The power slide onto Frostmourne was unironically the best addition to the lore
The absurdity of it conjures an image in my mind.
What if her abs were so stronk, that they shattered Frostmourne? And she just laughed as Arthas was staring at the hilt like “wtf?!?”
That would have been funny but probably not well received.
Maybe in AU Azeroth.
Speaking of absurdity… what did she expect a single arrow to do against the Jailer? I guess it was just a rude way of getting his attention? She couldn’t have thought it would have done much.
If today’s writing team was in charge back then
The terrible writing in BFA and Shadowlands is the true End Time. Murozond tried to warn us and we refused to listen.
It is honestly funny that Zovaal is being compared to Thanos. I mean once Thanos got 2 infinity stones he left his armor behind. As no “mortal” has ever wielded 2 infinity stones beforehand in the MCU. Zovaal upon getting his sigil back? GIVE ME ALL THE ARMOR IN THE WORLD!!!
If you are so powerful, why do you even need armor?
Blizzards writing motto: Steal from Popular Culture but do the exact opposite to “subvert expectations”
I think it was more about sending an indignant message. Zovaal is the source of all of her power, quite literally, so I don’t think she expected to actually harm him.
Giving the writers too much credit.
Yeah the Jailer’s design is cool.
He just broke the rules of what not to do as a Super Villian. If you can just kill the heroes, just kill the heroes. Thrall, Jaina, Bolvar, and Sylvanas don’t live because they did something heroic, they live because Jailer got arrogant. It’s classical, it’s what a villain usually does, but c’mon lol
Oh well, his raid fight will be fun.
I thought this post on reddit was a pretty good analysis of Sylvanas’ story so far:
I would have liked more in a funny easter egg like Connan or the goblin that fears an insect from Tanaris like Starship trooper, or Harrison Jones in Uldum.
But here they are taking it seriously, and believe me it is ridiculous and nonsensical and to top it off, make the same mistake again in BfA.
hmmm… classic forum story, Sylvanas is not to blame that she was forced like Banshee, that she wanted to take responsibility for her actions, blah, blah, blah …
But within Warcraft 3, there is the problem with him that they would judge him worse by the return of the other part of his soul.
Her arrogance, the fact that she had not helped at the exact moment that she was being devastated by the forces of Arthas, who I thought was the necromancer as simple Orc necrolites from Warcraft 1 with flimsy skeletons, pss … Undead rush please …
Throughout the campaign you see how she sweeps him and what a surprise she gives them as Crypt Fiends or Gargoyles, and that it did not get worse like the abominations that she shows in WoW.
That’s why heh … Blizzard will force other characters to forgive them maybe, but nevertheless it is not convenient to continue using Sylvanas after seeing her for 3 expansions in which it overshadows everything that is Azeroth and the game itself, it is only Sylvanas and the Jailer, the expansion started well and differently with a villain who was only Sire Denathrius, this 2 appears and the game is sinisterly summarized in which all content seen for more than 25 years disappears.
And we will get to see his natural Blue-Black Death Energies(which he used in the cinematic) instead of the Rainbow-Black Death Energies he used before.
We’ve seen Green Death Energies(Maldraxxus), Red Death Energies(Revendreth), Whitish-Aqua Death Energies(Bastion), Aqua & Pink Death Energies(Ardenweald), Indigo Death Energies(Devourers), Whitish Gold Death Energies(Brokers), Purple Death Energies(Mueh’zala), Violet-Black Death Energies(Sylvanas), Rainbow-Black Death Energies(Mawsworn), Aqua-Black Death Energies(Drust) but not Blue-Black Death Energies so things will get interesting!
I can understand that a lot of Shadowlands relies on revealing that Sylvanas isn’t as cunning as she’s often portrayed. A lot of her decisions were centered around that her family, kingdom, and life itself turned its back on her and her people. When Vareesa turned her back on her; it dug an irreparable wound in her only further cemented by the aggression she faced when meeting Alleria.
Sylvanas craves connections that she is envious to the point of spite of. When she saw the forsaken actually find solace and solidarity; she HATED that others got the love she wished for. The Jailer is a means for Sylvanas to feel like she made a choice that isn’t driven by emotion or desire. An idealized free will if you would.
Problem is… a lot of this content is not found in the game. It is portrayed poorly with our brisk interactions in Sylvanas’s story. Too much is placed out of the game to grasp the full narrative. She is losing the connection she had that drew players before to her. 9.1 cemented the major disconnect in the storytelling they want to make here. Sylvanas has been to prominent a character who’s motives are NEVER explored enough. We’re chasing a fickle idea that Blizzard wants us to take seriously.
The Jailer’s entire story or existence is overshadowed by Sylvanas. She steals all the spotlight for this “new big bad” we’re dealing with. We should be taking the time to refine and flesh out the Jailer. But instead; we’re exposed to emo goth girl with family issues every corner of this story. Who are we truly supposed to be against? Why are we still drawing blanks to EVERYTHING!?
What’s funny is, if they go full Thanos and Marvel Infinity war on the plot, The Jailer himself will use some kind of time magic or something to ensure that the events of SL never even happened… effectively stopping himself from ever breaking free… or something.
