not say it’s shutting down, but let’s be real, everyone knows no updates means it’s already been sentenced.

in-game prices are getting chaotic, materials are insanely expensive.

every day, someone’s yelling “It’s dead!” but also soon no one will shout anymore…

   :sob: :sob: :sob: All your characters feel like they’re on a countdown to die.

yeah, sod just a small group of players.

but this isn’t a PTR right? No matter what you call it, it’s a server that’s been running and updating for more than a year.

look at how amazing all the Easter eggs in SoD and the newly released SE raid is.

ppl was finally getting good, just about to bring some friends in.

things were finally getting better, and now it’s already ending? like the Warcraft movie, it’s been almost ten years, ppl said wont have a sequel.

because it’s not profitable enough? but who says it can’t do it

sod’s biggest problem for me is lack of any real commitment.

from day one, ppl have been saying “It’s gonna end soon” that made a lot of players hesitant to invest.

the most important thing for any game developer is to take responsibility for their users.

Stand behind every edition and every player who’s invested time and energy.

Trust shouldn’t fade.

even if you launch a new SoD or another edition in the future… who would still dare to play? XD

yeah, I’m hinting atya 2! :smirk::smirk::smirk:

A big problem seems to be the general lack of communication regarding what the plan is for servers long-term.

Where is the classic timeline ending up? Who knows…

Will MoP-classic simply phase into warlords of draenor? Who knows…

Will anniversary TBC end in an Era, or phase into WOTLK? Who knows…

Is some other version of classic+ already being worked on? Who knows…

Is season of discovery a permanent era now, or are they ending it? Who knows…

They intentionally keep all these plans ambiguous, despite that internally they have answers/plans for much of these questions.
Then they wonder why the classic community has a difficult time committing to a particular version.

There is no rational way for a player to plan where to invest their playtime with this utter lack of communication.

I get that they’re just trying to herd everyone along to the next temporary item shop but it shouldn’t have to be this way.

They’re basically manufacturing dead servers on purpose via negligence and abdication.

We could have healthy thriving communities on select servers without these doomsday “sky is falling” rug pulls again and again but Blizz has demonstrated that isn’t what they want to deliver.

Player experience suffers so they can squeeze a little extra wow token sales. It’s just sad.

That’s pretty well summed up, I think.

I get that the devs probably are probably limited in some capacity in what they’re even able to day, but yeah, it kinda sucks never really knowing what’s going on or where to invest your time. I got REALLY into SoD, and started working up tradeskills across multiple characters, really trying to go for a “completionist” mindset, including the MANY enchanting formulas. That all just feels like a huge amount of wasted time, when apparently I should have been spending that time on other versions of the game.

I know Blizzard is also probably hesitant to elaborate because it could step on the toes of any future plans, and also that I’m sure a lot of their plans may fluctuate and so they don’t want to say anything they have to commit to. I mean, if they were to even say something like “Don’t worry, some things may change but we’ll make sure there’s some way to convert your SoD characters over to Classic+”, well, that would probably cause friction with the marketing team who would be looking to make a big “announcement” for however Classic+ is going to be handled.

Thing is, considering the hundreds of hours we invest in this game, I do feel like we should be kept a little more in the loop than we currently are.

For my part, it feels like they’ve already kinda-sorta “announced” some kind of Classic+ style project, but if our characters are just stuck in the current state, and the shiny new thing winds up being an entirely separate thing where none of our time or effort in SoD amounts to anything… well, that would just be kind of a big ol’ bummer, imo.

I know they wouldn’t want to launch a “new” game mode with a bunch of maxed-out, BiS characters running around from the very start, but my personal take was that maybe they could start out with “fresh” servers until Classic+ gets all the way through SoD’s content (or whatever the nearest equivalent is), and then allow players from both versions to merge together. That way, SoD’s existing characters don’t upset the balance of the game, but still honoring our time spent playing (even if the “merging” process means throwing up a disclaimer to players that not all of SoD’s systems, abilities, set-bonuses, or item stats will translate over).

But regardless, I agree, communication of any kind is always helpful. For most of SoD’s existence, I didn’t really understand what it was trying to be, and so I didn’t feel comfortable spending time with it early on. Who wants to spend hundreds of hours investing in a character(s) who could potentially be deleted? Having more clear communication upfront probably would go a long ways towards assuaging players’ fears. With SoD activity seemingly dropping off so quickly (at least, that’s what I feel like I’m personally seeing on Wild Growth), there are a whole lot more fears that are filling the vacuum of any concrete answers on what the future looks like.

It’s partially all our own fault. The Anniversary and Progression server Andies need to bend the knee and join C+, but Blizzard has to play this game where they string them along and milk them to keep them subbed until they’re primed to finally accept that C+ is the way.

There are all these conspiracy theories about how the Classic community is being psy-op’d into accepting GDKPs and accepting WoW token and you know what I say? Good. We need to cast out the P-Server Andies and NoChanges folk and get the people who want a version of WoW that isn’t as convoluted as Retail together to have a community.

These characters journey is done. Whatever comes next will be its own thing.

SoD’s biggest problem is the players. How in the world do you justifying spending months on creating new content when people will start crying 4 days in because they can’t kill the second boss. And this is WITH DBM. Creating new content at that pace isn’t sustainable. Not only that, the same players you can’t bleed money from them because they don’t like tokens, or in game purchases, etc.

Yeah. Not happening.
